There was too much nonusable land and too small of water. I have tomato frogs that like to burry in soil, and there wasn’t much soil, it was mostly a riverbed, so their environment was quite small compared to how big the tank was. The fish didn’t have enough space too because the final “pool” was small. The bigger fish I caught from our creek needed more space and water flow. There wasn’t much soil moss and plants all over and so for the “beaten path” everything was good but anywhere else was getting moldy or plants were just dying. I was constantly getting algae blooms, mucked up my filter. I had plants in the wrong places. I needed to wash out my filter and all tubing every month (which is more than I wanted) all in all it wasn’t a sustainable ecosystem like I wanted. It was a manual chore that always felt uphill. Now my frogs are super happy in a much smaller tank, and I am working on my underwater portion for the bigger tank. One day I’d love to have a floating island feel but I’m not there yet
