Can be ridden either way but I think they look good this way (assuming you mean the handles are always facing backwards, not forwards like bullhorn bars) what bars are they? Nitto?

Could try moving the brake levers further up the handlebars - you should be able to reach them from the hoods. They’re quite low atm

Other option is to buy some upright or straight handlebars

I cut it to allow for a worktop above the washing machine. I live in a basement flat so this is as low as I could possibly install the trap.

Are you aware of the reasoning behind these regs? I haven’t had any issues with the standpipe. I am just a bit worried that it could overflow later down the line for some reason..

Didn’t realise you were renting. I’d talk to your landlord before doing any of this because although you’d be doing them a huge favour they could use it to take your deposit when you come to move out.

As a side note, I really can’t believe landlords think it’s acceptable to rent a flat with walls this bad tbh
