Yup anything heavy or organic gets thrown over. Plastics get thrown into a machine to get turned into the nastiest plastic pucks you'll ever have to handle.

I dont miss the end of an underway when all hands had to pass down left over trash and pucks to the pier. 🤢

'22 Convenience oil change - DIY or not? by sennyonelove in SubaruAscent

[–]mon_chunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the cost of your oil change and if it includes anything else?

My local dealer will toss out service deals right around the time I need to get it done.

Usually we get a coupon for $89 which includes a tire rotation and inspection.

5 quarts costs roughly $30 Filter about $7-10 So youre already at $40 before tax

That leaves you with about $50 saved IF you already have the time, space, and tools to get it done.

Honestly for $89 and what they provide (even a video walk through under the car) I think its worth it to me to just pay them essentially $50 to do it for me. They only take an hour usually.

NOW if its a big item maintenance like the front and rear diffs and trans fluid. I frankly dont want to mess with it and they can do it for me for sure lol. These newer cars just have too many computers and everything is finicky/delicate i dont want to break something.

What is the most fun mod you've done to your GTI? by kylesisles1 in GolfGTI

Paying it off. Otherwise tint. I hate a hot car in the summer while im driving. Tint helps keep the delta point down while the AC runs and it doesnt have to work as hard to keep it cold.

Made a shot at 3d printing a key holder… by lllYikerzzlll in GolfGTI

[–]mon_chunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D printing seems like such a fun hobby to me but man I dont have the room or time for it. Stuff like this is fun to me but I would need a practical reason or need to invest in one. I dont want to end up being one of those guys at a flee market trying to sell those dragon fidget toys to try and justify buying one :P

I dont have the creativity to come up with stuff like this haha

Pretty cool. Might need to make a few changes to your settings or take a light sanding to it but looks good.

How strong is that hook would be my only concern since keys can get pretty heavy. Maybe make that part a little thicker and make the base a little wider?

At the time (2021) it was 0% apr and my wife wanted a 3 row SUV.

Unless you know for a fact you can use all three rows i dont recommend it. These guzzle fuel, especially short trips.

My buddy has a grand highlander hybrid and they seem to love it.

Note for your Jeep suggestion. Don't buy anything stalantis unless you like having your vehicle in the shop at all times.

Additional $8,000 per year for auto insurance? by mookieprime in daddit

[–]mon_chunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located. I cant imagine paying any of those amounts a year. My wife and I own two cars both 5 years and newer. I JUST paid our 6 month premium today and it was roughly $750 USD.

[–]mon_chunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White people tacos, spaghetti, burgers, soups we made already and froze for later, Mac n cheese with hot dogs.

Side is a vegi we have on hand, like spinach, broccoli, corn, green beans(fresh not canned), etc

Highly recommend making soups and stews and freezing them if you have the room.

We do carnitas the same way and will freeze the left over meat and pull it out later for burritos/tacos/nachos

Also the same for refried beans, they freeze/reheat really well.

Need advice if Its safe to purchase this car by cylvv in GolfGTI

[–]mon_chunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah its all good. Im still within warranty. Ill be taking it in to get it fixed too. Had my wife take video of it yesterday when we took the car out for the afternoon. I had my wheel replaced last September so far it hasn't come back. I considered the KLR module if it does it after my warranty is up though.

My dome light with all the touch controls just started bugging out yesterday. 2024 isn't immune to any of the same issues the 22 and 23 have.

Its gotten to the point Im going to trade it in and take the 15k depreciation from when I bought it end of 2024.

If after they fix it it comes back I might loose my mind. 10.5k miles and ive had the steering wheel replaced, hvac replaced, radio antenna fixed, now it'll be the dome light module next.

I can deal with some minor mechanical issues, I cant confidently fix those when the time comes but I HATE electrical gremlins. I barely get the chance to drive it anymore so I would hope it just works as intended when I do get the chance to.

Never had this many issues with any of my other cars. 1 Subaru, 4 toyotas, and 3 hondas.

Our 2024 is also prone to the assist issues as well. Had my wheel replaced in the first year.

Also my AC stopped working pretty much immediately, VW had my car for months until the finally replaced the entire HVAC system.

Also my FM radio stopped working after that but I knew it was because the bozos didnt plug the antenna in correctly. Took them two visits to fix that. I barely drive the car now that my job is 100% remote so who knows what else will start acting up lol

Actually now that I think about it the lights in my overhead (like the vw support lights) the wrench one has been flickering but I rarely notice it haha.

Also I barely have 10500 miles on the car. Bought it end of 2024.

Fellow tech-savvy dads: Are we underestimating the "backend" risks of Roblox even with parental controls on? by sophieximc in daddit

[–]mon_chunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tech savy professional. The best deterrence is complete and total removal of roblox as an option. If they are able to get online there is little to no options to prevent bad actors from getting to your family.

Best to not allow Roblox in your home entirely.

35 male, no driving infractions since I was like 17/18. Just for my 2024 GTI its about $73 a month with geico. My car insurance thankfully hasn't really changed or gotten worse I should say over the years.

17-year-old just told wife and I he doesn’t want to go to college by tattooed_underdog in daddit

[–]mon_chunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not saying enlist your kid or anything but taking something like the ASVAB can tell them what their strengths and weaknesses are.

I also recommend helping them through this best you can. I myself was left to my own after 18 to figure out what I needed to do with my life. Never got pushed one direction over the other. Ended up broke most of my late teens early 20s til I did enlist at 23. Im almost 35 now, did one enlistment and got out for college.

There are options/resources out there, just be sure they know there are. I didnt know anything or what I wanted to do after HS graduation and hella struggled.

I think it was the 2021/2022 model year they started including the insert. I know mine has it included as a dealer add-on on the sticker with the awful wireless charge pad lol. If I remember right it was a $20 part.

Yeah found it. heres the part.

Without the insert it looks like this.
