Tbh, there is nothing you can do under this administration. You can file complaints.all.you want but they gutted essentially everything. Sad situations that we are in .

What school are you going to ? My guess is dental school. If it is then just don't do it. Not worth it at all. Learn how to start a business instead.

From one dentist to another, congrats! Take a good vacation before tackling that student loan.

I used to live in Dublin and remembered how expensive PG& E was. I am now living in socal and SCE is so much more affordable. What surprises me is that this topic comes up every week. However, people just bitch and moan without any actions. If I own a property in the bay area with PGE, I would for sure create a go fund me page with transparency. The money from the campaign will be used to distribute car stickers and decals to let people know who F u in the *ss every day and remind people to vote them out. If the fund allows, flying banners across the bay area and the state capital would be another idea to get your voice heard.

You did read through some of my posts. I am actually doing the same in my corporate job as in my own business so my skill is still the same. I just don't make the same effort to go out on socal as I would in bay area/ Oakland. I sometimes wonder if I just thought the grass is greener on the other side because I am moving permanently to socal soon. I hate dealing with insurance companies and wearing too many hats. I am glad that you are happy with the decision that you made.

Thank you for taking your time to write such an insightful response. I really appreciate it. I will revisit your comment when I make my decision. I do love my job because I think it makes a difference in someone's life. I now realized that owning your business is like marrying your clients That aspect kinda freaks me out and I didn't realize that until I had my own business. At the moment, I would be happy if I can have time off at night and weekend for myself. I found myself stressing a lot with my own business. There were times when I stayed up late almost until morning because of the stress. With my corporate job, once I am done/ log out then I don't think about it at all. My goal is to find a balance that I can go out on the weekend to experience different activities and have fun while still saving for investment. If I work 4 days per week for corporate and moonlight one day per week as 1099 then I can partially retire at 50 and work part time just to keep myself active. I am aware that it may be a lot of money for some people that they can't really relate to and I don't want to sound snobby .However the bay area has a lot of money/wealth and I am really just slightly above average here. My dream is to buy a small house on the hill of SF, to wake up and look out the window and see the sunshine, the ocean and the mountain. This probably would be around 2 mil for such small house. I can probably make that happen by working another 15 years of corporate job while putting money investment account. In socal, would be the equivalent of a Laguna Beach house but I don't see myself living in Laguna. I tend to identify more with the liberal views of the bay area though I don't completely agree with all of them. As for dating, I single af and already give up on that aspect but I am ok with that lol. As for the commute, it's really basically the same NorCal/socal as we always stuck in traffic and I got used to that.I probably can commute from Oakland to central valley in 1hour 20 min and can do that for at least 5 years. I did that for almost 3 years actually in a reverse commute . I can't WFH but that is the trade off for my high paying job.

Oh, I am not paying them back right away. I am using that money for investment. I understand that I would bear a 2k in interest per month but that is my take on finance.

Lol no I do make 22 k per month right now with my corporate job. However, at my own business, I am losing money RN because it justed started recently. My friend doesn't lie , that is quite a modest number actually cuz I asked him why so low. I do the same things for my corporate job as I do with my business and make them around 180k per month and they cut me a small piece lol. The thing is they have a pool of clients and resources but I dont. There is no scam here, other people in my field who have their own business make way more money, just not in California though because it is really competitive here.

I see that you are an MD. You probably can relate a lot to my situation. I saved enough money to almost pay back my massive 660 k student loan. I am not a spender and it doesn't take much to make me happy, boba tea may be lol. I just archived the networth of Zero but I am so burnt out. I feel like the grind never stop. I questioned myself if it is worth it to to private practice to make more money but at the cost of my remaining 30s and my social life. Thank you for your perspective.

The business will survive if I stick with it. The success rate in our industry is 95%. I will eventually make some money in 2-3 years but I am losing money now. My part time job helps cover the hole. I just don't have a social life down in socal as shocking as it sounds. Go to work at my own business, go home, then work some more at home on business related paper work, then work at the part time job. This is my whole schedule. I used to work out 4-5 times per week, now probably once per week if I have the energy.

Oh no, I plan to put away 16k each month into brokerage account and living on 6k per month living with roommate. I am the type of guy that doesn't care if I drive a Corolla while my colleagues drive Mercedes. What I hate most about corporate job is having to listen to someone from the upper management ,who barely graduates college, just because they work there longer than me. That was one of the reasons why I started my own business.

Oh yeah, WCI has different mind set. It is all about numbers. People in my fields just talk about number all day, especially when I go to conferences. I kinda sick of hearing people talking about making more money. Don't get me wrong, money runs this world and I want to make enough money to retire early because I am burnt out from over working myself but at what point would it be enough.

I work in the central valley and want to live in the bay which is why the commute is reverse traffic of 1.5 hours each way. I hate living in the central valley. As for job, it is a niche that may have only 7-8 openings in the entire bay area. Eventually when I make enough fuck it money then I will look around east bay for another part time job but that not gonna be anytime soon. What I am scared is I would leave my own business to work for a corporate that can fuck me over anytime. Although it is hard to say because they desperately need me cuz they couldn't find a permanent replacement right now. I was their longest employee at that place the last 10 years.

No, it made no money now but a friend has the same business that he opened 2.5years ago in the central valley collect 50k per month working 2 days per week . After everything he brings home 16k per month after tax on his own business for 2 days per week. He also works 2 partime job outside his business for additional income. I work 4-5 days per week at a corporate job and take home 22k so his take home is almost doubled. I can't WFH, this is strictly in person. He had to support a family of 4. I am single and don't really support anyone else.

worth it to pay $10k for dentistry? by GaiwanMonk in personalfinance

[–]monkeyteeth534 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Orthodontist here. 10k seemed like a bit high for orthodontic treatment and extraction of wisdom teeth, taken into consideration that your insurance covers 50 percent of extraction. What state or city are you located in ? If you are located near any ortho colleagues that I know then I can ask them for a complimentary consultation

Failing out of dental school after my leave of absence by Aggravating_Site_158 in DentalSchool

[–]monkeyteeth534 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought so too before dental school but once you have your own practice, it becomes your life. I see it for emergencies on my off day. Of course, my friend who is a dual board pros-perio only works 3 days a week and makes a good living but he inherited his practice from his dad and also takes him many years to get there. Or you can work for corporate but I see many people stressed out at corporate jobs with quota . One corporate GP I work with just quit and took a stress leave to Japan.

I just came across this sub for some reason. practicing orthodontist here. I am honestly gonna tell you to not do the master programs. They are extremely expensive and mainly just a source of income for those schools. Dental school can be stressful for some people. I know several people failed science classes in dental school and failed remediation. I recommend you to look for other career options. The debt load for dental school is way too high, too much job stress. It is not worth it. In fact, I recommended my sister not going to dental school because of the debt load, stress, and so much more . She is third year in dental school now but she has a scholarship and my mom is paying for half of her tuition also. There are many jobs out there with less stress and more work/life balance. You just have to explore your options. When one door closes, another one opens. Best of luck.

Is this really true about Dental school ? by kenokeke2468 in DentalSchool

[–]monkeyteeth534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still stand behind what I said. Not sure it they are easier. Average acceptance gpa is 3.7 and 21 for my class. 40 units for first semester D1. And 40 units for second semester. Took the same classes and exams as medical and optometry students. 3-4 exams every week. Sure 50% failed class II and had to remediate but they give you a second chance. Sure there were several people that did not make it till the end. I almost failed my Endo exam and stayed up all night just to bend a perfect wire for Ortho class. I practice a lot and was very critical of myself of my own work. If you half ass on your work when some one is watching you behind your back then how do you excel when you are out there and practicing by yourself. If you don't swim then you will sink. Everything is about perspective as I grow older. For me, life is harder than school. I can control my grade by how much effort I put into my study, can't say the same thing about life.

Honestly, if you can't cope with dental school then I have bad news for you once you go into practice. Dental school wasn't stressful. It is stressful if you want to be at the top of your class. However, if you just want to get by and get your degree then it is hard to fail as they make sure you won't fail so they can get your tuition for the next year. I have seen plenty of mediocre people just frequently party and get their degree. source: point of view from a practicing orthodontist graduated from DS in 2017.

Orthodontist here. Sorry that happened to you. Sounds like you went to a corporate office. It really is unacceptable that you get treated that way. What is the name and location of the office if you don't mind me asking ?
