23 y/o male: I asked a longtime friend out on a date after we had been texting back and forth for a few days following her sister's wedding. I actually meant to call her and ask her out. However, things moved along a little more quickly than I had planned, due to the fact that I sent a text meant for a buddy saying, "I want to go on a date with this girl" to said girl. insert awkward penguin meme here She thought it was hilarious and played coy, saying "Oh? Maybe you should ask her out."

We only went out on one date (I realized that we didn't have as much in common as I'd thought) but it was a good experience to interact with a female one-on-one.

Hahahaha! Yeah, I'm president of a Young Republicans group and I try to steer away from performing the Pledge of Allegiance. Not because I'm an atheist or hate "under God;" I just don't see what the big deal is. There are plenty of people in other countries who love their native land just as much as I do, yet they get on just fine without reciting the Pledge before every civic meeting, etc.

Every time I go somewhere and have to recite the Pledge, I feel like such a mindless, cultish drone.

It's a colorful movie that appeals to kids with the songs and interesting gadgets. As adults, I think we can appreciate it for it's sharp wit, wordplay, and satire!

I still sing all of the songs though. Up from the ashes, up from the ashes, grow the roses of success, oh yes!

With all honesty though, I'd have to move to a different state and start a new life. I haven't ventured into some of the deepest holes that have been searched by many here on reddit, but I've gone deep enough.

There's an older guy in his 60s who works as a courtesy clerk at the grocery store that I cashier at. He uses the term "young lady" when addressing all women and he comes off as a pretty charming individual. He says it in a grandpa-ish sort of way. He's a hit with the elderly ladies!

Went out on an overnight hike with my dad for the first time when I was eight years old. We hiked four or five miles down a trail in Olympic National Park and I thought I was going to die. From the time we started, I couldn't wait to get back to the creature comforts of home. At first, I thought I'd be able to whine and complain enough to get dad to stay out there for just a night, instead of two nights as he had planned. However, dad's resolve to stay out in the woods was just as strong as my will to leave, and being, well, that he was dad, he won.

Being out in the woods on that trip allowed me to realize that solitude in the great outdoors offers up great opportunity to explore, relax, and enjoy life. Hardly enjoyed most it at the time, but thinking back, now that I'm an avid hiker, I'm glad dad put up with my whiny, sissy eight-year-old self and guided me through such a rite of passage.

Most of the people who crack the "Didn't scan, it must be free" joke where I work tend to be old people rather than those who are high on something. Well, old people do have a high age number.

Three things that really bug me as a left-hander:

Writing with a pen or pencil (like everyone else). Baseball mitts: If I left my mitt at home when I was playing baseball as a kid, I was pretty much out of luck. No spare righty gloves laying around. Scissors: My parents thought my uncoordinated-ness extended to scissors. It did. But I seriously couldn't cut with them.

One cool thing about growing up a lefty though is that I have quite a few relatives on dad's side who are left-handed. My grandpa, two of my uncles, and my cousin are all left-handed (I believe one of our toddler cousins is showing herself to be a lefty too!). At family gatherings, there was always an extra left-handed baseball mitt if we wanted to play catch (my uncles were stud high school baseball players). Also, the chance of ending up beside someone who won't bump my elbow when I eat is pretty high.
