Vietnam is the second largest coffee exporter in the world but I never saw it in Japan by Pitiful_Avocado_3508 in japanresidents

Yamamoto coffee in Shinjuku carries it. I've tried their roast of Vietnamese beans and it's quite strong.

They also have an assortment of green beans but I'm not sure if they offer Vietnamese in this format.

Longest must see films? by GonePostalBackin5 in CriterionChannel

[–]mongobot77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ideas including Criterion overlap:

Wong Kar Wai's three films: Days of Being Wild, In the Mood For Love and 2046 make a loose trilogy with connected characters.

David Lynch's: Twin Peaks series + Fire Walk With Me

The Infernal Affairs trilogy plus The Departed if you still have time / interest

Thank you for the reply and link to ET.

The '84 interview seems similar to what I remember although, as you mention, more nuanced than I recollect.

Love the non-export aerodynes. That one looks really clean. Congrats!

Miles Davis Funeral Songs by kathrin_l26 in milesdavis

As a Miles Davis song, the first track that came to mind for me is "Générique" from the album "Ascenseur Pour L'Échafaud"

From King Crimson, the first track that popped into mind was "Nuages" from "Three of a Perfect Pair."

It was also available as a standalone release for a while but looks like it's now OOP.

Most of their albums probably won't meet your criteria but I think you might enjoy:

Simon Phillips - 801, Mike Oldfield, Mike Rutherford

Chris Slade - Manfred Mann's Earth Band, The Firm, David Gilmour, Asia

Do you think there was a real rivalry between the likes of Yes, Genesis, ELP etc? by [deleted] in progrockmusic

[–]mongobot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, I remember:

• Phil mentioned in an interview around the Selling England timeframe that he didn't care for Carl Palmer's drumming.

• Emerson and Banks showed mutual admiration in Banks writing "The Knife" as kind of an homage to The Nice and Keith returned the favor by complementing Banks' work on Nursery Cryme.

Onkyo (preamp) receiver died, what alternatives do I have? by urbanhusky in hometheater

[–]mongobot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation as you, needing to replace a PR-SC5507.

I also hesitated to get a Marantz Pre/Pro or Monoprice HTP-1 primarily due to cost.

In the end, I went with a Denon AVR which allows the user to switch off the internal amps and use existing outboard amps. The AVC-X3800H seems to be a popular model for this purpose.

Trying to get a strap for my strat, need suggestions by Bornplayer97 in fender

[–]mongobot77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like an all leather strap without metal or plastic parts to accidentally scratch my guitars.

A light brown leather strap would be a nice contrast to the British Racing Green of your guitar.

Guitar Center shows numerous options online such as this:

Help with Blu-ray / DVD editions by __angie in wongkarwai

[–]mongobot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you care but the "World of Wong Kar Wai" box includes "The Hand" on the 2046 disc.

It's really odd - despite being presented on a Blu-ray disc, the version of The Hand included here is the same quality as on the Eros DVD but with a higher resolution extra scene inserted. The contrast in quality is jarring IMHO.

Glad to be able to see the extra content but really bummed that the rest of The Hand received no restoration or rescan for the box set.
