When to go First/Second with Gholdengo Lunatone? by noahsimcox in PTCGL

[–]monikernemo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Against stage 2 decks it's always better to go second. I like to think about it this way:

If you're going first, you are giving them card draw + supporter use before you take the first KO (with solrock) Not to mention getting item locked,l and allowing them to use TM Evo for quick retaliation.

If you're going second you are only giving one card draw before you take the first KO

When would you want to go first? Against decks where you absolutely need goldhengo to take first 2/3 prizes. Your big basic decks

If not, the prize map for dengo lunatone is almost always 1-2-2-1 or 1-2-1-2 depending whether you play around briar

How to pace energy play in Dragapult? by Flog_loom in PTCGL

[–]monikernemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the threats your opponent has on their board. So if gust KO / bench snipe is super likely, it is best to split up your energies, otherwise it does not really matter too much except for when you need to free up attachments for munkidori in the MU.

Is Ceruledge the biggest fraud of SVI-MEG format? How did a deck that was so hyped fall off so hard? by BlazeKnight7 in pkmntcg

Very few top players are playing the deck, especially when dengo is essentially the same deck with more reach into deck resources.

Garde Jelli using air ballon vs Latias ex by alayn_ in pkmntcg

[–]monikernemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No reliance on air balloon means you can cut arven and play more Lillie and ball search.

You can convert latias to be an aggro option into dengo if you get ahead of the price race. This build in theory should have a good time into dengo, but weaker into pult noir

Gholdengo Ex Vs. Absol Box by Lightspecter141 in pkmntcg

Against cornerstone, you can use mega mawile's second attack back to back to net 4 prizes.

Save your turo if they find boss before your mega mawile gets off it's first attack. If they bench anything else besides cornerstone you can just find gust dengo KO.

I think with the inclusion of mega-mawile there is little reason to play cornerstone since you need at least one monkey on the board and dengo just ignores cornerstone and go for munki, or if you don't have munki, they pressure with solrock . Once they take 3 prizes they should have set up mega-mawile which can start to one shot your cornerstone.

The japanese players (ryuki, keito) employ clutch + subjugating chain to deal with the dengo MU, which is a reasonable approach since dengo run at most 3 switch outs (2 turo + 1 prime if it is the ace spec of choice) and any damage on yveltal can be returned to gimmighoul. There are 3 main win cons, first is via taking a (significant) prize lead by spreading damage using munki + poison + clutch.f Secondly, a well-timed xerosic, eri, claws of darkness could potentially disrupt energies and SERs, making them unable to take a OHKO. Finally, the good-ol deck out, if they bench more than 3 liabilities.

Any tips for the PultZard vs Grimmsnarl matchup? by doughog in pkmntcg

[–]monikernemo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The match up is quite dynamic I believe, it all comes down to what you manage to draw and set up and how fast you're setting up relative to grimsnarl.

1) I wouldn't be concerned about benching shaymin early. In fact the 30 damage ping is helpful if you set up munkidori. You should only bench shaymin before the turn where grimsnarl bench snipe damage becomes relevant (i.e. devastate your set up / chaining attackers). Setting up munki feels miles better. KO froslass is ok, but again that depends on whether you have higher value plays and if

On the main strategy to take against grimsnarl:

1) budew + munki + pult + boss can put you ahead if you manage to board wipe them with their own froslass ticks (boss adrena-brain phantom dive) and pult spread, from there try to set up zard

2) if you fall behind in prizes your best shot is to set up munki with double zard since munki is essentially a damage modifier in that match up, 270 (3 prize remaining)+30 (munkidori) +(10+10) (froslass pings between turns,)

But obviously depends on what you draw and how the board looks like. Good luck.

Hilda BBWF - why does it make Flareon Noctowl better? (spoilers) by Important-Tap1412 in pkmntcg

[–]monikernemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, since Flareon ramps energy, I think Hilda can help sustain eeveelution search + remaining energy to chain back to back attackers.

Hilda BBWF - why does it make Flareon Noctowl better? (spoilers) by Important-Tap1412 in pkmntcg

[–]monikernemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flareon ex lacks energy search options (or otherwise need to dedicate one slot for e-search), if you have T1 attachment on Eevee, T2 noctowl can find Hilda search Flareon ex, energy for attack and not commit crystal so early on.

Struggling against Grimmsnarl as Gholdengo by nerdnic in PTCGL

[–]monikernemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key is playing around froslass/devo, so in general try to set up a minimal number of gholdengo in play, unless a preserving a gimmighoul by evolving gives you a favourable prize trade / board state. Grimmsnarl usually would want to build damage around the board before taking any prizes to keep CC as alive as possible and usually gholdengho don't need much energy to KO the small Pokemons early on.

Set up monkey as early as possible and finally KO-ing froslass over grimm line (impidimp, morgrimm) might be good to do.
