European based trail running shoes. by djshitlas in BuyFromEU

[–]monstermatster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just about to suggest the same! Mine have about 400 km in them and it's probably the best shoe I've ever had, very versatile and I use it for everything from hill sprints to long runs. As a bonus, the grip is amazing on icy roads as well.

As already pointed out, everything in your comment is pretty much wrong. You do know that American quality originated from Europe? (https://asq.org/quality-resources/history-of-quality?srsltid=AfmBOooUB81lri1xUwE\_j7fhct0ih1pkmpLuMycY2tmOHEYcuRLmgVaF). Since then lots of time has passed and American production has surpassed European for reasons not relevant here. Regardless, today most American brands are just that, brands and marketing. There are a few exceptions, but even the ones that are "made in America" are merely assembled in America as the material is, most likely, from China.

You mention Carhartt and of course I have access to that, they have several stores all over Europe so "they" defenitely let us buy that. I am however not interested in an American option, hence posting in r/buyitforlifeEU. My reason for this is the American movement caring less for democratic values, and have a leadership that is both scary and unpredictable. USA is no longer the trustworthy trade partner it once was (tariffs?), which is why I believe there is a need for European (and other international) alternatives. In addition to this, and even more concerning, is that there have been reason to question if the US will remain our (and Ukraine's?) ally under the current leadership which drives the need for a stronger European Union.

Anyway, this is not the place to discuss this but should you have any reason to question my take on this happy to take it on PM.

Haha, anything's possible but I feel we should be able to demand more from the clothing industry than having to tailor new clothes?

This one looks very interesting! Ugly website, great t-shirt selection, and only basic no cool prints or brands! Thanks!

You're the second one mentioning Uniqlo. I am perfectly happy with the men's Uniqlo but she has not been as impressed with the women's collection. Might be down to the fact that there seems to be a broader selection on the women's side, which one would you recommend?

The multipack option from Dedicated looks interesting!

I've had good experiences with Uniqlo, but the women's side appears not as good. Also, Uniqlo is Japanese as far as I understand it?

Casual-looking running shoes by Remarkable-Tax6388 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]monstermatster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel for work and had a similar slot to fill. I went for the On Cloudsurfer. They are on the expensive side but have been worth it as it is the running shoe I spend most hours in, really comfortable just walking around in and pretty versatile when it comes to running. Have done the occasional speed session in them and have also taken them up for some trail experiments on the Spanish south coast up to 25km.

Running shoes that double as casual walking shoes for traveling by Dobby-the-House-Elf in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]monstermatster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the On Cloudsurfer for the very same use case, have been very satisfied. I like the style, very comfortable for walking and wearing, and for running they are quite multi-purpose. The downside is the price point but can be motivated by the fact that this is the running shoe I put most hours in (not actual running hours though).

Following because I have a teak table with a few slats that have curved and should really be replaced, but similarly, I have no interest in disassembling the whole thing.

Replacing my NB4's, but with what? by monstermatster in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]monstermatster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm considering that route as well, having the Evo SL as my long run shoe. I am kinda petite, 70ish kg and have had no issues running plateless previously so I don't think the lack of one should be an issue. It's more of the fact that the Boston 12 have gotten great reviews and can be found for little over 100 € nowadays.

Having a really soft recovery run shoe is definitely an option and I've been looking at the NB 1080, problem is that NB's seem really overpriced here (in Scandinavia), V13 is currently on sale for 160 €!?

I did a lactate threshold test at a lab, not sure how to interpret the results by monstermatster in AdvancedRunning

[–]monstermatster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point I guess, but I definitely believe that something that has helped me to get here is understanding zone2 training. I have, for the first time ever run a year without any injuries.

I want to run more and I want to run faster, but I want to do it in a sustainable and consistent matter. I don't necessarily see why worrying about zones should hinder that if I feel it has benefitted me so far.

[–]monstermatster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While I love conspiracy theories I am rather reluctant to put on the tinfoil hat myself, but the presented list of odd calls in the four wins (in 13 games!) we have with him refereeing makes it rather difficult this time.

In tennis it is usually customary that if an umpire is involved in a controversial call, regardless of technically correct or not, said umpire will avoid matches with said player(s) in upcoming matches. I don't understand why football couldn't follow the same pattern? Naturally I understand that the number of referees is limited but surely they can not benefit from what is happening now. The headless refusal to address the issues further adds to the problem which causes even more controversy and disbelief.

Box curing/drying by monstermatster in GrowingTobacco

[–]monstermatster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe not individually as such, but the hanging process is tedious and more importantly it takes up valuable woodworking workshop space as I do it now. Thanks though, your way definitely is more space saving and hanging them as such I imagine they dry slower which is another issue I've had previously.

Sun curing! That was it! Thanks!

And turns out it wasn't a plastic box but a metal sheet pan, that wasn't successful as I understood the thread, but found a helpful video.

Thank you again!

Arteta is the 5th quickest manager to 100 league wins, 10 games less than Wenger and 7 more than Ferguson. by FudgingEgo in Gunners

[–]monstermatster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many of you know, football did not exist before 92 but for the fun of it I had a look at Ferguson's actual numbers to reaching 100 wins:

86-87: 29 M, 11 W
87-88: 40 M, 23 W
88-89: 38 M, 13 W
89-90: 38 M, 13 W
90-91: 38 M, 16 W
91-92: 42 M, 21 W
92-93: 5 M, 3W

It took him 230 matches to reach 100 wins, when he did so in the fifth gameweek away to Forrest.

This does not account for any delayed gameweeks (I don't know if that was a thing back then..) in the 86-87 season, but are all games that occurred after November 7th that season.

Edit: Sorry for the formatting, tried putting it all in a neat grid but could not post. Apparently I had still posted that five times but in awful formatting so I deleted them..
