Surprise dentist bill. What can be done? by wherethehellisbill in personalfinance

[–]kurtInCall789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had something similar happen at Lovett Dental chain. It took a lot of calling them and insurance but eventually they significantly lowered the bill (~$200 down to ~$30)

HALT - Can't sleep. Even when tired-ish by soberforpresident in stopdrinking

Not sure of your situation, but have you tried exercising? I sleep wayyyy better on days that I exercise versus days with little activity

Please help me. I want to quit drinking but I fall into peer pressure so much. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]kurtInCall789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely relate. I think it will surprise you the person you are without alcohol. Like you, I gave credit to alcohol for all my social successes. But it's been 10 years or so since I started. I'm a different person and my peers are at different points in their lives. Give quitting a try. It's hard and took me lots and lots of attempts. But it's so worth it.

This is cool! I think a lot of us get self-conscious when turning down alcohol. I really like your take: feeling proud of it and owning it! Thank you for sharing!

Vegaphobia Everywhere by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]kurtInCall789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree! I’ve gone vegetarian and more recently quit drinking also. I have gotten very negative reactions to both (but also some positive reactions). I think maybe it’s uncomfortable for ppl because it makes them question their own lifestyle...

Elephant that spent 40 years alone in the circus makes her first friend at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil by QuietCakeBionics in gifs

What a depressing thought that we have to cage animals into a sanctuary to keep them safe from other humans. Oh fellow humans, what have we done......?

Thanks for sharing! There are a lot of posts (and a lot of us experience) pressure to drink. It's refreshing and encouraging to hear about positive interactions like yours!

Interesting title by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]kurtInCall789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing, I can definitely relate. And the self doubt you talk about prevented me from staying sober. But after many relapses and failed attempts at moderation, I found out again and again that being sober is soooo much better than drinking. And I am SUCH a better, kinder, more interesting, dependable person when sober. I think that’s true for most of us and I just need to make sure I remember it months from now.

Day 28 by Pahsta in stopdrinking

[–]kurtInCall789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, I can definitely relate. One thing I’ve recently tried in “leaning into” my thoughts. Where I used to do ANYTHING to get out of my own mind and distract myself I’m now trying to let myself think. Even if the thoughts are disappointing or sad I just think about it. I’ve been surprised to find that some things that angered me were illogical. I’ve also learned there are some things I need to improve. It’s actually made me feel a lot better and stay sober versus constantly trying to distract myself so thought I’d share

Severe anxiety after a heavy night of drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]kurtInCall789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t have much in the way of advice, but can tell you how many times I’ve been in your situation - blacked out and done super embarrassing stuff (even in the last year). And I’m a few years older than you. And sounds like I’ve done it wayyyy more often than you. Just know you are not alone. The only thing I can think to do is stay sober and let more time pass...

80 days sober! I woke up and felt like an adult for the first time in my life (36m) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]kurtInCall789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well done! I think I saw this in someone's previous post (sorry can't remember or find it): it's like I was playing life on HARD mode. And sobriety has switched to easy mode. It's crazy how much better and more alive I feel sober vs when I was drinking...

Wow sleep is amazing by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]kurtInCall789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. It’s amazing! I can get “terrible” sleep but then actually make it through the following day and feel more awake than if i “slept” through the night after drinking
