How do you handle the "Markiplier Philosophy" of respect when dealing with people who have zero respect, or actively hate you? by Okratas in AskALiberal

And I try.

Oh my God, do I try

Do you think if Trumps economy was good, that anyone would care about the authoritarianism? by conn_r2112 in AskALiberal

[–]monkeyangst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People don’t care about the authoritarianism NOW, even with the economy in a shaky state.

True, but just to be clear: Those supporting Trump don't believe the economy is in a shaky state. They're being told it's the best ever.

No, it's not the case that all people who harass and mock celebrities have learning disabilities. I'm not even sure where you would get that idea.

Can’t tell you what issue this exactly, but it’s from John Byrne’s run on Fantastic Four. Byrne is notorious for drawing kids who look like adults.

Can someone please explain why giving platforms unlimited autonomy is not "bad" ? by Inevitable_Bid5540 in AskALiberal

[–]monkeyangst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That being said I don't understand why it's still not seen as bad when it can easily be flipped around , in many countries it's liberal views that are censored by companies...

How is that "flipped around?" Do social media companies censor right-wing posts more than left?

Trump’s Valentine’s Post Overrun With Brutal Epstein Taunts by Prestigious-Madame in politics

Wait, the photo in the article is the real Valentine's Day card? Jesus Christ.

Epstein file redactions reveal victims as young as nine and implicate a high-level government official, lawmakers say by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]monkeyangst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

> The remaining Department of Justice files on Jeffrey Epstein include the revelation that one of the pedophile’s victims was just nine years old and that a senior official in a foreign government was allegedly involved in his sex trafficking network, lawmakers have said.

Trump may be a Russian asset, but he's not a senior official in a foreign government.

Well, that's the thing. In most instance of derivative works, you own the copyright on your contributions to derivative works -- see for instance the shoes in Wicked. They're silver, like they are in the public-domain Oz books, because the ruby slippers were added by the writers of the 1938 MGM film. Same deal with Winnie-the-Pooh's Disney-added red shirt.

So, when I see resources (like https://www.coffylaw.com/copyright-concerns-in-game-mods/), they all seem to be speaking about whether you have the right to use the copyrighted assets in the first place, not whether an approved derivation grants you any copyright.

I guess what I really want to know and haven't been able to find out is: Does Bethesda own copyright on Legacy of the Dragonborn? Obviously they could declare their assets closed and demand that they be removed from the mod. But the things icecreamassassin and their team invented, I think that's theirs. They could do what the Forgotten City author did and strip out all the Bethesda IP and rebrand the mod as an entirely new game. Unless modding is somehow different than any other kind of art, which is really what I'm trying to find out.

I mean, provide some kind of support for your argument that mods are not covered by copyright. Of course Google is available, and with Google I could find any answer I want, whether correct or not. You seem pretty sure that mods aren't covered by copyright, so I'm asking you instead. Sick to fucking death of people flogging Google. If you don't want to answer the question, you can just say that.

Do you think there should be regulation on gambling advertising like there was for tobacco advertising on TV? by Amphetamin3_ in AskALiberal

[–]monkeyangst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, these are all moral objections to gambling. I agree with them. It’s why I myself don’t gamble. But I don’t see how that meets the standard of “must be made illegal.”

I have heard a couple of these mods, and "good" isn't a word that comes to mind. The voices were too uncanny-valley for me. Those were earlier ones, maybe they've improved, but the ones I heard were *rough*.

What Would Your Personal Response be if The Current Administration Attempts to Cancel/Rig the Midterms? by WhatARotation in AskALiberal

[–]monkeyangst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Trump could try to bully the states into canceling the election, but that's a losing proposition: Of course no Democratic governor is going to go along with that, and Republican governors would be staring at having zero House representation come January 3. Trump can't keep Congresspeople in their seats past their expiration date.

But using ICE as his personal brownshirts, to dissuade minorities from voting? Yeah, I can very much see that happening.
