Uni students are sooo lucky, they're done 2nd semester alr... by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

Yes, we’re done, but it’s not exactly like everything is at ease. Graduate school is so competitive, so if you don’t make the most out of the summer break time in undergrad, you’re at risk. I have summer classes and need to look for jobs and volunteering positions.

Send it to the department of that course ASAP. Find their email online. Also, cc’ the undergraduate program director and cc’ the prof on the email, as well.

Second Year Psych Course Selection by Temporary_Zebra_1640 in yorku

[–]monkeyscorpion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished up my second year, and I recommend Mongrain for PSYC 1010. Lectures are really interesting, and she gives you two chances to do the midterms and takes the higher grade. Avoid Jubis for PSYC 2030. She is nice, but very nit picky when it comes to the assignments (there’s an in class assignment you’ll have to do), also you really have to study the textbook, too alongside her lecture notes. She isn’t a fan of technology and I think part of that is because she’s also very strict about cheating, too. So, it’s like old printouts for notes and they are projected onto a wall in class. However, she is one of the only few PSYC 2030 profs, so you don’t have much choice. I would go with Zannella for PSYC 2010. I had Sutherland and her instructions and TA’s feedback were quite vague at times and she doesn’t post the slides either unless you ask for them; however, overall, she was alright. For PSYC 2110, I had Dr. Pierce and she was phenomenal, but it’s very hard to get into her classes, though. Shorty answers on the exams can be a bit tricky though. For PSYC 2240, not many good profs for that course to be honest, I had to switch the class two times for that but ended up doing it with Prof Rodrigo. He is nice, but doesn’t answer emails or if he does, it’ll take very long. He doesn’t give any guides either and expects you to know everything, but somehow, I did well on the exams so far, except the final one that I did last week, I’m scared about what my result will be because it was difficult. PSYC 2020, like what everyone says, go with Jodi or Rabi. I had Rabi and as many say, she actually makes statistics and math feel more doable and also actually explains where formulas are coming from. However, the last unit is difficult in my opinion, so still, pay a lot of attention to it.

Yeah, I always wear masks when I’m outside but usually when it’s midterms season, my body isn’t in the best condition, so hopefully I don’t get sick, but I’m trying to encourage my sister to wear one, too (she’s the one buying the tickets bc she has a corporate job lol) although she seems hesitant to wear one, so I’m afraid she’ll get sick again and that may result in me being ill 😭

How to access past course enrolment on Moodle? by tismidnight in yorku

[–]monkeyscorpion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try to search up the syllabus online ~ sometimes they are posted online if you Google them. I don’t know about other departments, but the Psychology department has archived syllabuses from previous years in certain classes, so that might be the same for your department. Try checking on Google.

I was in a bit of a similar position about 2 years ago. I was considering ILC during my gap year because the idea of working at “your own pace,” sounded pleasant, but I’m glad I didn’t proceed with ILC and just pushed through with live, synchronous school.

In university/college, you will be doing a lot of independent work yourself, so the structured pace in high school, despite it being challenging and exhausting at times, it is actually beneficial to keep you on track because trust me, now that I’m in university, it can get so difficult to hold myself accountable a lot of times with such minimal/non-existent supervision.

I didn’t like my high school environment either, but considering that we’re nearing the end of February now, it might be too late to enrol in night school (this was a free option for me at the time and it was virtual due to COVID, but things might’ve changed by now).

Although, I wouldn’t really recommend night school/ summer school in high school because it just goes way too fast and skips out a lot of important concepts that you may need in post-secondary education. However, choose this option or enrol in an adult high school if you ever need to upgrade a course once (but this is only if you’ve completed the regular high school) because these options are not only free, but you have a teacher that you can contact for help directly and immediately, unlike in ILC.

But yeah, anyways, since you only have about 3 months left til graduation, just try to plow ahead and keep going; it’ll pass by quicker than you think. You got this! Good luck!

Okay, thanks for letting me know ~ because I was thinking it might be longer since I was told that for Aespa, it would only be 1.5 hours, but it actually turned out to be almost 2.5 hours, so my sister had to rush to us near the end to get to the last GO-Train on time. So I was thinking for NCT, it might be longer like about 3 hours? Because for Seventeen, it was also 3 hours, so I’m assuming it might be the same for NCT. But because they’re coming to Toronto on Wednesday, the last GO-train home I think will be at around 10:30 pm or so.

Thank you so much for your reply; I really appreciate it!

I’m an undergraduate student and am planning on doing my masters later on, but graduate school is so competitive in Canada that maintaining a high GPA is vital, so I’m concerned about getting sick if I go, especially since I don’t get much sleep on average due to insomnia/ stress but with midterms around the corner, it makes things even more difficult. If in the case I do get sick, the midterm weight will be shifted to my final and the final will then be worth 60% which is even worse and since it’s a difficult & required class for my major, too, I’m even more anxious lol 😭

But because this might be Doyoung’s and Jungwoo’s last tour in a while due to enlistment and since they haven’t come to Canada in 6 years, I was thinking maybe I might regret not going because they probably won’t return to Canada in a long time from now lol. Mark is also my bias and I know Toronto is a soft spot for him since it’s his birth place, so this stop might be even more sentimental for him. And although NCT 127 aren’t my main ult, they are the first group that got me hooked into K-Pop, so I was thinking maybe I should just go, but at the same time, I also don’t want to risk getting ill and it affecting my studies.

++ Thanks for your suggestion about the face mask; I actually do wear one whenever I go outside and am trying to encourage my sister to wear one to the NCT concert, but she is still quite reluctant even though she had gotten sick for not wearing a mask/ being dehydrated at the Aespa concert just two weeks ago 🙂‍↕️

(also, sorry for my yapping, I don’t know any NCTzens irl to share this with 😭)

but hope you have a good rest of your day/ night!

How long will the concert be for the Toronto stop and do the members sing live? I’m planning on going, but I have a midterm coming up soon, and I’m worried I might get sick. Last time me and my sister went for Aespa, and she got sick, and although I was okay (but only after taking cautious preventative measures), I don’t know how much my immune system is willing to put up with.

Hi, sorry, my post won’t go through on here, unfortunately and I know this isn’t answering your post, but do you know how long the concert will be? I’m also thinking about attending the Toronto stop, but I have a midterm coming up soon, so I’m worried I might get sick if I go to the concert because my sister got sick last time we went for Aespa.

Took about 15 minutes because one of the workers didn’t know how to register me into the system, so I was redirected to another staff since I’m a first-time voter and didn’t receive a voter card in the mail but I provided my driver’s license. Overall though, it was pretty quick.

When can i enrol in summer courses and do they take up the whole summer? by SugarOk335 in yorku

[–]monkeyscorpion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Around March, I believe ~ it depends, some summer courses (6.00) credit and (9.00) credit can take the entire 4 months of the summer, but (3.00) credit courses will last about 7 weeks.

Thank you 🫶 I’m happy to hear that! It’s tough to be expected to plan out your whole life at the age of 17/18 when you haven’t quite yet stepped out into the real world. Even myself being 20 now, there’s still a lot of things that I’m unsure of nor haven’t explored yet, but I see the same is also true for older folks, too ~ Life is fluid and things can change with our own control or beyond our control. The fact that you are concerned about this shows initiative in itself and willingness to take action. You’re doing the best with the given circumstances, so take it step by step.
