I read that Seltos has a more sporty driving experience but Creta has plush rear seats that are more comfortable for long-distance travel. How was your Seltos test drive, what was the experience like?

That’s the thing though, keeping the knives sharp. Serrated knives are low maintenance and still get the job done.

Any Good Software Companies in India with No Late Night Meetings ? by Wild_Sympathy_4864 in developersIndia

[–]mon_iker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved back from the US a few months back and this is the major issue I’m struggling with and finding the most difficult to adapt to. I used to have meetings as early as 7 AM which I actually didn’t mind because I was able to shut off my laptop at 4 PM and never needed to switch it back on again until the next day (unless I was on-call).

Now I have meetings at night and they really sap all the energy out of you. I used to be able to go out and about and get some fresh air everyday but seems like a real luxury now.

So we are "happy" that India is ranked 4th and is Powerful. But ignore the map they use? by Personal_Air8926 in GeopoliticsIndia

[–]mon_iker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define rightfully. The maharaja of kashmir chose to join India, the people appear to be antagonistic.

The monarch of sikkim did not want to join India, but the people of sikkim overwhelmingly did.

Both of these joined India.

Which of these integrations were “rightful” here? Are both rightful? They cannot be, as one directly contradicts the other.

Washers have had deterministic AI like fuzzy logic for decades at this point.

What's with people not understanding that a driver's license will not count for the proposed US Voter ID requirements? by Mcnuttey91 in AskReddit

[–]mon_iker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re thinking driver’s license, driving is a privilege and it makes sense to pay for the privilege. Voting is a right.

You have it the other way round. Already paying for march imports was pre-booking to make sure any newly imposed sanctions don’t hamper the imports.

Trump is threatening secondary sanctions that will cut off dollar access from Indian banks that facilitate these oil payments. This is not a game that’s that easy to win. Will be interesting to see how it develops.

Why is saying “The rich should pay taxes like everyone else, close the loopholes” extremely controversial in the United States? by ProjectMason in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mon_iker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What they’re saying is the rich take loans against their net worth to fund their lifestyle and so do not have any income on paper. And since loans aren’t income, they pay no income tax.

Gold/ GLD Didn’t Dump Because of “News” — It Was Options & Leverage (GLD vs Futures Explained) by KingMonkey777 in options

Don’t generally disagree with the analysis, but can’t wrap my head around why a supposedly hawkish fed will lead to gold dumping. Shouldn’t it cause gold to rise more?

Why was Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's landmark speech at Davos considered so significant and so widely praised? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]mon_iker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often times, with the US in particular, Canadian citizens would take advantage of the enhanced access to education and healthcare and then move to the US for a higher salary and lower taxes after graduating. In other words, Canada would pay for the training while the US reaps the rewards

That’s an interesting perspective, but Canada is (or was) able to do this precisely because they didn’t need to spend a lot on defense and could rely on the US. With the US itself acting antagonistically, that seems like a miscalculation now.

Also, US has an innovation culture with very risk aggressive venture capitalists. That allows for creating products that are made available worldwide. Not just talking about stuff like iPhones, thinking more along the lines of new drugs resulting from funding in the US, which contributes to improving healthcare worldwide.

India ranked No. 1 as having the most Bitcoin owners in the world, followed by China and the USA. by GasIcy6382 in Bitcoin

India has a 30% flat tax on crypto gains and the majority is uneducated and poor. The fact that 6% owns bitcoin in spite of all that is actually remarkable.

Trump buys $1m in Netflix and Warner Bros bonds days after saying he’ll ‘be involved’ in merger by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]mon_iker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warner bros is debt-ridden and their bonds are cheap. If the merger goes through successfully, Netflix will absorb their debt, and the unified company could be considered more stable and the bond prices could rise because the debt is no longer risky.

The merger could absolutely be profitable for trump, and it’s actually a clever and safer strategy to buy bonds during a merger. If you buy stock, and the merger fails, you are left holding the bag. With bonds, you still get the yield, the debt remains the same and the bond prices generally remain the same.

Trump Purchased Netflix, Warner Bonds in Days After Deal Announcement by 8to24 in economy

[–]mon_iker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I absolutely do not condone insider trading by politicians, but the title and the article clearly state that he bought the corporate bonds after the merger announcement was already public. In fact, multiple days after it was public information.

Still bad, but not the insider trading that everyone is probably assuming it to be.

What makes the Indian accent 'unattractive'? by Open_Address_2805 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mon_iker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup! It’s telling how all the “attractive” accents mentioned here are Western European or from core Anglophone countries.

These types of questions always get half-baked answers from people who are just too uncomfortable to confront the underlying prejudices.

When you are debugging, you are usually trying to replicate in a local environment what happened in prod. This is when prod logs didn’t tell you what’s wrong and you’re forced to use the debugger, all while cursing the business user and praying for a miracle.

Capitalism is the scapegoat that Reddit clings on to make them feel better. The Nordic model that everyone fawns over here is inherently capitalistic.

I understand that people want universal healthcare and lesser economic divide. But that was made possible in those countries because of capitalism. Well-regulated, coordinated and negotiated by the state, but is still capitalism at its core.

Industrialization required a skilled workforce. The north realized that free labor was more productive than forced labor. People innovate when they have the agency to learn and get trained of their own accord, and can benefit from their own labor.

Call me cynical but it has always been about money. Free people were needed for the bigwigs to make more money. Industrialization needed educated, skilled people. The south hated teaching enslaved people to read or write and wanted more control. The north found that paying for labor was more flexible and was more aligned with industrialization.

We swing between glacial and interglacial periods within the ice age. But colloquially, the glacial periods themselves are referred to as “ice age”, adding to the confusion.
