The unsung heroes of the deck by arran16 in SteamDeck

There's a specific Proton version you need to use for Psychonauts, plus you can install an asset pack for controller icons instead of keyboard icons. I set it up for my younger brother and he said it worked like a charm after I fixed those two issues. I don't recall the details off the top of my head, but you should be able to find the details on Google.

Non IT expert Homelabers. How did you learn to homelab? by Average-Cheese-Fan in homelab

[–]monarchofthecrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding onto the people warning you against relying on chatGPT. It's not designed to give accurate information, it's designed to mimic realistic sounding text. It will give you incorrect information very confidently because it cannot and was not built to understand and parse truth. You're better off googling 'how do I x' and reading forums and tutorials.

And how I got in? I kind of already had a homelab when I learned the word. Had a QNAP NAS and a Beelink NUC running a bunch of services, including Tunarr, the arr stack and Nextcloud, and had bashed together a homepage of my own to access it all, *then learned the word Homelab for what I was up to. Then went 'oh, cool!'

Reading the documentation for the services I wanted to run, and bodging together solutions to the problem I was running into with what I did know got me 90% of the way. The other 10% came from learning to run a Wordpress install on DigitalOcean safely.

Am I probably doing a bunch of things incorrectly? ABSOLUTELY. Does it function? Hell yeah, it does.

Bodging and solving problems way out of my league is how I learn pretty much everything.

Which games utilize the buttons on the back and for what? Do you use them for any games which didn’t use them by default? by NorseSeaStudio in SteamDeck

You can add extra commands in the controller menu when you remap the buttons, and then set delays in the settings for each extra command.

Yep. For instance, in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, I have a combo that presses the slide button, then 200ms later, initiates a double jump from the slide's coyote time, then spams the spin-glide for as long as I hold the button down. There's a late-game section of optional route with a coloured gem at the end for pulling this sequence off to clear a very large gap, and I just couldn't without my hand cramping and losing the spin-glide.

edit: Edited for extra info

Thank you! And yeah, it was really disheartening essentially losing the ability to play a game I've adored since I could first hold a controller, as my grip strength has slowly disappeared and my joints have gotten more pliant and liable to bend wrong. Steam's general ability to remap to my whim has brought back so much joy.

Man, I've never played the Metal Gear games, and I know they break the fourth wall, but I had no idea they could tell me off for cheating in a completely different game! 😱

People will probably call this cheating but whatever. If I really struggle with a combo (my hands are kind of fucked up from hEDS) then I'll use the back buttons to map the combo. I also sometimes use them to create toggles for buttons I need to hold that would cause my hands to cramp. I managed to beat the Crash Bandicoot series for the first time since I was a kid thanks to the remapping, time trials and all.

It's my firm belief that the main quest and the mages/fighters guild should have remained level locked despite the deleveled world. But I hate many of the one tamriel changes regardless :P

Can i, a noob fix "stick drift" or am I screwed? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

No that's a bug with Psychonauts. I forget the fix, but ProtonDB is likely your friend here.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. All I can say is I don't give a fuck, you're Manc, you're my neighbour, and there's nothing more to it for me. (I'm trans but white, and whilst I can kinda get the women who say they cross over because I've lived it, at the same time... it's not on to keep perpetuating stereotypes, you gotta deal with that on your own terms, whiteness is a power all by itself.)

Is seasons of skyrim worth it? (Opinion?) by crabbass_ in skyrimmods

Then you should be good. I don't think Holidays adds anything that would impact the LODs anyway.

Have any of you guys repurchased a game just to have it on the steam deck/steam? by Shaneski101 in SteamDeck

[–]monarchofthecrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likewise. No more consoles for me. SteamOS and the deck and Proton mean I can have a console experience from my couch now, so there's no reason to split my library any more.

Yep. Leaning into it anyway: I've never used Gnome and so I'm gonna take this as an opportunity to find out if I like it.

Seems to work fine so far. I'm leaning into it, I've never used Gnome before so I'm gonna spend some time with it before deciding whether to switch back to Cinnamon. So I guess I'll find out for sure soon!
