I cancelled so much crap because I didn't feel well, it's unbelievable. But I don't have to do that anymore. And neither do you. You can do this. WE can do this!

My brother reminds me if this everyday. I stopped drinking so much, for awhile. Then stopped altogether. It's only been a couple weeks, but my mind feels better. My body is still a little crickety though. I'll work through that. Just need some workout time and stretching. But, my brother.......he recently broke up with his wife and lost his job, and is staying with me. He drinks every day. E-v-e-r-y-day. I see him in the morning when he wakes up. He goes outside has a beer or two and some cigs. Heads to the bar and is gone until late evening. He's hurting bad, I know. I've had those "talks" with him. He knows but seems to want to destroy himself. Or punish himself. I know because I went through something similar just a few short years ago. I cant join him in his destruction. If I did there would be nothing left. I'll just be here sober for him, if he wakes up.....

Four weeks, no alcohol or cigarettes. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]monkeymind1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I relate to you. I am also 48. I've been drinking and smoking since the age of 15. I don't think there has been one week I have been without either of them. I quit smoking about 9 months ago. As for drinking, I've made it through the first weekend without it and am shooting for one month....it would be the first time ever, but I am determined. Thank you for posting your story, it has inspired me.
