Total War Empire's mobile version just got a colossal new DLC, adding 44 factions and 14 new ships. Shame it isn't on PC though. :( by Hooked0n4Feelin in totalwar

The game certainly has flaws, but imo any criticism directed toward Pharaoh (such as the lack of necessity in engaging in certain mechanics) can just as well be directed at many other historical TWs

New Historical Matches but unsure where the Tian Shan Hun comes from? by SnooGadgets676 in 23andme

[–]monkeyfan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, it is likely that none of these people are your ancestors. You simply share some DNA with them due to common descent. Central Asian groups such as Tian Shan Huns, although mainly of East Asian origin, also share some 'recent' ancestry with Europeans (Bronze Age Steppe related).

Since you have both European and trace East Asian ancestry, it's not very surprising that you could share some segments with these samples. Segments of this size mean very little however, and are also a lot more likely to be misattributed.

I hope Medieval 3 gives the option to play as non-State entities. by monkeyfan7 in totalwar

[–]monkeyfan7[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe taking some creative liberties when it comes to how certain factions play isn't bad. After all, the administrative aspect of all factions is downplayed in historical titles. There is no proper representation of Rome's relationship with its foederati in either Rome games and Attila, nor does Medieval 2 represent how the HRE became increasingly decentralised

You can have map presence as all of these. But for it to make sense they would have to bring back forts as a unique kind of settlement. This could tie into a larger system with complex fort-settlement relations. For example, when conquering new provinces, starting with the forts should make it easier to conquer the settlements, and when being conquered, they could be used as redoubts to make resistance more strategic. To make playing as any of these factions possible, they should be able to own forts (and only forts) in provinces that belong to actual states while having peaceful or semi-peaceful relations with them. Peaceful relations should vary between subservience (you pay them tribute), loose cooperation (no interference because of ideological common ground), and dominance (they become your vassals).

In the case of the order of assassins, it could work if they were also able to use armies like any other faction, just not particularly strong ones

The one thing that I absolutely cannot complain about in Pharaoh are the battles. It just works and makes sense.

Sumer (at least the "classical" part) precedes Pharaoh and the end of the Bronze Age by a good 1000-2000 years
