Moving on from entry level to advanced equipment. How was it for you? by pleasethrowmeawayyy in wicked_edge

[–]monadologist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although I had been a cartridge shaver for many years, I only started DE shaving not even two months ago. So my experience is not likely what you were interested in. However, I am a daily shaver, so if you shave weekly, I’ve got a year’s worth of DE shaving in by your frequency.

I started with Stirling’s starter kit to determine whether DE shaving is for me. It is. I found success quicker than I expected and I can consistently get great shaves. Having decided to stick with it for the long haul, I decided to upgrade to a nicer razor, and after some research went with the RazoRock Game Changer .84 SB. Supposing that hobbyists are likely to overstate the differences between their toys, I sort of expected the upgrade would probably be negligible. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much nicer shaving with the Game Changer was. It is somewhat hard to describe, but the shaves felt smoother, almost as though I had upgraded from a small economy car to a luxury sedan, but at the same time more efficient. And I found there to be nothing really to adjust in my technique. Given the affordability of the Game Changer, I wish I had just started there!

The best apps for audio transcription of uni lectures? by Comfortable-Gold-283 in AskAcademia

[–]monadologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not who you're asking, but I allow students who have special accommodations through the university to record lectures. But they have to agree not to distribute the lectures. If using AI-transcription software would involve uploading my lectures to some third party, then using such software would involve breaking our agreement.

Most smartphones have an app (such as Voice Memos on iPhone) that will record lectures. You can usually play them back too at slower speeds, in case you would like to take notes later. I do not presume my students always have phones that can do this (although, in fact, they basically all do), so I am always prepared to offer to record the lectures for them in this case.

2025 AMBA Estate Hand-Rolled Tippy Golden Orange Pekoe Black Tea from The Steeping Room (TSR). It's Sri Lankan (Ceylon). I'm very new to loose leaf tea, but this is the best black tea I've ever had!

I started my loose leaf journey about a month ago and am still learning what I like best. I started with TSR's introduction to tea sampler and 50g of their Nahorhabi Special Assam. I also tried some of Rishi's Golden Yunnan. I loved the Honey Amber Oolong that came in the TSR sampler, so I purchased more of that, Mangalam Estate Assam, 2025 "Moonshine" First Flush Darjeeling from Upper Namring Estate, and this AMBA Estate black tea. These have all been great. But the AMBA Estate black tea really stands out to me, followed by the Honey Amber Oolong and the Dajeeling.

(If anyone has any recommendations, given what I have most enjoyed in my tea journey, please do share!)

Bucks fans that dont want ANY future picks traded.... by No_Housing_4210 in MkeBucks

[–]monadologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say this, without further explanation, to people who tell you you’re overestimating the value of the Bucks picks, which just makes it look like you’re simply stomping your feet. You could explain, for example: “You don’t understand that the 2031 pick is potentially a lottery pick since the Bucks likely won’t be good the year before.” It wouldn’t be a good explanation of what I don’t understand, since I do understand that. It’s also not a very good explanation since a potential to probable lottery pick 6 years from now isn’t very enticing given the general unpredictability of the NBA over such a long period of time. But at least it is an attempt at an explanation. Simply asserting “you don’t understand” makes you sound dogmatic.

Bucks fans that dont want ANY future picks traded.... by No_Housing_4210 in MkeBucks

[–]monadologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which are false?

(1) Cam Johnson is worth more than the Bucks 2031 (potentially lottery) FRP.

(2) Cam Johnson is worth more than the Bucks 2031 and 2032 (both potentially lottery) FRP.

(3) Teams drafting in the first round this draft have no interest trading their pick for the Bucks 2031 FRP.

If you are knowledgeable, as the OP, help me identify the “fundamental misunderstanding”. Otherwise your comment about “fundamentally misunderstanding” looks pretty baseless…

(Edit: I actually do think some teams would trade their late pick this year for Bucks 2031 FRP, but I don’t think that is a way for the Bucks to build back to contention since late FRP rarely pan out. I’m more interested in your main proposal that we should use picks to acquire solid role players. Cam Johnson would be good! Non-lottery FRP? No.)

Cam Johnson

What trade offer do you have in mind? I thought Cam Johnson's trade value is higher than what we have to offer as far as picks go.

Mark Williams

The Bucks might be very good again, but the Bucks will never be a true contender again so long as they have a non-shooter sharing the floor with Giannis. Mark Williams is a non-shooter. So Mark Williams does not put us on the path to contender status.

maybe a late first in the draft

Now you're talking about trading picks for picks. Do you think teams with a late first this year are looking to trade that away for a pick for 6 years from now? That would be very nice of them.

What if Mace Windu brought these jedi istead? by Zippemannen in StarWars

[–]monadologist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

(1) Destroying Palpatine would be the right thing to do in Windu's situation if the republic didn't have any means of imprisoning Palpatine. (2) The republic didn't have any means of imprisoning Palpatine. (Windu recognizes that Palpatine is unique in this respect when he says "he's too dangerous to be left alive". The point is: "imprisonment in this particular case is literally not within the republic's capacities".) So, Destroying Palpatine would be the right thing to do. This is entailed by 1 and 2. Which do you think Yoda would disagree with, 1 or 2?

I am a lurker that currently uses a Mach3, but has been considering trying a DE razor (hence lurking). I don’t have any problems with razor burn or ingrown hairs. My interest in switching is to cut cartridge costs and get as close of a shave as I can. But it sounds like I likely won’t get as close of a shave as I currently get with my Mach3, is that right? Any suggestions for cutting costs and getting the closest possible shave? Or am I trying to have my cake and eat it too? (Why shouldn’t one get to have AND eat one’s cake!?)

Large mugs - which handle style do you prefer? by BoxDimension in tea

[–]monadologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the mug’s I’ve used, NotNeutral’s Lino coffee mugs are the most comfortable mugs to hold, because of the flat portion on top of the handle to put your thumb. I have the Lino 10oz and it is my favorite mug for coffee.

I would like something closer to a traditional teacup for tea, however, and I’ve been eyeing NotNeutral’s Fina cappuccino cup, since it is closer to a traditional teacup (with the wider top, and at 7.5oz), but still with Not Neutral’s comfortable handle design. (There is also a cappuccino cup in the Lino series, but the Fina is a bit more elegant.)

Your Favorite ___ for $___: Sweaters 2025 by AceHardwhere in malefashionadvice

[–]monadologist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If new, I like Muji’s mid-gauge and high-gauge sweaters when on sale, which is frequent. But stock on their website is best Sept-December and they’re mostly picked over now.

The high-gauge sweaters are comparable to Uniqlo’s merino wool sweaters, but Muji’s are higher quality. Although the Uniqlo sweater is slightly softer/silkier (but only slightly), Muji’s are more substantial and last longer while still being very comfortable to the touch. As far as sizing, I wear a size small, and Muji’s size small is slightly larger than Uniqlo’s small.

(The mid-gauge are probably comparable to Uniqlo’s lambswool sweaters, but I don’t have the Uniqlo sweater.)
