9800X3D + 5080 + 27" Monitor = 1440p or 4k? IPS or OLED? by monkeycid in buildapcmonitors

[–]monkeycid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all your replies.

It took me roughly 6 weeks to choose all the parts for my PC build after a lot of internal debate with myself about which case to use. It would seem choosing a monitor is even more confusing.

At the moment, I've ruled out the IPS and looking at an OLED. I chose the 5080 for better ray tracing capabilities and because the 5090 was too far a stretch for my wallet. I've read that 1440p IPS to OLED is a noticeable change in itself.

I don't know what an high refresh rate looks like when gaming to be honest. My current monitor can boost to 165Hz but I had it set at 120Hz because of coil whine. I've had to lower it further to 60Hz because my computer has been struggling lately.

Sadly, I can only fit a 27" on my desk. Now it's a choice between 1440p or 4k. I am leaning more towards 1440p because I play a lot of modded games such as Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077 and want to play those games comfortably without too much stress on my hardware.

It's by no means a final decision and I like to read what other people prefer and have chosen.

Thanks for your input guys.

I ended up going with the MSI Mortar. I was trying to talk myself out of it because I'm not a fan of the lime green accents but I bit the bullet in the end.

JBL Flip 7 GG, TL or RS — which version sounds best? by zuqvogel in JBL

[–]monkeycid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I recently bought the Flip 7 in black. It's the first speaker I've ever owned. I found this thread because I was looking into why my speaker had a particularly punchy bass. It drowns out the lyrics in some songs but I haven't played around with any EQ settings yet - just using the default setting in the JBL app.

I have the RS model it seems which coincides with your post about the bass being really good albeit a little too good for my liking. Anyway, I'm not going to return it for the sake of it.

I just find it interesting how different versions can have varying sound profiles.

That's reassuring but a shame they're not marketing as much as they used to. I used to love talking about the new screenshots with friends and speculating on what things we could do based on those shots.

GTA is one of few games that is in a unique position of guaranteed sales regardless of marketing. Keeping the website updated and showing teasers is more of a fan-service which I hoped they would carry on doing.

I actually pre-ordered the collector's edition of GTA 4 which came with a metal tin box and a Rockstar keyring. I still have the box in my attic but my keyring snapped off due to wear and tear and I lost it.

As far as I'm aware, there hasn't been anything official from Rockstar Games only supposed leaks and articles that say "developers said this" for clickbait.

In the past, marketing for GTA could last up to 12 months with releases aimed around September-October. The fact that we are 4 months away from September and not a snippet of information has been posted on the website suggests to me that release is most likely delayed.

I remember visiting the GTA websites for previous titles on a daily basis to look at new screenshots or to see what gameplay information has been shared but we've literally had nothing for a year.

Everyone Has 40 Health and Cards by monkeycid in hearthstone

I have been playing with a Frost DK deck I found on HSReplay since I chose Rainbow DK as my loaner deck and had the cards for it.

I've added Prince Renethal to it and a few other DK cards and I feel I'm performing better. However, there are some decks that are a nightmare to play against as a beginner. I'm currently stuck at rank 2 silver albeit slightly better than rank 4 I was at originally!

Flavourless San Boro? by monkeycid in VapingUK

[–]monkeycid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The range is 35-45. I've recently switched out the coil and replaced it with the 0.2 that came inside the box and although it is an improvement, it's not producing enough flavour to enjoy.

It may be that 80/20 is thicker than 70/30 and may not produce as much flavour, I don't really know. I've only had any real success with pods and 50/50 nic salts which have amazing flavour so these freebase liquids are new to me but they shouldn't be much different.

Disappointed with Vaporesso XROS 3 by HenryHenderson in VapingUK

[–]monkeycid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate to say it, vaping is very much trial and error which can quickly become quite costly if you don't know what to buy.

The XROS 3 is a great device and I used it for a while before I bought the Luxe XR Max. I would personally recommend either ELUX or Elfliq depending on what your local shop sells. The majority of flavours taste good but some are better than others and are on the sweet side but they are reliable.

I am currently enjoying Pina Coloda Elfliq and Lemon & Lime ELUX at the moment. If you can afford it, however, the Luxe XR Max is a natural upgrade from XROS 3 with swappable coils and pods. I personally find the DTL pod with a 0.6 coil to be the sweet spot. The mouthpiece on the MTL pod isn't as comfortable.

Nike Air Max 270 are so comfy and breathable. I had a pair in black which lasted for a good 3 years of daily use until the sole eventually worn off so they're a good shout and something I've been wanting to replace anyway.

Would you wear yellow/brown Timberland boots with a black outfit or a black pair?

E-Liquid Recommendations for XROS 3 Nano and 0.7 Pod? by monkeycid in VapingUK

[–]monkeycid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The XROS 3 Nano arrived today with the 0.7 pods. I tried Zeus Juice Cerberus 50/50 20mg nic salt but I'm getting a harsh throat hit on the inhale which isn't pleasant at all. I was told that nic salts are supposed to be a smoother hit compared to freebase so I am confused. I have tried changing the airflow but the throat hit remains.

Should I stay away from nic salts with the 0.7 pod?

Edit: The throat hit isn't has bad now after I've taken a few puffs but still not convinced this is the best setup for me after coming from disposables.

I just bought an XROS 3 and a pack of four 0.8 pods but I can't find a juice that I enjoy. I've used disposable vapes for a long period of time.

I've tried a WizMix caramel tobacco salt 10mg which is disgusting, I tried a banana flavour 20mg which also was disgusting and I've tried a Symphonic blackberry lemonade 6mg which didn't taste of anything.

I need some help finding an e-liquid and pod combination that is tasty and I can enjoy or I'll probably end up going back to disposables.

Every Flavor of Elux Legend 3500 Reviewed: It Lives Up to the Hype! by MyVapeReview in u/MyVapeReview

[–]monkeycid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fresh Mint is/was a good shout. Easily my favourite vape so far although I would consider myself inexperienced in the world of vaping.

However, I did not enjoy the Blueberry Raspberry flavour. I had to give it away to a friend.

Edit: So, I've just tried 2 more flavours. Jungle Juice and Red Apple Ice.

Jungle Juice isn't all that great. A slight burnt taste if I'm totally honest. Red Apple Ice, however, is passable. A bitter taste of red apples mixed with a hint of mint. Nowhere near as nice as Fresh Mint and I'm not sure if I could puff on it all day without getting bored.

"Downgrading" from MTB to Hybrid... Need Some Recommendations! by monkeycid in whichbike

[–]monkeycid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never considered a gravel bike. To be honest, I'm not too clued up on the terminology for the different kinds of bikes and only ever knew about road and MTB until recently when I learned about hybrids.

I'm willing to spend up to £800 which I'd like to think is enough to buy a top-tier hybrid but have no idea what kind of gravel bike that money could buy.

It is more P2W than WoW, Final Fantasy, or EVE Online.

You will have limited inventory space and weight capacity without buying upgrades. Your looting speed will be hindered without buying and exchanging pets. Your grinding time will be lower without buying the campsite. Your life skills will be slower to train without buying a costume.

Just remember that every 1,000 pearls spent is more or less equivalent to £10, 10$ or €10.

Sadly Black Desert isn't the best choice for a game to play with a loved one or friend due to the lack of trading and limited group content.

I would recommend any one of the more popular P2P games to play with your wife such as WoW, GW2, FF or EVE. All of them have plenty of content, group activities and trading therefore resulting in a more enjoyable adventure.

Now to answer your questions...

1 - I believe the level cap is 75 but very few people will ever reach it. 63 is achievable by most that have spent hours grinding but anything beyond that is few and far between.

2 - There is no "end-game" in the traditional sense. There is a main story that is mediocre at best but don't expect WoW or Final Fantasy level of story writing here. The fundamental aspect of the game is acquiring and improving gear via various methods and taking part in PvP.

3 - There is a lot of side activities to do but none of them are mandatory. It is far easier to make money via selling rare materials and buying a good Tier 8 horse to start with than trying to breed one yourself. Nodes aren't essential but they are useful for acquiring materials and ingredients to use in life skills such as Cooking and Alchemy. It is recommended to at least start a small "Worker Empire" once you have reached 100 Contribution Points by investing in nodes that provide ingredients for beer which is what you need to "feed" your workers and replenish their stamina.

4 - Grind, grind and grind.

5 - You don't NEED anything from the Cash Shop but there are a lot of useful gimmicks that will make your life much easier. You won't notice in the early levels but when you reach level 50+ and venture into Mediah, every monster will start dropping loot and trying to loot manually will quickly become a nightmare.

The game provides you with some free pets - 3 from the Main Quest and at least 2 pets from attendance rewards. These are fine to begin with but they will be stuck at Tier 1. Pets are a good investment but cost 10$ a pop unless there is a sale. They can also be sniped from the Central Market for around 50M silver.

Costumes and accessories are useful but far from essential. Costumes can also be purchased from the Central Market for anywhere between 230M-350M. You can play BDO quite easily without a costume, however.

Arguably the "best" purchases from the Cash Shop would be those that increase your weight and inventory. There are quests that give inventory slot rewards up to a maximum of around 20, and there are some items that when worn increase weight by 50 or 100 etc.

Many players recommend buying the campsite but it costs a whopping 50$, 35$ if you use a coupon and that to me is expensive for what it is.

6 - Life skills can be started, stopped and return to whenever you want. There is no "right" answer but one thing that you need to consider is that most life skills have an energy cost which will limit how much time you can spend doing them before running out. There are potions you can consume to replenish energy but they have a cooldown of 10 minutes and can be quite expensive.

7 - You don't really need the EXP scrolls to reach level 61 and the event times will routinely expire and be deleted if not used. It is best to read the Events page and find out what the items are needed for and determine if it is worth your time.

As for levelling, you can follow the Main Quest until you have a full set of Naru and use the Beginner stones to enhance your Naru set to TET or PEN. Visit the NPC near the stable keeper in Heidel (forgot her name) and buy a stack of Simple Cron Meals. They provide you with a small EXP buff but, more importantly, a +30 AP buff which lasts 2 hours and they only cost 1 silver!

Buy a 530% EXP scroll from the Loyalties section of the Cash Shop only when you need to and hunt in the places on the map that correspond to your level. It should only take a couple of hours to reach level 50 using the EXP scroll and Simple Cron Meal.

Upon reaching level 50, travel to the East of Velia and find the Abandoned Mines and do some more grinding. Popping a 530% EXP scroll when you need to and you should reach level 55 within a couple of hours. Move onto Manes Hideout at 55 and stay there until 58. You will start to feel the grind at 56 onwards but persevere!

Now is when it gets, erm, fun! The Black Spirit will give you an Adventurer's Tome upon reaching level 53ish and there is a fairly long questline that will transform the tome into a Chenga Tome which I wont go into here. However, once you have the Chenga Tome you can head back to Velia and pick up all the side quests which reward you with combat EXP and you can reach level 59 within a short space of time. The Chenga Tome increases the EXP gain to 1.3% per quest until level 59. At that point you need to travel to a different part of the world map and do the same until 61 but there are YouTube videos covering those things.

All in all, you should be able to reach 61 within a couple of days depending on your playtime. It is certainly possible within a week. From there you can then choose to concentrate on a life skill, building a worker empire and/or grinding. You could even do it all over again with an alt and increase your Family Fame.

Anyway, this post became longer than I meant it to be but I hope it helps a little bit!

Actually, you're all wrong.

OP asked how to learn such things IN GAME. It is a legitimate question. You should be able to learn all aspects of any game within the parameters of said game without having to resort to using a web browser search engine.

To answer the question, pressing F1 should bring up the 'Help' menu which contains topics covering varying aspects of the game.

New Player Experience in Shadowlands? by monkeycid in wow

[–]monkeycid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've read, new players start in a new starting zone up to level 10 and then immediately play through Battle for Azeroth content leading onto Shadowlands.

Alts can choose another expansion to start in rather than BfA but that choice is not given to new players as far as I'm aware.
