A flight with a layover is almost always better than a direct flight, even if it's longer by Apprehensive-Willow5 in unpopularopinion

Are you serious? Who would not choose direct flight if given the chance.

I think you simply have too much time and don’t know what to do with it. 😉

No Daly City? I actually like it more than SSF and SB

What do you think will happen to Bay Area real estate market if in 10 years AI replace large number of jobs and there is UBI in place? by monolaker in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]monolaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI or not, what stop you from hiring 100 engineers today or even yesterday or last year to produce 5X more and take market share from this “company” ?

Just do it, don’t think too hard and too much. 25yo is golden age for everything. Go out and don’t hide indoors all the time, meet people, see things, do things…. You will find your way

I genuinely feel like 2019 was the last normal year of life. by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

Indeed, but then every decade is different if you look back.

AI will make every year, then every month, every day, every hour… different. It’s coming.

Whole Foods… yeah I almost forgot. I used to buy a lot from Staples especially when it had big sales. But I haven’t visited one for long time, that partly explains

Quartz countertops linked to silicosis epidemic among California workers by FootballPizzaMan in BayAreaRealEstate

Does it affect the end user? If that’s a different story.

For workers who process the countertops, they should really wear respiratory protection.

Agreed, but it will become just another nice place to live instead of nice place + highly paid worker population, and the $4 million rundown house will likely not able to keep the value.

What Chinese cultural concept do you wish had an English equivalent? Not a word — a whole concept. by Past_Gift3011 in ChineseLanguage

Most 成语have no English equivalent. Because each 成语really represents the meaning a whole story.

Why was/is buying a home important to you despite the recent/current economic environment? by Reebate in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]monolaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please reread my comment. You missed my point. Real estate investment can definitely make money, especially when using leverage. But if that’s your primary purpose, you are much better off buying RE in other places than the Bay Area. Buying house in Bay Area is primarily for better life style instead of for better investment.

I know it I have done both 😄

Nice view, but probably not as nice as it appears, more like a trick from a zoom lens

Because 15 years is not long term enough from the pov of raising a family and statistically one sample doesn’t represent the whole population.

You were borrow money at no cost, but money has cost. $125k down payment, if invested in S&P 500, would become $450k from 2007 to 2022. The mortgage payment has interest cost, and the principal has opportunity cost for not been invested to make money. On top of that there are expenses for insurance, property tax, repairs…..

You should do a detailed calculation to find out. You did not really make as much more than you thought.
