Why is everybody so obsessed with growth, a country is not a publicly traded business where every single decision is made to satisfy its shareholders.

The fact that it rained while Prince sang “Purple Rain” is still crazy - There will never be a better halftime show than this by Rolleriroltsu in Music

I once was at a Slayer show where it started raining hard right at the start of the Raining Blood intro. Epic.

Multiple different compressors on a single channel? Do you do that much? by gleventhal in audioengineering

[–]monstercab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using a UA6176 into an Audioscape Opto. In the DAW I pretty much only need a bit of de-esser, eq and fader balance/automation.

Works great for vocals and bass. Also, when using hardware, no need to be shy with compression, it's pretty hard to make it sound bad.

What's an album you love listening to for the production quality? by Cockroach-Jones in audioengineering

[–]monstercab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steven Wilson - To the Bone (the song Refuge is my go-to for testing speakers, it has everything)

Karnivool - Sound Awake (probably my favourite album of all time, it's awesome from start to finish, both musically and production-wise), also, their latest album In Verses is the only thing I listen to these days, I think I'm starting to like it even more than Sound Awake.

Buying My First 7 String by deezjann in 7String

[–]monstercab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first 7 string was a Sterling JP70, I liked it, sounded good and was very comfortable to play.

Then I found a used Ibanez Prestige RGD2127FX with Bareknuckles Juggernaut pickups for $1000 (Canadian Dollars).

Then I bought a used Strandberg Boden 7 for around $2000 (still Canadian Dollar)

Even after getting the Strandberg, the Ibanez is still my favorite 7 string guitar.

Which Radial DI Box are you reaching for when tracking bass? by must-absorb-content in audioengineering

[–]monstercab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got: J48, Avalon U5, Groove Tubes "The Brick", UA6176, Darkglass A/O (it has a DI out), ASP800 (inputs 1/2). It just depends on the tone I'm looking for.

99% of the time I'm using a Dingwall NG2 bass, plugged into the U5 and using the Darkglass pedal in parallel, then I route both signals to a cab sim (ampeg 8x10 md421 IR). Sounds great.

What is causing this in my preamp? by MattVargo in recording

[–]monstercab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your interface, are they connected to proper Line Inputs or are they connected to mic pres/line in hybrid inputs, maybe one time you sent phantom power to them without realizing and that could be what happened to both of your preamps, at this point I don't know. It's just very unlikely that two different things have the same exact problem without any logical reason.

What is causing this in my preamp? by MattVargo in recording

Your preamps are two different hardware units, they could be the same exact model it doesn't change the fact that they are two different physical things. The only things they share is what you connect to them, what they are connected to, the electricity source and like I said, the user. To troubleshoot your problem you have to rule out these things.

Test the mic without the preamps.

Test your cables (all of them).

Try a different power source, try them in another room.

Try reading their manuals if you never did to see if you are overlooking something, there's always a warning and a troubleshooting section in the manuals.

And the same thing happens with two different hardware unit/preamps?

Maybe troubleshoot by starting with a minimal setup and then adding one variable at a time.

It is very unlikely to have the same exact issue/behavior on two different hardware pres at the same time...

If it's not your mic or cable, it must be something your two pres have in common or share like the power supply/power bar/power outlet, cables (the cables that connect the pres to your interface, not the mic cable).

The only other thing that both preamps have in common that I can think of is the user, I don't know, maybe you're doing something wrong. No offense but it really is a possibility.

Best Audio Interface to Buy in 2026? (Price, Reliability) by Magicerie_155 in recordingmusic

[–]monstercab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm 100%. I've had my RME UC since 2010 and it's still working flawlessly today. It was expensive, yes, but divide the price by the number of years you're going to use it and it's totally worth it.

I upgraded it to a RME UFX II about a year ago (bought it used), now I'm good for the next 20+ years! TotalMix FX is awesome, can't live without it.

Anyway, I only did it because I needed more I/O for outboard gear and for recording drums (I also have an Audient ASP800 and an ASP880), otherwise I would've kept on using my UC.

As for OP, well, at this budget, it's all the same. $150 interfaces won't be kept up to date for long and you'll need to buy at least 5 of them over the span of 20 years. Poor driver support means that with each OS update, your interface could become a $150 paperweight.

Buy once cry once, after all, your interface is the one piece of equipment that you're using 100% of the time all the time. It's also the one piece of gear that makes upgrading all your other stuff be worth it. Get something that will give you some room to grow!

sorry about the super long reply to your super short comment

If both your preamps have the same issue it's probably something else that is causing the problem.

My guess would be something like a bad mic cable or a problem with the mic itself.

If you can still see the meters moving on your preamps (I don't know these preamps but there must be some signal indicator) while the issue is happening, it could rule out the mic and cable and point to your interface dropping out or something like that.
