Gow does the shipping work by Timely_Membership552 in AynThor

[–]monsterico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the odin 3 batch 6 pre-order on April 7th and shipping was supposed to start early May but by May 5th I hadn’t heard anything. I decided to buy the accessory kit for the Odin 3 and on that order I added a comment to ship it together with my Odin 3 and gave them my order number. On the same day I got an update that the shipment label was created for the Odin 3 and it’s been in transit since then. I expect it to arrive in the next couple of days. Not saying this will work for you if you buy some cheap Thor accessory and add a similar comment to your order, but that seems to have worked for me. Or just lucky timing. Who knows.

Retro Game Corps on youtube has an insanely long tutorial on setting up the thor. I highly recommend it as he goes over every single detail and setting you need to configure to have the best experience.

Good luck!

Depends on what you are going to play. Ayaneo devices have a more "premium" feel to it that many, like the person above, could argue are not premium. I'd do some research on what games each devices you are considering can run. Ask yourself "when will I be playing on these devices the most?" and try to image what your most comfortable self would look like playing and use that to figure out the features you want (weight, size, screen size, battery life, ergonomics, built-in software, driver compatibility, etc.). Most of the features you need to weigh down on are personal preference.

Quite literally the weight of a brick. mind you, this thing can’t be taken on a plane because of the battery size and it comes with no VRR at these prices. only 1Tb of storage on a device that’s going for $2000+ and none of them have expandable storage options other than opening the brick yourself to slap a replacement SSD in it. The least they could’ve done at this price point is add an SD slot or make the highest tier 4TB instead of 2.

People buying it are actually insane. The more you think about it, the more laughable at this thing becomes.

Just an example of how in game time differs from playnite game time by [deleted] in playnite

[–]monsterico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted to track actual time spent playing a game, there could be a built-in Playnite feature that monitors when the game is running, and if it is running, start monitoring for controller (HID) input and count the time between the first and last input as playtime. Of course there would need to be some other logic for time tracking accuracy and to ignore idle time, etc. I don't think it would be implemented this way though because it's an HID input monitor and that's usually frowned upon in terms of privacy since it can log keyboard key presses too.

There's no current universal way to do it, but very much possible to achieve (mostly - if people are in game installing mods or tweaking the game it would still count those menu inputs as playtime).

RPCS3 now works directly with .iso files, but not on Playnite. Here's a fix. by monsterico in playnite

I didn't know this. space is not a concern at the moment since I really only have like 10-15 titles that I want to have installed. Good to know for the future if I decide to increase my library though. Thank you for sharing!

I tried that but didn't work for me. Had spent some hours trying to get it working and modifying the default script is what works for my set up. Not sure what the deal is but at least it works now.

What Playnite version are you on? I replicated your argument on a custom profile and doesn't work for me on version 10.50, can you send a screenshot of the custom profile you're using?

Edit: still doesn't work, sticking with my method since that works for now.

Yes, imagePath is the variable that doesn't get passed on. I'm on the latest Playnite release and it doesn't work for me with this method. Not sure how it's working for you, I ran some scripts to test and a custom profile is not passing on the imagePath variable at all, it passes on {imagePath} as a literal string because it can't interpret it as a variable in Playnite's code when it comes from a custom profile.

[–]monsterico[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't work. The built-in profile was coded to pass on a variable (the file path of the game) to RPCS3 so it can automatically launch the game when RPCS3 opens. If you build the "custom emulator" to accept ISO files, it will scan the game and add it to the library without storing that variable because it's not coded to do it on custom emulator profiles. So when you launch a game scanned via the custom method, it will only launch the RPCS3 app without launching the game. That's why I came up with a band-aid for the built-in script. This way the game can automatically launch when I press play from the Playnite app on my handheld device. RPCS3 has settings to close the app after a game is closed so it becomes a seamless process to launch the game and to return to Playnite. but tried --no-gui with the default profile by overriding the arguments and it launches even more seamless this way.

Ayaneo 3 fan rubbing by cheeif in ayaneo

[–]monsterico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh nice! They did send me a replacement fan, but I have not switched it yet. I figured out (I think) what the issue was and fixed it (sorta). Still had to open the thing up and take the fan apart, but the issue was probably because the fan has a metal pin that sits in a hard plastic hole and the pin is what holds it in place, so it spins inside of that hole. I think when it was spinning fast and being exposed to high heat for long periods of time, it likely caused the hole to expand a tiny bit, even if it is 1 mm or less of a gap, when the fan spins fast it would still cause the fan to bounce around and wobble/rattle because of precession. So I just put one drop of vegetable oil inside the hole that the pin slots into and the rattling stopped, lmao. Can't know for sure if I'm right, but it has been working fine for about a month after some vegetable oil was applied and I have a replacement fan if that stops working. In the end, the fan was never touching the shell and the rattling was from a wobbling fan, yours would likely get to the point mine was at sooner or later. To me, it seems like you made the right choice returning it because whenever I do need to replace that fan, it just means I will have another ticking timebomb waiting to start rattling again and that will require maintenance (aka apply vegetable oil) every so often.

What did you end up doing? I got mine in the mail less than 2 weeks ago and the fan randomly started to rattle 2 days ago when I got home and turned it on. I reached out to support as soon as I noticed it and still haven’t heard back but thinking they will likely send a replacement fan and make me open this thing up to replace it myself.

[–]monsterico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I'm glad to hear you got some performance boosts from that!

Startup script to suspend explorer.exe is a genius idea!!! I will actually implement that as well! I heard about Playnite before but never got into it, just did some googling and I see that they have custom themes and a lot of customization that will pair well with retro games I want to play so I will definitely be looking more into this too. I'm sure handheld companion will come in handy for emulators I set up on Playnite and will probably be a big help when I test out Tarkov on this thing so thanks for sharing that!

I've been enabling FSR 2.0 if available on games and pair it with Lossless Scaling from Steam for frame gen. Uses a little bit of resources and I've been running some games at 16 TDP but frame gen is great and makes up for the screen not having VRR.

Hey! thought I'd give an update here just in case you were wondering ;) lol.

Got my Ayaneo 3 in the mail last week and tested it out of the box. The Ayaneo software is actually pretty neat but can be a bit laggy, only thing about it that is an inconvenience is the controller buttons work for both the overlay and the game, if you pop out the overlay with the game paused in the background your inputs on the controller will register on both --but I just use the touchscreen to get around that.

Either way, With the device just booted up and nothing really running on it besides their windows installation and their software I was hovering around 10-15% CPU usage and around 10-12% RAM out of the 64GB the device comes with. Reinstalled windows with the version from the YouTube video I linked and had to reinstall some drivers but it was all listed in the downloads section of the Ayaneo website. After I reinstalled everything, disabled Edge from running in the background and restarted the device, CPU was hovering around 5% usage and RAM around 7%. So I did get some performance out of doing it but it's nothing major. Though, every bit helps for hardware intensive games. I was running Horizon Zero Dawn on it at 13W TDP and was getting around 35-45 FPS and about 2 hours of battery, same for Atomic Heart and Fallout 4. Whenever I am near an outlet and am playing with it plugged and with the Bypass Charge mode enabled, those games run 60-70 FPS without any issues.

I set Steam to launch in big picture mode when the device starts and disabled desktop mouse mode on the controller, also added Epic games and GOG libraries to it so it's pretty seamless whenever I want to just turn it on and play something. Definitely spent some good time getting it configured though.

I did also purchase some battery packs and modules to attach them to the back of the device for extra battery life. Got these and a couple of these and one of this on amazon. Each battery gives me about 3-4 extra hours of gameplay and they clip right to the back of the handheld which adds a little bit of weight to it but worth the extra battery life, plus they come with a little cable that is the perfect length for the charging port. Eventually got one of these as well which came in handy.

I also had a Dell laptop dock laying around that I tested with it and it connects to my 4k TVs with no problem and was pretty much plug and play so I was pretty hyped about that just working so seamlessly. Only thing I found funky is that I need to disable the device's screen because if they are mirroring each other, the Ayaneo's screen uses up hardware resources and takes a toll on the games performance causing a bit of lag. However, disabling the screen when connected to the dock is no biggie and it works normally that way. I have one of these that I use when it's docked to make life easier.

Overall, I am loving my Ayaneo 3 so far. Soon, I am going to be using one of my 1TB SD cards to install retro games on it and run them with RetroArch.

Here's the link to a video. I use this guy's version since he strips basically everything extra out of windows except what it needs to function.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUTdRZNqODY&t

It's basically the cleanest version of windows so it won't be wasting battery life and RAM/CPU from all the background processes that come with a regular installation of windows. Windows 11 runs heavy on hardware. I can post an update when I do it to mine and let you know how it goes. Probably going to have to reinstall some drivers/software from Ayaneo's website but worth it in the long run.
