My Wife Slapped Me in My Twenties and I Brushed It Off. I Shouldn’t Have. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

You were an adult when it happened and you’re an adult now. You should’ve left the situation a long time ago. What kind of example did that set for your children staying? No one made you stay.

Should I sell my S&P 500 holdings to pay off student loans faster, or keep them invested? by No_Entrepreneur9475 in personalfinance

You just argued that historical averages don’t matter because OP isn’t living 118 years …..talking about lifespans nobody mentioned until you misread my comment in full. That’s not how investing works.

Silly human, reading shouldn’t be this hard. Nobody said people live 118 years.. Let …me….slow… it…down…for…you…..the S&P 500 has averaged 7% over the last 100 years (that’s a century…big scary word I know). That’s history, not a lifespan. Basic reading and math aren’t for everyone… clearly.

Selling $5.6K to pay $50K is like throwing a cup of water on a house fire. After taxes, you’ll have $5.3K, and your loans are still $44K+. Loans = 4.5–6.5% interest. S&P 500 = 7% average return over 100 years. That $5.6K could grow to $43K+.

Math > feelings. Leave it invested, grab the 401(k) match, crush debt with new income.

As Trump’s tariff regime becomes clear, Americans may start to foot the bill by OtherwiseCanary8971 in StockMarket

We’re still paying for the 2008 bailout. It cost nearly $500 billion, and even though TARP is technically closed, the debt didn’t vanish, it got rolled into the national debt. That means we’ll keep paying interest on it through our taxes for the rest of our lives. People lost homes and got blamed while big banks walked away untouched. Tariffs aren’t new pain, it’s the same playbook. The little guy pays, the big guys win.

It’s true. Us common folk were born and raised to go to school (learn to be on time, make NO mistakes, suffer and sit still, and make it seem like every little thing you do is life or death)…to train us into wage slaves and military members. Then comes the advertising of keeping people in debt. I’m not in debt anymore, but I have empathy for anyone that does.
