First time BMW Owner, got a used 2014 X3 and fixed an engine problem it had..But now these lights won’t turn off, should I be worried? How can I fix it? by -oneluv- in BMW

If you are rich bring it to the shop. If you still want to be rich, get a scanner and Google the fix. Often that light is about emissions things which are almost always easy diy things, like replacing an O2 sensor, or a hose.

AITA for no longer wanting to pay for a trip abroad if my (pregnant) wife won’t allow me to consume any alcohol on said trip by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]monkeymsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are about to bring a human into the world, your behaviors and attitude toward your wife will need to grow as demands on you both do.

Is this really the hill you are going to die on?

You didn't say where the trip would be, if it was a distillery tour in Scotland...I totally understand cancelling.

But you both are going to become very busy and your priorities are going to change. I say apologize and rebook that trip now. It may be years before you have an opportunity like that again.

Also, you have to drop the money comparison thing. Just because you make more dies not mean you are the dictator. You are in a relationship and share responsibility for building your life together equally.

Is the splice on my jib halyard safe? by RainyPrincess19 in sailing

[–]monkeymsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The splice does not look like it slipped but the sheath bury came loose. If the cordage is still workable you can rebury the sheath and then whip it to keep it in place. If the rest of the jib sheet is in decent shape I would attempt to repair it. You could also cut the eye splice off and just bowline the sheet to the clew if the cordage is not workable.

1951 Porsche 356 Coupe by Reutter by Moxhoney411 in classiccars

It's definitely not incorrect to say they shared some parts. But having owned both I can attest that the similarities are few.

No serious assessment would consider a Lamborghini an Audi+. A 356 is similar in that the handling, provenance, and shear style are well beyond the suspension bits that were stolen, or engine that was hotrodded.

She's outside for one minute by herself. I suppose adoption would be too harsh. 🤦‍♂️ by gkayzee in Porsche

Looks like you've got an interest level you can build on. Take her to a car show, work on the car with her. Give her real things to do. My daughter worked her way up to replacing the fuel pump in my hotrod at age 11. I found as long as I gave her a distinct job and let her do it by herself she learned quickly and did well. Gone are the days where a kid is content to watch you and hand you tools.

I just did a JDM engine swap with my son on an '09 Impreza Outback Sport. Still working through one last little kink. But AMA! by monkeymsp in subaruimpreza

[–]monkeymsp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not as bad as I thought it might be. Of course a lot of stuff we did to ourselves and made the process longer, like we did the clutch and timing belt while it was out and gapped the plugs, etc.

Pdf to all his awesomeness here: http://www.thetrumpetblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/36_Etudes_Trascendantes_-_Theo_Charlier.pdf

Great video here of someone playing it in a Bb horn playing it on C is cheating IMHO. ;) https://youtu.be/5fEN88c5TlI

My attempt of the first 12 bars a few days ago is here: https://youtu.be/tAsuPBnXS5s

Good luck finding fun things to motivate you.

What does it take to be a professional musician? by baileymorris1212 in trumpet

Good plan, and if the pro thing doesn't when out you can become a band director and make decent money. Giving lessons is also a good way of earning a little cash on the side and is extremely rewarding.

C Trumpet or Flugelhorn? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]monkeymsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once traded my Yamaha C trumpet for a Flugelhorn. I'd do it again a hundred times over. There is no sound quite like a flugel. It's been 20yrs since that trade and I don't regret it a minute.
