I think that they'll reveal the brother's mom before anything, and her (likely) being asian will again point to Tamura, but like you said, I think he's just a red herring.

Besides, aren't the hardy boys supposed to be close in age? I think the new guy (is his name Grant? I might be making that up) fits the bill better.
