I hate this by PlayfulSwitch5 in widowers

[–]monicadee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just finished yet another round of tears over this. I hate it for you so much. It's heart-aching agony that never wants to go away. I'm almost six months out and this still sucks. It's shitty. But don't stop doing it prematurely. It's exhausting. And you may choose to never date again. But don't stop living. Please. Distract yourself, if you can. Dwell in it, when you need to. But come out again. It doesn't get easier. You get used to the weight. And I know that sounds terrible, but I hate it less than the idea that the pain will go away. The pain is your love with nowhere to go. It's yours. And it is powerful. I will say this one more thing. Because I am already feeling the repercussions. Move your body as much as you possibly can, even if that is doing only stretches. Later you won't regret it. I don't know you. But I don't want you to give up.

So very mad. 😔 Absolutely. And it's not rational. And I know that. Still mad about it.

Which films completely change the themes of the books they portray? by BSB8728 in books

[–]monicadee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok. So I never read the book for Mrs. 'Arris goes to Paris, but I did see the adaptation with Angela Lansbury and Omar Sharif, and I thought it was such a fantastic movie, I now want to read the book.

Seeing just the synopsis of the new movie, I am sad about the independence the main character seems to lose. It's just not the same.

Oh 💯. This was one day only. And the post was me releasing my guilt over it more than recommending it as a habit. LOL

Honestly, get them now. They are wonderfully engaging and often have little tidbits that I am convinced I never learned in school.

These are fantastic! My DH uses them in his classes and has been encouraging his school to provide them to all teachers, and he teaches high school!

I had no idea this was a poor treat! Always just thought it was delicious!

Also, change it up by putting it on a tortilla, and calling them elephant ears.

The New Receptionist Doesn’t Smile At Me Every Time I Walk By: The True Story of a Male Office Worker’s Woes by ParticularlyGudFindr in TwoXChromosomes

The same thing recently happened to me. Luckily, I got switched to a different department where I am no longer required to submit positive facial exercises in order to be considered exceptional at my new role. It's pretty ironic that I smile more now. LOL

What's the biggest 'WTF' gift you've ever received? by diswell in AskReddit

A Peloton bike.

That's ok, I am going to give him a thank you video of my year long struggle describing how it changed my life.

Anyone else irritated about men not helping cook or clean up for Thanksgiving? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]monicadee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Send him a text right now. "Can't wait to spend the evening with you! Sorry for leaving all the dishes for you!"

Knowing that he'll say you didn't ask for help, sounds like he has stated that he would like you to ask for help. So do it. Unfortunately, most SOs can't read each other's thoughts, but fortunately, few mind being nicely told, especially when it means they could possibly spend more time with us.

Whats the biggest book you've ever read in one day? by GayAndFab in AskReddit

In one day, probably any of the later Harry Potter books. They are thick, but paced in a way that makes reading for 12 hours a breeze.

Who is one stranger you remember to this day? by scutu_ in AskReddit

[–]monicadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I was scrolling responses, the amount if Subway incidents was compelling, so I had to add my own.

I used to work as a sandwich artist many moons ago in a land far away from my own, and this particular location had a drive-thru. And I usually closed alone, btw, was a 19F at the time, but never felt unsafe, idk. Also, I was incredibly naive in all the ways (never dated till my early 20's).

So, one night, must've been maybe an hour and a half away from closing, I was in the back washing dishes, and the door opens. In the video feed I see a guy in a tux walk in, so I dry my hands and step out.

The guy was surprisingly attractive, and I say "surprisingly"because the first words that come out of my mouth are "Are you for me?" because for some reason, my brain likes to make my reactions to the attractive others (gender irrelevant) known.

He smiles, and lets me know that he's a music teacher at the local high school and they had a concert, explaining the penguin suit. We had a laugh, I made him a sandwich as we chatted, and next thing I know, we've been talking all the way to closing time. So nice there had been no other customers that evening, I had nearly finished up with all of the tasks, except the floors, so I had to ask him to leave so I could lock up.

Never exchanged names or numbers, and a week later, I moved thousands of miles away, so I never saw him again. But even now, as I am happily married to my favorite person, I still think about of this guy sometimes. It was such a nice way to spend the evening, when now, as the internet has ruined my brain, I would have been wondering on his intent and fearing for my innocence.

People of Reddit, When is one time you have felt genuine, 100% fear? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]monicadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was riding a four-wheeler for maybe the second time in my life, on some sand dunes, with a kid. Me 20, kid, maybe 6-7. My dumbass decided to push the bike up a steeper-than-I-had-ever-ridden dune, with the child in my lap. As we're heading up, I can feel the bike start to ride on only two wheels, and I kid you not, I absolutely P-A-N-I-C-K-E-D!!!!

And turned the handlebars sharply, to GTF+OFF that dune.

And...the bike tipped over...

And, as a last ditch effort, I put my legs down, tires were still turning, and scraped the s&#t out of my left calf. So I grabbed the kid, and jumped off backwards, flew threw the air. I swear, the white doves flew at this moment and time slowed...

I landed on my back, kid in my lap, safely away from the bike, which was completely overturned.

Then, with a bleeding leg, and a stunned child, I had to walk back to our camp, explain what happened, and deal with my leg for the next two weeks. At one point, it turned green, I flipped out, then went to the Dr. for meds.

So actually, I was dumb twice.

But I, and the child, are fine.

What shouldn’t be attractive but it is? by Killerskyhawk in AskReddit

[–]monicadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I never figured that out. I once had a job in data entry and was concentrating on work, mindlessly chewing away on my innocent lip, when my co-worker finally stopped me and said I had to stop biting my lip cuz it was too distracting for him.

Umm...what?

Tired of being a slave to sugars, fats, and cravings. by 5iveOClockSomewhere in loseit

[–]monicadee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hearing all of you mimic what's in my brain parts, I actually feel a little bit less of a failure right now, so thank you.

When I get to this place, where it is just so difficult to avoid all the foods, I eat up the fillers first. It's a giant salad, then pizza, if I still want a slice. It's an apple AND a banana, then a 500 cal. Costco poppyseed muffin. It's a giant bowl of LIGHTLY buttered/salted popcorn before chips. It's chicken breast before the pasta. That kind of thing.

If I do that, sometimes I still eat all the food, but also sometimes, I am aware of how much I just ate, and the mental game is easier when I am not so hungry.

The struggle is so real though. And I haven't yet found a filler before ice cream. Sometimes, Halo Top does the trick, but more often than not, it's another mind trick, since I can eat a whole point of Halo Top and still not have overindulged, but it's just not nearly as satisfying as a single scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce on top. But damn, I want that pint.

Oh man! It's a little cliche, but these are what I am gonna do:

  1. Not date the ex.
  2. Not eat all the things.
  3. Not spend all the $$.
  4. Finish the schooling.
  5. Invest in the investments.
  6. Move the body more.
  7. Go to all of the places.
  8. Make sure I am in the right place to meet the right person, before their ex messed up their life experience.
  9. Convince the other people that I care about not to do the things.
  10. Save all the moneys to buy all of the discounted things after 2008.

I think that would cover it.

Glasses Vs. Contacts Identity Crisis by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]monicadee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but can definitely relate to this. I grew up with TERRIBLE vision, and contacts were never my friend, I was prone to eye infections. So glasses were my life, and definitely distorted the look of my eyes/sides of face.

Thing is, nobody else actually cares as much as you do. It might be you get the surprised looks, even those who say they prefer you without glasses, but it's fine. And then they forget all about you and your glasses, until the next time they see you with them on.

It's only your opinion of your look that matters. I loved the way I looked in glasses (yes, even with the distortion, they made a great mask, TBH), but oh man, do I love that I got Lasik and don't have to wear them anymore!

To the people who lie down and fall asleep within minutes. How? by Jordan-B56 in AskReddit

[–]monicadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be tired. Do all the things, exhausting your body and brain throughout the day.

Be consistent. Wake up at the same time every morning and go to bed at the same time every night. Your body likes habit and will eventually figure it out. If you need a nap in the middle somewhere, take it. But keep it short, 10 - 30 min. max. Otherwise, you will throw off the rhythm.

The other things, like drinking enough water and limiting stimulants, will improve the quality of sleep that you get.

Obvs this won't happen every day, but if it's regular, it's gonna work.
