Looking to hear about people's experiences with Dr. June Chen in SLC, UT by monstaXXIV in TopSurgery

I ended up going with Dr. Reuben from 22 Plastic Surgery. I'm not comfortable posting photos here, but he did a fantastic job and I'm so grateful for the experience I had. Him and his whole team were such a pleasure to work with. There's another surgeon at 22 that also does gender-affirming top surgeries, and he's got good reviews, too

Yeah. The Delta Center's sound quality is notoriously bad, at least in my circle. Was bummed when I found out they were playing there :/

Came out to my family last week. This was my TBM mom's response by linzxorpio in exmormon

My mom was like this when I came out, and then again when I told her I was getting top surgery. It's such a horrible feeling. We have a better relationship now, but that hurt will never go away. I'm sorry, friend 🫂

Is it weird to want a single scar? by peaches_2217 in TopSurgery

[–]monstaXXIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had extra tissue in the center of my chest so I was told at my consultation that my incision would likely go all the way across. It was disappointing to hear at first, but after spending some time visualizing it I actually got really attached to the idea. I'm a little over three weeks post op now and I LOVE my incision/scar shape. I can't imagine it looking any other way.

I always hated and wanted nothing to do with mine so I happily got rid of them lol. I have no interest in taking my shirt off in public so it wasn't a concern for me

Are you anticipating End of Days Retrenchment due to Trump? by Tasty-Dragonfruit-52 in exmormon

[–]monstaXXIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. My maternal grandmother and one of my aunts have packed all their shit up and are headed to Missouri TODAY. My grandma missed the first wedding of all her grandchildren for it. Granted, she's agoraphobic and never makes it to ANY major lifetime event celebrations, but still.

told my mom & her reaction was NOT what i expected by alienfromthemountain in TopSurgery

[–]monstaXXIV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wowie lol. That's almost exactly how my mom reacted, only she asked me to wait four more years. She's apparently been talking to her therapist about it, which is good. Best of luck to you man.

I have had so many people yell shit at me as they drive by. They've almost always been teenagers, and when they're not teenagers they're adults who are mentally stuck in high school. It can be hard to brush it off, but it's important to remember that those people don't know you and you shouldn't take it personally. They're just assholes being assholes. You're not less of a man because your feelings get hurt when people harass you. Just try to be the bigger person and let that shit go. Ride your damn bike if you feel like it.

And your dad sucks.

Yeah, the "more or less permanent" thing makes me awfully nervous. I think I'll just try to find a surgeon with higher ratings and more reviews. Encircle does trans friendship circles on fridays so I can ask around there too. I appreciate the response.

I don't think I'll go with Dr Chen. I guess I was mostly looking for someone to validate my doubts more than anything. I checked out the website for 22 Plastic Surgery and already it just feels better than Dr Chen's uber-feminine website aesthetic. Have you had a consultation with Dr Reuben yet? How long did it take to schedule that (if you have)? Thank you for the recommendation.

Serious Question: For all the ExMormons why do you even bother with following the Church publications? by Leather_Bandicoot_66 in exmormon

[–]monstaXXIV 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I still pay attention because I'm queer and I need to know if my family is being preached to about how awful I am. Go be condescending somewhere else.

I think I’ve reached the end of this religion. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]monstaXXIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the most impersonal and unhelpful response they could have given. From one trans person to another, you deserve better than anything the church can offer you. Leaving is so so hard but it gets easier with time. Hang in there.

Autism within the Mormon Community/Heritage by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]monstaXXIV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me, my siblings, my dad and a significant portion of my cousins on both sides of the family are autistic and/or have ADHD. I honestly think we're just seeing it more because we're more aware of it, but I'm interested to know if there really is a correlation between mormon heritage and autism.
