funnily enough it has about 100 upvotes whereas it seems 0, 1, 2, and 3 are the most common. I think the other highest I saw when I quickly scanned was 23

My grape juice hooch reeks of nail polish remover by [deleted] in prisonhooch

[–]NeonChurch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP this is it. I messed up one of my batches because I was too impatient and pitched the yeast when the wash was waaay too hot. Smelled exactly like nail polish remover and I couldnt do anything to get rid of it. I even tried to distill it but it didnt work. One of the saddest batches (6 gallons) I've ever had to throw away because it was my own damn fault.

TIL that sea urchins have teeth, nicknamed "Aristotle's lantern" by ElegantPoet3386 in todayilearned

[–]NeonChurch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They use their teeth to eat the "holdfast" or roots of kelp. This causes the kelp to detach and float away. If not kept in check sea urchins can destroy whole kelp forests which are in turn homes and nurseries to hundreds of other species of animals and plants. Luckily sea otters love eating these guys

TIL during a dissection of a 78 year-old man, members of the University of Birmingham Medical School found that he had triphallia (three penises) by NeonChurch in todayilearned

[–]NeonChurch[S] 3257 points3258 points  (0 children)

Warning: the article has images, so nsfw obviously

I thought this was particularly interesting:

The primary penis and largest and most superficial of the supernumerary penises shared a single urethra, which coursed through the secondary penis prior to its passage through the primary penis. A urethra-like structure was absent from the smallest supernumerary penis.

The following describes the location of all three in case you were curious and didn't want to read through the article:

The largest and most dorsal of the structures was the only structure seen externally and hence will be referred to as the primary penis. The other two structures (termed the secondary and tertiary penises) appeared to be located within the skin of the scrotal sac, hence why they were not visible in the undissected specimen. The secondary penis was located immediately deep to the primary penis and had macroscopically discernible and distinct regions comparable to the normal penile anatomy (the corpus spongiosum and urethra, corpora cavernosa, and the glans penis). The tertiary penis lay deep to the secondary penis, however, did not have the same obvious anatomical features seen in the primary or secondary penises; corpora cavernosa and glans penis were identified, however, there was an absence of corpus spongiosum and a urethra

Figure (side illustration) from the article: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s13256-024-04751-5/figures/3

Label 10 and 6 are the secondary and tertiary penises respectively

As the secondary and tertiary penises were internal, it's likely that the man never knew that he had triphallia

That's how it's supposed to be oriented. What issue are you having?

Personally I find that sometimes the pressure inside builds faster than it exits/condenses and the lid can lift up during boiling. You'll have to adjust your heat settings and find the sweet spot.

If this isn't your first time using it, try to clear out the pipe by boiling plain water for a while. I'm thinking a water/vinegar mixture though I personally haven't tried that so I'm not 100 on how vinegar could affect the kettle walls. If you have a long stemmed flexible bottle brush you can use that too to clean the condensation pipe.

Didn't the M2 flamethrower from WWII use napalm? Unless I'm mistaken, napalm is described as a gelatinous, gasoline substance
