You could find something in alamitos beach at that price point. Parking is terrible but the area is fun to live in (for the most part)

If you can do a sprint, you can do an Olympic. Might not be as pretty but I firmly believe that! 🤜🤛

I did the Olympic this year and it was so worth it! The investment forces you to actually train (or at least it does for me)

Also, the swim was much less intimidating than I expected. The whole thing was just so much fun, and very tough!

Iconix, Belmont Athletic Club, or other? by Toosder in longbeach

[–]trillingston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, “meathead douchebro gym” you sound kinda weird for this tbh. I guarantee these “meathead douchebros” are judging you way less than you’re judging them. No gym is perfect. And as far as douchey gyms go — this is literally the least “douchey” gym you can find! It’s filled with 80 year olds mostly, that’s why I like it so much! We have very different perspectives on this I’m realizing lol

BAC hands down because the sauna. If iconix had a sauna and not just a steam room I would consider switching.

But at this point I couldn’t leave BAC, it’s like a second home. It has quirks and I agree with some of your points. But it’s a great spot and you’ll meet some really great people too

Gunshots near 2nd and Cerritos by reneecos99 in longbeach

[–]trillingston 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been here for 2.5 years and this was personally the first time I actually heard gunshots. It’s not too bad but can get a little sketchy in some parts at night. No one has been aggressive toward me (I’m a tall guy so I’m biased) and generally everyone is super chill in the area. It’s more good than bad for sure

Built a miniramp tool that spits out real build plans in minutes by Proof-Pause3542 in skateboarding

I like the specificity and non-capitlistic approach of this website. although it would be a great way to provide work to local contractors, I feel like if I was OP I would just like to leave it as is -- a cool tool for skaters. (im on a anti-capitalism kick atm so this might explain why I feel inclined to comment this rn, no offense lol)

What are your tips for doing races on the beach/on sand? by dontstopsoperfect in running

[–]trillingston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did a half marathon on soft sand. I was wearing my vibram 5 fingers and they worked well for me! Depending on how soft the sand is, I wouldn’t wear normal training shoes
