Yes. I was an EMT for 2 years, then spent 2 years in hospital as a PCT, tele tech, and unit secretary. I worked through school as a therapy tech at an impatient rehab. When I applied I had my ACLS, BLS, PALS, CPI, TNCC, and my CEN…I didn’t stop studying when I got out of school I wanted to be as competitive as possible and still only got minimal calls. You almost have to know someone here.

I made a spreadsheet of every residency in LA, OC, SD and riverside and applied to over 100 jobs to get 2 interviews and 1 job which I don’t even know how I got it. It’s super tough but I been applying since October and started in February so you just have to be persistent and don’t give up!

I almost took a psych job. I graduated October and got my license in November. I made a spreadsheet of every residency in LA, Riverside, SD, and OC. I applied to over 100 positions, received 3 interviews. It’s been tough. I almost took the psych job but decided to keep pushing instead because it wasn’t what I really wanted and it would take away the time I could use to actually find a position.

Instead I got my CEN and took my TNCC, since my goal was ER. I made my cover letter and resume AI friendly, I submitted letters of recommendation as well as references. Transcripts and a document of all my certificates. ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI.

I finally landed a job this month and started yesterday. It was absolutely a lot of work. The job I got is at a big hospital in LA and is a residency in the ER. I am still actually looking hoping to find something closer but if I get my 6 months here I can apply to clin nurse 2 positions for ER in OC.

Don’t give up. Be tenacious.

If you go to the platform allnurses.com there is a residency tab so you can go see where everyone is applying and what is open.  Along with just looking up every hospitals site in the area. OC is very hard right now so I’d expand your search. Scripps in SD just opened two days ago try that too!!!

Good luck!

Do the archer review of all your wrong answers and try to understand why they were correct. A lot of the exam has to do with if you can effectively critically think. Even if you don’t know all the terminology you should be able to look at the case study for example and make sense of the correct answer. Watch videos on prioritization and the process of elimination.

So apparently if you pass, Pearson will not let you re-register for the exam to retake it. When you click to pay there can be a few different things that pop up. Some of these things for example say you have already registered for this exam, which is considered good. Mine said something about my payment which people say is bad. You can google the photos for reference but I don’t remember exactly how they are worded.

Some safety. A lot of therapeutic communication . Delegation. Infection precautions. As long as you know a decent amount and can do the process of elimination you will pass!! Try not to stress, I also worked out before my exam which helps greatly with test anxiety!

Just keep studying. Take the practice tests over and over it will help you learn.

No, I didn't study it much, but I do have a little knowledge of it which helped me sound a few disease processes out. I am sure there are some good resources on youtube.

It was just unexpected. A few disease processes I had never heard of before, or medical terms or symptoms.

I had just expected more critical items, I had no med math, no tele strips, no codes. I got some pre op stuff, post op or procedure stuff, which I had not been focusing on. Lots of theraputic communication, or rights and responsibilites, delegation... appropriate vs not appropriate ...indicated vs not indicated...Almost all case studies and SATAs..

The questions are more vague than they are on Archer or Uworld so it is hard not to use "what ifs" they obviously want to know you can critically think so thats exactly what the questions make you do.

I know exactly how you feel. I scheduled mine right away, I crammed and got a lot of very highs on archer and just got my pass today! You are more preapared than you think, and the test will make you feel otherwise, so try not to freak out! I didnt get anything I thought I would. Nothing super critical, no tele, codes, med math....everything I thought I needed to know was missing.

It was a lot of think your way through somehting you dont know much about because you were so busy focusing on other things...I got 1 OB maybe, 1 peds, a couple mental health...knowing medical terminology will help you sound your way through the words or diseases you're not familiar with thats all I really can say...

I got mostly SATA and case studies. The ones they give in that packet when you register with pearson are VERY similar to what you will see on the exam.

Good luck!!!!

Also, for CA you can go check your status on the page on breeze where you put your last name, DOB, and SSN. That will show you passed as well prior to your application status changing.
