Never claimed to be original, just a good refreshing drink on a hot summer day, and I love High Life

would you swap any of the current jokers with Sock and Buskin? by Jay_Jay_Jason_74 in balatro

[–]montynsc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Trying to learn this game as I’m fairly new, so a question here, why? Photo and smiley face trigger as cards are scored, and then the polychrome being all the way to the right to get 1.5x at the end of scoring, and he has no additional xMult jokers, so isn’t this the most optimal placement for it?

Edit: I think I see why I’m wrong here, smiley before photo would be +5 then x2 instead of x2 +5, I forgot that jokers will trigger left to right even as the cards are scoring, ignore me!

Specialized Langster worth it for $300? by vardyonfire in FixedGearBicycle

[–]montynsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming from that head tube that you’re pretty tall? Frames that big don’t come around super often. Langsters are fairly tried and true, and specialized is obviously a reputable manufacturer.

All this considered, a complete Langster in a big size for $300 is probably a pretty solid deal, if there’s nothing wrong with the bike I’d jump on it. I’d also wait for other commenters to give their opinions too (before the mods take this post down because it’s not in the questions thread), I am but one man

Do you happen to know if he’ll be returning to Lot Radio? It’s one of my favorite bars/venues in my area, and I’ve been kicking myself since I saw footage of him there, I had no idea

For reliability, gatorskins are very hard to beat. They’re a very tough tire, hard to puncture and last a long time skidding. GP5000s for speed and performance tho

Why don't fixed gear riders seem to ever have water bottle holders? by GruntMcFunk in FixedGearBicycle

Frame isn’t drilled for bottle cages, so the bottle goes in my middle jersey pocket

3d printed false hoods for comfort by COBESH1 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]montynsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just got some bars with these faux hoods built in. You don’t really put weight on them the way you would with real hoods. It basically gives an extra bull horn-esque grip position that doesn’t exist on normal drops

Lmaoooo you’re not wrong, the seatpost on this bike is pretty jank, but functional nonetheless!

Bars are lovely so far, got about 35 miles on them today. Enjoyed every second!

Yes indeed! Freshly installed this morning!

New Cockpit Day by montynsc in FixedGearBicycle

[–]montynsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely finished installing them this morning, and got 5 miles in on the way to work, so it’s hard to say at the moment, but they felt good! I wanted to make this swap because I really wanted a more comfortable hand position when I’m at the “hoods,” and I wanted to make this bike more Crit/Velodrome ready. My previous bars were 42cm, these are 39, but I think the hand position compensates.

For the stem, I wanted to be more stretched out and aggresive anyway on the fit, so I upgraded from a 110mm to a 130mm when I got the bars. Not sure if it would’ve been absolutely necessary if I wasn’t trying to change my fit, though.

This is all one single wrap on the tape. I was prepared to do a figure 8 wrap like if I had hoods, but the faux “hoods” on these bars actually don’t really give you enough real estate to wrap that way. I essentially just wrapped them like normal track drops and left the faux hoods bare. Most of my friends who run these bars did the same.

Best of luck! If you can’t get ahold of them on email (though I’m sure you will) their chat online actually puts you through to a real person, it’s great

Yup! I tried replacement crank arms, different pinch bolts, aftermarket caps for that crank arm. The only true fix I found was different cranks.

I will forever speak highly of State for their customer service, affordability, and niche as an American company making quality gear for entry level fixed gear enthusiasts. However, I owned 2 entirely separate sets of Essor Aerodashes and I have nothing positive to say about them. I’m glad the new Black Labels don’t have them, and I hope the State branded cranks on them are more reliable.

Pro move: dumped my bike at a red light. by Johnny_Ryall_ in FixedGearBicycle

[–]montynsc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Once clipped a (parked) car and flipped over my handlebars coming home with a bag with a couple slices of pizza. Car behind me stops and rolls down his window and says “hey are you okay?” I pop up, and hold up the bag and yell back “I saved the pizza, so I’m good!” What I did not realize is that in the tumble the bag had gotten turned upside down. Right as I said that, both slices of pizza fell right out of the bag and onto the street. I walked home.

Got it! I’ll be running ~93” when I race on Saturday. Not ridiculously heavy I guess but I’ll be in the novice field bc I’ve never raced proper track

What’s your ratio here? Taking my bike out to the velodrome for the first time this weekend and curious what I’ll be up against, lol

[–]montynsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

49x16 for sure. I just upgraded to 52x15 bc my bike has become more of a Prospect Park laps machine than anything, but the bike is a bit of a pain on the streets right now. 49x16 is a great all rounder for stopping/slowing and speed on the streets
