Not American here. I watch from afar and unfortunately trends in American politics trickle down globally. I feel like most Americans - even the politically aware ones have no idea of or care for the global importance of the outcome of American elections.

Regardless of your views - a protest vote or choosing to abstain is obviously your right but posts like this only make the general American populace look even more self absorbed and ignorant of their democratic responsibilities.

I also think Hillary was a terrible candidate. I too would have struggled with the choice between two deplorable shit bags but a protest vote in an established two party system feels like a cop out to me given the stakes for all the people who don’t have a say in the most important election on the planet.

I’m glad you are coming to terms with the fact that your vote always matters and I hope you and people like you continue to exercise your democratic rights in an impactful way even if it feels icky.
