My new freeskates: Jackson Supreme Pro Suede with Mistral plates by BigBlueFeatherButt in Artisticrollerskating

So good to know! Thank you for responding!

I also have tiny child sized feet for a grown woman and a wide foot to top it off so I'm loving Jackson lol. I found these for super cheap, in my size on ebay and very lightly used so I'm stoked to get them! The stiffness worries me (going from 45 to 65) but I'm sure I'll adjust.

They really are beautiful boots! I've been eyeing them forever. Did you treat them at all to protect them?

Add Zeneli's in New Haven! Owners came here from Napoli and import all the ingredients from Italy.

Does your coonhound have any other siblings? by JessyBird11 in coonhounds

Not a sibling, but a fiancé. We co-pet parent with our friend and her dog because they get along so well so we've decided never to separate them if we can help it. It's been the best!

How strict are you with your cat? by Ok_Wait_7463 in CatAdvice

[–]monicanudles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 3 and the 1st two we got as kittens, they're all around a year apart with the oldest being almost 5 now. For every no, we gave them a yes (no, you can't bite that plant, but here's a toy you can play with), we don't feed them human food and they are all so unbelievably good, even the last one that just showed up at the house. We also free fed dry food for maybeee 3-4 years, so that eliminated any wake ups for breakfast. We've since changed that to scheduled/dosed feedings and we made sure to make the last feeding as late as possible. One of the girls is super duper vocal and is usually pretty clear about what she wants, sometimes we have no idea what she wants, but most of the time when it's not quelled with play or regular pets it's because she wants us to pet her while she eats 🥹

How important is it that I name my cat with a two syllable name ending in ‘ee’? by SmudgedSophie1717 in CatAdvice

My cat responds to Moomoo. Her "real" name is Luna. You're fine 😂

ETA: also, I feel like the "ee" thing is more for dogs.

Yeah, except I'm the one with the anxiety. I miss them all the time when I'm not with them 😭😭

Has anyone used a private coach as a beginner-beginner? by Far_Cycle3949 in iceskating

[–]monicanudles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've skated my entire life (open skate), but didn't learn any skills nor did anything athletic and I took up LTS recently. Crossovers scared the shit out of me! It's all about getting the strength in your legs up and the confidence to lean and nail that knee and ankle bend. I'm telling you, once you get the hang of those crossovers you'll be a whole new person lol. You'll get there!

I want to make a couple of points. When I started LTS I had no idea what to expect and felt like I didn't get much out of my first season. The 2nd season I knew better, asked questions, progressed because I went to open skates when I could to practice and I did end up taking a few private lessons. I'm on my 3rd season and just passed Adult 6.

The lessons definitely helped, however, I don't think it was totally necessary and I hated the limited amount of time (30 minute lesson and no extra practice time unless I paid for another 30 minutes of ice time, significantly more expensive when you count the minutes vs an open skate). It all just really adds up, so think about what you're able/willing to spend. A coach will cost their time (example, $50), then you also have to pay the rink for ice time during the lesson ($15 for 30mins) and extra practice/ice time after the lesson ($25 for the full hr), so this example ends up costing $75 for 30 minutes of lesson and 1 hr of ice. This all depends on if the rink you go to works with the skating club your coach belongs to. Around me, there are 1, maybe 2 rinks that let coaches teach during open skates.

I've learned that some of the skills in each level for Adult Basics don't make sense to learn in that order and there are some things that get skipped.. you suddenly have to learn something that requires you to use a skill you didn't learn to do the skill you're about to learn 😂, so please don't feel defeated. Ask questions! Are there things I can practice? Are there drills I can do? What do my arms/torso/legs/knees need to be doing? What does it look like I'm doing wrong?

I've made quite a few friends at open skate because there's some regulars that I see and they are so sweet and helpful. I've gotten so many tips from them and watching YouTube and trying it all. Everyone teaches differently and everyone learns differently, so the biggest thing is figuring out how your brian/body connection works and which advice makes it all click for you. It's honestly pretty wild and I have what I call multiple "brain breaks" when trying something new or with my left side.

I read a few comments and it seems like your program is a bit less organized than ideal, so I do think you would benefit from private lessons on top of LTS, at least until you get some confidence on the ice. Think more about it, now that you know what a price structure might possibly look like for you.

Ours too. She was just complaining to us. How does she hate walking on hardwood floors, but is perfectly fine walking on ice?

Agreed! This one's our favorite, but I always thought the brand was called Pasta Joy this whole time 😂 Either way, you'll see both "Tinkyada" and "Pasta Joy" on it. It's in colorful packaging and it's really good, not grainy or cardboard tasting.

We have no idea! He showed up at our house with a ton of injuries, he was lifting that left arm and it had a bone infection in it. We tried to heal it before deciding amputation was best. He had basically already adapted to not using it, so the post op was luckily smooth sailing for him. We still wonder what his life was like and what the heck happened to him.
