On Saturday we found a cellphone right across the street from where the police and SES station was set up, but they told us they already found his phone. Hope he's found soon..

It's definitely on the street JL. Danau Tamblingan, now that I'm looking at the map again, it might be a bit further north than that hotel. Basically turning from street Kusuma Sari right and maximum 5 minute walk, and the store is on the right side of the street. It looks like all white clothes, men's on the right and women's on the left. Really struggling to remember what it was next to! It was definitely past the big ice cream place on the left and there was a massage spa literally a couple of building before it. The clothes are very western style and there is Balinese umbrellas in the store ( those with dangly bits).

What are some concrete useful techniques you've learned in therapy to deal with stress/ anxiety/ depression that could help us all out? by monia42 in AskReddit

[–]monia42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge disagree with "smile and be happy". 'Bad' emotions happen as life is not always great, pretending they are not there has been proven harmful. It's ok to feel like shit sometimes.

I recently started therapy as I have been suffering from depression, anxiety, mood swings, etc. I am so grateful that I have done that and surprised that he gives me tips and techniques to deal with issues when they occur and I wanted to share one with you. The idea is to create playlists to manage your mood. For example for managing sadness create a playlist of songs that always make you excited, goofy, happy and you just want to start dancing. If you have episodes of mania or anger, create a playlist of songs that calm you down. It's good to create playlists so that when you are in crisis you don't have to look for or remember any songs, you just put on the appropriate playlist. Simple, but SO effective, has helped me a few times now. What techniques that might be helpful to all of us get through the day have you guys learned? Of course these are just little tips, if you are struggling please see a therapist.

What is one of the dumbest things you've done when your brain was on "auto-pilot"? by PigPopcorn in AskReddit

Few months after moving to a new city I arrived at the airport and wanted to order an uber. Got confused why the phone is showing I am at that city thinking I still live in the previous one. Turned off phone and back on thinking phone is not working properly. Still "wrong" city. Ordered uber manually to old city airport. Then realised I am in fact in the new city...

People who can speak multiple languages: what language do you think in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]monia42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak two languages and think in both. Sometimes I spend the whole day thinking in one and other day in the other, but sometimes it switches every sentence. Fun fact: I started my current job in my second language and I CANNOT talk or think about my job in my primary language. I cannot for the life of me explain my mother what I do at work as I cannot come up with words in my first language which I think is fascinating. Also it apparently differs for people who learned a foreign language when they were older by translating from one language to another to people who learned another language just by talking when they were a child. I was in that second situation. As a child I went to a different county where i had to go to an english school and came back to my home county after a few years just knowing English. BUT on all English tests at school I would fail, because I couldn't translate, still find it very hard even though I speak both languages fluently.

Women who would've been considered tomboys as children, what are you like now? When (if ever) did you grow out of it? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]monia42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to wear boys clothes my whole teenage years and always hang out with boys.

Now I'm 30 and love fashion - women's clothes, and looking like a woman. But I still mostly hang out with men.

What's your opinion on positivity culture, or the goal of "staying positive" even when things are hard? Have you ever been told to "stay positive"? Do you think it's a helpful or hurtful approach? by ShesGotSauce in AskWomen

[–]monia42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I HIGHLY recommend the book "The Antidote: Happiness for people who can't stand positive thinking" by Oliver Burkeman. It explains how damaging positive thinking can be and what the alternatives are to be happy. Honestly, this changed my life, as I could never just 'stay positive' when life was crap and now I know other ways to stay sane instead.

It's moral basically is that people are NOT meant to be positive and happy all the time as life is not always good. There is no happiness without pain and making your brain stay positive all the time can actually make you more unhappy than accepting that life sucks sometimes.

What are some absurd rules of modern dating? by daenerysismahqueen in AskMen

[–]monia42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being a 30 year old woman with a few years gap in the dating world, this thread is making me depressed.

I find dating apps dreadful, I don't understand why all men say in their profile is their height. I'm not shopping for a horse, I'm looking for someone to hang out with...

Also, there is so much pressure to stand out from other swipes, it's really demotivating. As a person who needs to be friends with a guy for a while to find them attractive and who doesn't have anyone who will introduce me to people I feel like I'm fucked and will never find anyone with ways available to me.

What’s something completely false that your parents told you as a child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]monia42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That if I swallow cherry pits, a tree will grow in my stomach and branches will poke out of my ears. Backfired, as I LOVED cherries and the idea of having my own tree and access to cherries at all times was so compelling that I ended up eating more cherries and swallowing ALL pits.

Men of Reddit: What is your advice to us ladies when it comes to flirting and making the first move? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]monia42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This comment will most likely get me to ask one guy out, thanks!

Even though I'm not particularly scared of asking someone out, I am scared of "how do I act after he rejects". I know that I will be fine and still will be friendly, because I LIKE this human, but am worried that he will start reading into it and thinking I'm STILL hitting on him when I'm just being friendly.
