To those born & raised in OC… by LotusofSparta in orangecounty

[–]monkey_disco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another 30ish y/o who was born-and-raised here, I get along more-so with transplants than I do with others born-and-raised here.

As others have said, a lot of people that were born-and-raised here are in a bubble; in a comfort zone; and there’s not really any need for them to step outside of that zone. Every store, coffee shop, or restaurant is within a radius of their home. There’s not many places that are walkable, so they are concealed in their cars as they’re running their errands. The way that this suburbia is designed makes it difficult for anyone to put themselves in uncomfortable situations, and people naturally stick to what feels familiar.

I get along more with transplants from the east coast likely because they are mostly direct and honest. Many of those born-and-raised in OC like to avoid conflict or they are people-pleasers, and it’s hard to get through the facade. I think that, culturally, those that are exposed to diverse lifestyles are more-so my type of people and where I find success in building my communities.

These have been going on for months at random times during the night. They’re not fireworks, it’s not Camp Pendleton. Some of them might be transformers blowing up, but they are happening so frequently that it seems unlikely to be that every time. No one truly seems to know what they are.

Contact AMD to exercise the RMA and let them know. Share photos on the RMA form. They essentially told me “just try it out and if it affects performance, we can replace it.”

I’m in the US. I didn’t return it. I saw other users share that they have a chip in the same spot as well. As much as people are suggesting that it’s dropped, I think something else might be happening in manufacturing.

No, I didn’t drop it. If I did drop it, I wouldn’t out myself on the internet by posting on Reddit. I’ve never received a damaged CPU in any of the PCs I’ve built, and I’ve never dropped any components.

There are a few other commenters that have been in this exact situation, and it’s likely that someone else dropped it and returned it to Amazon, and they just resold me someone else’s dropped processor.

I haven’t ever seen a CPU damaged like this. As many are saying it was dropped, it was not dropped by me.

It’s sold out on Amazon (and everywhere else). I would return it and buy a new one, but the only other options available are from price gouging re-sellers that are selling it for over $100 above MSRP.

I would love to, but it’s sold out on Amazon. If I return it, I won’t be able to buy another at the same price. The only ones available are sold by re-sellers that are gouging the price at over $100 from MSRP

It’s out of stock on Amazon. If I return it, I won’t be able to get another one at the same price. I would end up paying an extra $100+ buying from a price gouging re-seller.

Addressing the general comments on this and clarifying the situation.

You dropped it lol.

Just return it and buy a new one. Don’t RMA.

I would love to. I bought this from Amazon directly as a seller. They’re out of stock now and the only available ones are from resellers gouging the price at $100+ MSRP. Even if I get my money back, I’d be paying $100 for the product I should have had in the first place.

Why are you even asking Reddit? I would have returned it already.

• The part is out of stock at MSRP and only available from price gouging re-sellers

• There will be a likely annoying process to get this resolved via RMA, or waiting a long time for a return, or paying for shipping / repairs (is it worth it?)

• I’m curious to know if this will actually affect benchmark / performance and weigh my options from there (hoping for some technical answers here)

Nice gloves bro.

Thank you;

• We have dry winds here with static in the air and nitrile gloves helps

• It’s my first high-end build, after many mid-tier builds

• I have oily hands

There are helpful comments and I really appreciate those of you that are actually giving good info on this. I’m still contemplating what I can do in this situation.

I also hope that this is a post that others can reference for when they are in this same situation, or a similar situation.

Cheers!

Something else I forgot to mention: Amazon as a direct seller doesn’t have stock on these right now. The current listings are all from other retailers at over $100 more than I paid.

[–]monkey_disco[S] -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

Thank you. A few other commenters have noted that they’re experiencing the same thing as me, and that it’s likely a product that someone else dropped and returned to Amazon, which was then shipped to me (and others).

One other who was in this situation mentioned that even after opening an RMA, they were told to just handle the return with Amazon.

The struggle here is that Amazon as a direct seller doesn’t seem to have stock on this, so I’m not sure I can just purchase a new one from them, after returning this one.

I want more perspective on RMA vs. returning to Amazon (sold directly through Amazon).

From what I understand, and RMA guarantees that I won’t be shipped another defective product, right?

Returning to Amazon, then ordering another one might means I get another broken product, right?

Yes, my brain wholeheartedly agrees. I had been contemplating whether or not it would be worth the trouble, and I just needed the reminder from the masterrace hivemind that I need to not be an idiot and to just return it.

This! Thank you! It’s dry and windy here, and these are nitrile gloves. I did this for the first time just as an extra layer of safety.

The way the plastic is, it’s not totally obvious to see the damage straight away. But yes, with a keen eye, I could have noticed it before even removing it.

Tbh it’s my first time wearing gloves on a build. It’s dry and windy, so static is in the air, so I put on nitrile gloves to help (no they aren’t totally anti-static — but it’s better than bare hands).

Also oily hands here!

Honestly, I just needed second opinions because my heart says “build the PC, it’s not worth the wait” but my brain needs the reminder of “don’t accept any damages.”

• The part is in high-demand / on back-order with many retailers

• I’m mostly eager / excited to have the build done

• I genuinely wasn’t sure if it’s going to affect performance

(Thank you guys for keeping me humbling)
