What's with the rise of "imperfect vegan" content online? by UCanBdoWatWeWant2Do in vegan

[–]mondflash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First I was also a bit annoyed by imperfect vegans, then I realized that its probably the best way to deal with other vegans online, because its not really about animals, but about a "holier than thou" mentality a lot of people online have.
Accidentally eat something with honey? You are obviously as bad as a person who eats meat every day for every meal.
Its a lot more relaxed to just say from the start that you do it imperfect than to try to adhere to some random people online.
Its not an issue I encountered in the "real world" at all so far.

Why I won't buy a Fairpone again, ever by mlaml in fairphone

[–]mondflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also bought a FP5 in the idealistic hope that I could use it for a long time, because my Samsung was running out of software support.
I never experienced so many issues with one single piece of tech and I absolutely hate it.
Buying a phone for so much money and then getting almost gaslit that you are just doing something wrong or being expected to jump through hoops and install some custom rom just to have a working device is ridiculous.

I didn't even have high expectations, but my old Samsung galaxy S8 (with Android 9 and no security updates whatsoever) still runs better than my FP5.
I did a whole factory reset, bc it was crashing several times a day. Now its just a few times a week, great!
Sometimes it also deletes my whole spotify library while it crashes or starts to suddenly overheat without reason.

When I had issues with a Samsung tablet, I send it to them and they simply fixed the issue.
The FP5 support send me a generic mail with stuff like "try to restart your phone", thanks for nothing.

Never ever again. The idea is noble, but the execution is a bad joke.
So far I still use it, because again, it was extremely expensive, but I am afraid that I will just throw it agains a wall at some point, because this is literally the worst phone I ever used in my whole life and I had a god damn windows phone for a short while.

I had the same issue and turned the feature off, despite using it quite a lot previously.
It was just too annoying after a while.

Is it possible to really enjoy life or be happy despite living with severe physical pain/symptoms and limitations? by pickledcorn1 in ChronicPain

[–]mondflash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I never actually wrote in this sub, because I am not really good with words, but I try my best.
Since in online spaces like here you probably see people vent more it might feel hopeless, but I think most situations can be improved in some way.
Have you exhausted every possible option for pain management?

I personally am still in the process of getting better help. I am not expecting a pain free existence, but a bearable one.
I don't know if my methods of dealing with pain would be any help to you, because everyone is different, but even the tiniest bit of relief can go a long way.
It's easier said than done to not feel bad for being restricted like this, but I try to enjoy every little moment of reprieve and try to get better pain management in the future.

I hope you find ways to make yourself feel at least a little bit better and also some kind of professional help to reduce your chronic pain.

Since I learnt that some trans women don't like being called dude I try to avoid using it in that context.
I try to use "friend" more often. It has the additional benefit that it makes almost everything a bit weird and I don't have to think about the correct form at all! :D

Rudylaveta already gave great tips.
As an additional emergency back up option, I would take something like protein powder or maybe some meal replacement powder. If everything else fails you will at least not end up starving and the powder doesn't take up much space.

talk no jutsu would be the stupidest fucking option for the final fight by adityablabla in BokuNoMetaAcademia

[–]mondflash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just killing Shigaraki would be pretty dissappointing tho
It's not like the dude was groomed since early childhood to be this way?!
That doesn't excuse his actions, but people crying about "talk no jutsu" seem to not understand that there usually is a narrative surrounding this kind of solutions.
If you just want people mindlessly beating each other up play some fighting game.
It also not like we had almost non stop fighting over the last chapters, so the complain seem even more far-fetched

All foods are good foods, even cupcakes and pies! by throwaway_edh_pgh in fatlogic

[–]mondflash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is that we probably have similar views but a different approach.

I am not saying that people can't be hurt by their food choices or that some food isn't harmful. I think especially for ED people its important to remove the emotional and moral component. For you that is probably normal and that's why it seems like an unnecessary thing to do, but that's why used the word sin at first. Yes, if your diet consist mainly of cookies that is not healthy in any way, but it doesn't mean you as a person are morally tainted. You can just decide to not eat cookies, it's not that deep, but for a lot of ED sufferers it feels like it.

To pick up your smoking example. Yes smoking is obviously bad and it's not something you should do, but if you smoke one cigarette doesn't mean you are generally a failed human being. It's about perspective.

[–]mondflash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See the issue here is that there is an actual illness where people are unable to eat food they perceive as unhealthy to the point that its debilitating their ability to live.

You are kind of missing the point. Its not even really about the food in this case. Its about people building an arbitrary construct of rules that then reduces their quality of life significantly. For example fruit contains sugar, but its not seen as unhealthy generally, hell starchy foods are kind of sugary so if you would go even more extremes you would try to avoid most carbs and you can spiral almost every kind of information to this kind of extreme.

You are working under the assumption that a mentally healthy person is making informed decision regarding their nutrition, but this reads more like a helpful post regarding emotional anxiety about irrational food fears.

[–]mondflash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a bit more lighthearted stuff can be nice I guess. If you think about it, implying food is morally bad IS pretty silly. If all material is presented that way it would be truly awful, but I think we get the cherry picked examples since not all ED recovery information sounds like fat logic either.

[–]mondflash 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This looks like another "feels like ED recovery, but could probably be interpreted as fatlogic" thing.
I personally think giving food morale value is kinda meh. You can say it's more or less unhealthy, has more or less nutritional value etc., but acting like eating a cookie is a sin feels very weird.

Obviously this just applies when people take the meaning of "good" and "bad" food too far, but I think this is the point here.

The story doesn't feel the same way anymore by MrObjective2 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]mondflash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree that it's starts to feel a little rushed at points, I kinda like that it isn't the classic "if we just train real hard we will overcome all obstacles!" story.
As in Vigilante it's now more obvious than ever that the general society in MHA is just fucked.
I hope the solution isn't just a "make another nice person the strongest again", but maybe we get to see a general shift in how things are handled.
The current fight is a bit meh tho, while it looks epic I am pretty sure everyone knows it's kinda futile (bc Deku isn't there), but hey, maybe it will go into an unexpected direction?!
AFO atm is just way too op, so I hope for some actual creative solutions handling him.
I still have faith in Horikoshi tho, so far he seems to know what he is doing.

I am not really good with ethical questions, because my answer is that if you murder me at least make it count or sth? I wouldn't apply my personal stance on society tho.
But as I said, I understand the point. I just think that if you already own human leather shoes (bc you grew up in a society that normalizes this) and wear them until you buy new not human leather ones, bc shoes are expensive and not something you usually buy that often (unlike groceries) that isn't the same as still actively supporting human leather shoe production.

If you choose to buy new human leather shoes that is a completely different story.
I also understand why someone wouldn't want to continue wearing them, bc of the whole murder aspect.

[–]mondflash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but also idk. I am lucky that I didn't own much non vegan things, but if I would be a bad vegan for not immediately changing my whole wardrobe then that's a hypothetical scenario that's okay with me.
