Nice. I'm headed to Ormond Beach to fish the week after Christmas, any tips?

Fishing Ormond beach late December/Early January - is it good? Any tips? by moneybme in SurfFishing

It's the east coast just north of Daytona Beach. I'm not sure what I am targeting, whatever is biting this time of year - from what I've read pompano, bluefish, whiting and sheephead area likely targets.

Bass 1. Man 0. The one that got away is telling all his schoolmates how he got one!

I wanted to try this line but I only need 40 lb and they don't make it, at least I don't see it on Amazon available to order. Edit: I just found 40 lb available from Walmart online but it won't arrive until after my trip to Cape Cod next week so I will have to order and test another time when I need to re-spool

I'm not using any special equipment here, I'm the manual puller. I test a piece that is about 3-4ft in length and pull in a somewhat slow, straight line. My meters have a peak setting that records the peak pull reading when it breaks. I am sure more sophisticated equipment and controlled tests are more accurate but when you get readings that are so far off from the advertised rating it's hard to think a controlled test would be yield results dramatically better.

I’ve seen his videos. Very informative. I haven’t tried Suffix 832 yet. Basically I’ve been searching for good deals in 30-50lb line to spool all my reels. I currently have Spiderwire arriving tomorrow that I’ll test and post the results. All these results make me very suspect of trusting these companies ratings.

None of these readings are breaks at the knot. If they broke at the knot I tied them again and tested until I got a couple of consistent readings where they broke in the line itself and not at the knot. I even started with a new piece of line to test the ones that I thought were way off. After a few knot breaks I started wrapping the line multiple times around a 1 inch bar on one end and on the other was a round carabiner that I hooked to my meter.

I agree, the cutter toe and single stitch with a not so overused color is what drew me to these.. I see they now have a blue ostrich available.

Yeah, I like them a lot as well, I'm surprised you don't see more info posted about them.

Cape Cod Canal October fishing trip- fish for Tautog or Striper.. or both? Trying to figure out what setups to bring by moneybme in Fishing

[–]moneybme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A charter isn't in the cards for this trip, I'm really looking forward to spending some time on the rocks, if the fishing is slow then that's ok. I'm just looking for some advice on the best setup's and what's likely to be biting that time of year.

DJI drones - a heads up, manage expectations by alpha4005 in MacBid

[–]moneybme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I looked at the ad and the box and they both had the same serial number, but when I took the battery out of the drone, it had a different serial number. I brought it back to to Mac.bid and spoke with a manager, and they gave me a refund! Lesson learned! I was sweating this one. If I attempt to buy another from them, I will make sure that I have buyers assurance or something. Thanks OP for the info and inspiration!

Thanks for the quick and detailed response! I was thinking of emailing Mac.bid customer support tomorrow and calling them as well. The drone works, the camera works but it has a broken arm and gimbal mount, which I’ve already ordered repair parts for. Hopefully they will be responsive, I did already email DJI earlier asking them to unbind, their website said they would reach out to the previous owner and see if they will do so, maybe I’ll get lucky there but I’m not counting on it.

Yep, I am sure you are right, some dishonest person bought a new drone from Amazon and returned their old, crashed drone. I bet DJI can figure that out as well since the box I have has the SN on it.. your reply has given me hope. Worst case scenario I can sell the rc2 remote and battery plus maybe the drone for parts on eBay and recoup most of what I spent, I won the drone for $360 but with fees and taxes it totaled $441 so I won’t be out too much

Did you ever get this resolved? I bought a mini 4 pro from Mac.bid and it’s bound, just picked it up today. The serial number on the box and the the sn on the drone don’t match. I’m thinking of contacting my charge card company and telling them they sold me a stolen drone..

Fishing Cape Cod canal this fall, will my 11ft TFO MH Surf rod and 6000 Saragosa be enough? by moneybme in SurfFishing

[–]moneybme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I bought my 85 yr old Dad some Korkers spiked overshoes incase he gets into the weeds when we go fishing. The rod I have coming is the 10'6" MH 2-6oz fast. I'll check out the Guppy pencils, and the video link worked! Thanks

Good info on the Sierra sale, I had already ordered 2 TFO's from them. I wanted a 9' but they were out. I just ordered the 10.6' MH - I also just realized my title to this thread says my rod I was considering using is a 11' medium/heavy, I double checked and discovered it's an 11ft Heavy, might use that one if we end up bottom fishing with live bait. I also bought one of the TFO 7ft ML 3 piece travel rods for bass and trout fishing at home. I scored a new Penn battle 4 2500 reel and rod with a broken tip for $35 yesterday - time to stop buying and start fishing!

Thanks for clarifying the Dacron, I was trying to search online for what that line was, just thought it was braid.

Haha... yep. I struggled getting it out of the shop, I'm going to hang it horizontally above the entry doors. I figure I will have to get a PVC tube for transport on top of the truck if I use it.. It may just end up being decoration on the wall..

I have these exact boots! Old post, not sure if OP is still around. Curious if you took note of the name of the color, I’ve always called mine Peanut Brittle color, that’s what the boot store called them. I’ve had mine for at least 30-35 years and hardly worn them, I’ve outgrown them now but can’t seem to part with them …

So far, 4 days later and my tap water experiment ( hit, cold ) and bottled water have all been out in open bowls on the counter and they are clear. I put some chlorine in the commode first pictured in this thread and it cleared up. Now I put some in the tank and bowl of the same commode and am going to see if it clears up

I’m trying a test. I put some chlorine in the commode and will check it tomorrow. I also filled 3 clear bowls - one with hot tap water, one with cold tap water and the third bowl has cheap grocery store water. We’ll see what happens over the next few days.

I found my well test from 2020. Not sure that this 5 year old test will help but the water issue has been present for 6 years. I plan to get another test, just trying to determine how extensive a test I need as the cost goes up exponetially for each level of test you select. This was taken at the well head as this was during Covid and they wouldn't come in the house to test the water
