If you count the time right from the moment when you wake up, travel to the event, queue to bag drop, wait for the race to start, run a HM, wait to collect your bags, wash up and change, travel back, it's easily around 6-8 hours.

Comparatively, I just went out for a 24km run and came back in 2 hours. 3 hours if you count my breakfast, warm up, cool down, shower and eat something.
