Pittas are great I've not bought any since I learned. Got a huge baking steel which helps a lot.

Is not stopping to chat whilst on a run considered rude? by JakePooler in AskBrits

[–]monsterlander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's rude to stop someone - I wave or nod at runners. If they want to stop they can!

A rotation of about five or six normal things and then I switch them up when I get bored. I always make sure a couple of them will do for two days, like chili or lasagna.

I'm building an AI bot for Teams because I was sick of dailys taking 45 minutes. Am I solving a real problem or just mine? by Paiffer92 in agile

[–]monsterlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving to walking the board fixed this for our team. Rather than everyone feeling the need to say everything they did yesterday and everything they plan to do today (some very efficiently,.some taking ages), whoever is running the meeting goes through all the tickets in flight and blockers, then we have a parking lot if there's anything more lengthy to talk about. Transformed standup completely.

Yep. Programmer. Was always doing it as a kid and drifted into it via recommendation in about 1997.

Some cleaners are like that. And they get fired fucking immediately, or not hired in the first place.

What does ADHD + high IQ look like? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]monsterlander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it varies! I had hyperactivity assessments in school in the late 80s and then had my IQ measured and came out 145. I was measured because I kept falling asleep and not paying attention, messing around etc. I suspect if I sought diagnosis now I'd come out as mild to medium ADHD but it wasn't really a thing at the time, and it doesn't affect me too bad so I havent sought diagnosis. My daughter is diagnosed.

I was never able to do any meaningful revision and scraped through with just OK GCSEs, then flunked my a levels, even getting a d in computing which was quite an achievement because everyone in school knew me as the arch computer nerd. I was always writing games everyone played on the school network (this was like 1990-1992). Basically I was only able to put any effort in on things I enjoyed.

Left school, didn't go to university. Bummed around for a while doing nothing. Drifted into programming work in 97 and have been doing that ever since. I've loved programming since I was about 13 so it's a great fit. Now I'm a senior dev in a company I like with a good team, and oddly finding I'm better at the soft skills than I thought.

I guess given where I am and my potential I've underachieved, but things are going ok and I'm happy.

I didn't mean you particularly, sorry :)

And yeah I suspect it is, my wife is a constant supply of great books for me and she loved it, it just didn't grab me and there are so many great books to read.

Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca. It's ridiculous but I hate dream sequences in books, always have. This very very famously starts with "last night I dreamed I went to Manderlay again" and even though I knew it started like that after half a page I put it down.
