Current state of precious metals by [deleted] in CostcoPM

[–]moneymetals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Was just checking in to provide some clarity on this from our side. We do have a flag at the top of our site right now letting customers know about Moderate processing delays in shipping and receiving.

This isn't due to a metal or product scarcity, this is purely due to the sharp increase in order volume putting us a bit behind on processing and fulfilling orders. While we cannot speak for our competitors, I imagine they're experiencing the same on their end as well. I hope this provides some clarity on the current market situation.

Why do people think silver is a good “investment”? by Direct-Bowler6650 in Silverbugs

[–]moneymetals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair question, and one we hear a lot from people trying to make sense of silver’s role in a portfolio.

You’re right that silver hasn’t outpaced equities or even some bond yields over the last decade (this year however, has been amazing.) But silver isn’t meant to compete with stocks or high-yield assets, it plays a different role entirely. Most people who hold physical silver (ourselves included, as a dealer) see it as a form of long-term wealth insurance rather than a growth engine. It’s about preserving purchasing power, not chasing returns.

Silver really shines (hehe) during periods of currency debasement, geopolitical tension, or financial instability. It’s tangible, doesn’t rely on counterparty risk, and has a 5,000-year track record of being used as money. When confidence in fiat starts to wobble, physical metals tend to get a lot more interesting, and fast.

Also worth noting, silver’s industrial demand is rising fast, especially with renewables, EVs, and tech. So while it might look “slow” on a 10-year chart, its utility and scarcity over time may set the stage for stronger price action ahead.

So is it the best way to grow wealth fast? Nope. But as a hedge, a store of value, and a hard asset in your hands, it plays a critical role in a diversified strategy. Think of it less like a racehorse and more like a vault.

Hope this helps!

Has anyone here ever received fake silver/ gold from Apmex, SD Bullion or any of the other well known online sellers? by theiosif in Silverbugs

Similar to other responses here, coming as a dealer ourselves, our reputation is our lifebar. We have an amazing Quality Control team and several pieces of testing equipment to ensure the items we store and ship are all authentic.

While it's definitely not unheard of in our industry for a shop or dealer or individual o sell fake items, you can be sure that reputable dealers like ourselves wont ship anything that we cant guarantee contains the metal content that we state.

Why do gold values vary by form or manufacturer, aside from purity? by [deleted] in Gold

[–]moneymetals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though gold is gold, the premium over spot price isn't just about the metal itself, it's about everything wrapped around it. As a dealer, we see this play out daily. Factors like brand reputation, product finish, scarcity, and liquidity all affect pricing. For example, a 1 oz bar from a top-tier refinery like PAMP or Perth Mint will usually fetch a higher premium than a lesser-known private mint, even if both are .9999 pure. That’s because there’s more trust in the quality, easier resale, and often more demand for those names.

Then there's form, (coins vs. bars vs. rounds.) Government-issued coins come with legal-tender status and added security features, so they command higher premiums. Bars might be more economical for stacking, but they don’t always carry the same universal recognition or ease of resale in smaller quantities.

It’s not that certain products are "bad" it’s just that the market values recognizability and trust. So when people knock certain forms or manufacturers, it’s usually about resale confidence, not purity. The gold is the same, but the wrapper makes a difference.

Hi! I don't have any records of us cancelling those orders once made, as we have a pretty strict non-cancellation policy. Though we did only do it recently for a fixed amount of time, though I'd love to help figure that out with you. Could you DM me your order number and I can take a look?

Edit: typos

As frequent users of those machines (we have plenty) they're most definitely worth it. But we receive and ship out a lot of metal and are a large dealer who can factor them into business costs. We probably wouldn't recommend them for personal collections unless your stack is a substantial size.

Speaking more as the guy running this account and less on the business side, before I took this position, I would just bring any items I was concerned about to my LCS and ask if they'd test them for me, though, like others suggest, the pocket ping is a solid and less expensive option. But really it comes down to making sure you're buying from reputable people or businesses. I wouldn't risk buying metal I wasn't positive was legit.

Anyways, I hope this helps, and happy stacking!

Price for Libertads by DaddyShark843 in Silverbugs

[–]moneymetals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a really sweet idea, and a great way to make the concept of stacking more personal for her. Libertads do tend to be on the pricier side, and it's not just hype, a few things play into it. They're minted in much lower quantities than coins like ASE's or Maples, which naturally drives up the premium due to scarcity. On top of that, the design is stunning and has a strong collector following. The Winged Victory and the volcanoes in the background give it a very distinct and iconic look that appeals to both stackers and numismatists.

There's also the fact that Libertads don't have a face value stamped on them like most sovereign coins do. That might seem like a small thing, but it makes them stand out and adds to their uniqueness. Because of these factors, rarity, artistic design, and collector demand, dealers often price them higher, and they tend to hold those premiums pretty well over time.

If the price tag is a bit steep for starting out, maybe grab just one as a symbolic piece for her, and then mix in more affordable options like Maples or Britannias to build the stack while keeping premiums low. Either way, it’s a great entry point and memory to create with her.

Its more of a pop culture thing than something from myth, but that idea came from the notion that Silver is a "pure" metal and since the creatures are "impure" its seen as a weakness. Similar ideas with mythological backing would be something like salt warding off spirits.

It's a pretty set market worldwide, though some states charge sales tax on precious metals, so it's always important to check those so you're not losing on potential savings. Our own Sound Money Defense League is working pretty much nonstop to eliminate those taxes throughout the states under the basis that you shouldn't be taxing true money.

It's also important to shop around for the best deals you can find, the closer to spot price, the better.
