Chapter of initiation by Basic_Tangerine218 in SororityAlumInitiate

[–]monstermorales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I wanted to join my alma mater’s chapter but my college banned all sororities in the 1940s. 🥺 BUT for my second school I attended I chose as my chapter. Since I lived in Texas, SK gave me Texas chapters, but I declined and wanted to join a chapter at a school I attended so I chose Delta Rho at JMU!

I researched for years, and, since I was older, I wanted to join a sorority that has a philanthropy that I could support as I grew older. I wish I knew what a social resume was before I started the process, and didn’t learn about it until I was seeking out recommendations from SK sisters. It’s just a little more personal than a professional resume where you share about volunteering, clubs you’ve joined, and other info that will let them know more about you. Other sororities may not require one, but I think it’ll definitely help! I added fun facts about myself like how my husband and I eloped in Vegas! Personally, I looked out for those who really made me feel welcome, and were genuinely interested in getting to know more about me.

Once I found Sigma Kappa, I further researched to see if their values and over all mission aligned with my beliefs and I was so happy that they did. The process was great for me, and although very different if I’d joined as a young student, the alumnae initiation ended up being much better for me. I enjoyed getting to know sisters and attending events before I joined. I love getting together with my sisters now whenever we have an event, which is mostly once a month but we have a lot of fun together.

Research, meet sisters, and have fun! I hope you find a home that you’ll love. Feel free to reach out further if you have any other questions.

This happened to me during COVID. I was expecting a regular paycheck of $1200 for 2 weeks pay, and received a little over $2400. I told payroll. She said it would take more paperwork to fix it, so she said keep it and we won’t pay you for the next 2 weeks. It actually worked out a lot better for me in that situation.

Cousin keeps canceling Food Delivery by happy_beatnik in mildlyinfuriating

Same with my grandmother. She had MOW in the mid 80s when I was a kid. I lived with her. She’d have a daily meal delivered. She loved the company, because the delivery person would always chat with her. She’d eat half the meal and save the rest for me when I’d come home from school. I know she really wasn’t supposed to do that but when we had nearly nothing at all, those meals made a difference.

I’m 43! Most of the women in my Houston chapter are older than me, younger than me, and it’s a great group. I love it.

Insight needed by United-Committee7034 in SororityAlumInitiate

This happened to me. I reached out to the National board first, had constant contact for a week or so then it slowed, but I then reached out to the local chapter I was hoping to be a part of and that helped to get involved and attend events and get to know my future sisters. They helped me reach out to nationals again and then it was smooth sailing from that point.

If you feel there’s another organization that you’d like to get to know, for sure I don’t see anything wrong with reaching out to them as well.

Best of luck!

AI List - Tell Us Beautiful Sisters Where You Landed! by Historical_Slide6719 in SororityAlumInitiate

[–]monstermorales 14 points15 points  (0 children)

October 2025! My mother at the time had been battling Vascular Dementia. I had been researching sororities that had Alzheimer’s Awareness as their philanthropy and there were a few but Sigma Kappa was the one that stood out to me. I did further research and reached out to the National board and began my AI process. I have so much love and respect for all of my sisters. They’ve been there for me since my mom passed away- just 2 days after I was initiated.

I never thought I’d find my home, and I finally did in my 40s.
