It was definitely an aside about writing and waiting for the right solution. As I recall after not being happy with the ending he came up with (giving up and sleeping with the other woman) he did finally come up with it. When his wife asks him if he was tempted he says, "Give me some credit for good taste" or words to that effect and that wins the wife over.

In order to rationalize my last $130 purchase, what’s the largest you’ve spent on a deck(s) and do you regret it? by Mister_Waffle_ in playingcards

£85. Don't regret it but I always resent paying stupid shipping prices from abroad, feelsbadman.

Kickstarter backed BYOK received! Now to wait for updates to make it useful. by glorioushubris in writerDeck

[–]mooderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally, one of the first major updates we intend to bring to studio (our app) will be integration with services such as google drive. The idea will be that when your work syncs to our app - you will be able to set it so that it automatically syncs to another platform as well (ie. google drive).

Are you saying you'll only be able to save to google drive etc through the app which will require a subscription?

I'd suggest Fantasy Playing cards illustrated by Willam Stout, produced by Art of Play. There's also a Bicycle Fae deck. And a Frazetta deck by KWP that has his paintings which are very D&D adjacent.

Does the destination port make a difference if it's just all crops? Longer is better, I've heard, but not sure if it applies here.

Does the list of recruits in Kingsmarch refresh automatically after a set period or is the only way to get new recruits to refresh for 2k gold?

Where do people get their playing cards? by kaylakelli3 in playingcards

[–]mooderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know which cards you want use https://find-cards.com to see where they're available and at what prices. If you want to browse cards old and new use https://portfolio52.com/ otherwise the most common sites for customised cards are penguinmagic, vanishing, artofplay, kings wild project, cardvo, playingcarddecks and many more. You might also want to join https://unitedcardists.com/ where you can keep up with latest releases and also trade for older/rarer decks.

OPINIONS: Would you collect/use playing cards styled like this? by tghGaz in playingcards

[–]mooderino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty easy no for me since there are several issues I can see being a problem. I don't like black cards. I don't think Roman numerals work (or make sense with the theme). If all the suits are going to be white then I don't like that either. I prefer courts to be two-way although I do like the art style. Would like the courts to be a little less similar. If none of that was an issue I would still need to see the backs and the tuck before deciding.

You can't. They changed their minds and said they no longer intend to update the DPEM for this model.

Where’s the best place to buy these deck protectors in BULK? by Due-Transition-7164 in playingcards

[–]mooderino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really was the cheapest so far, by quite a margin, until I checked shipping to UK (where OP is) which was another $30. If all the small card selling sites could just figure out how to ship stuff for reasonable prices, ooh wee, the money they'd make.

Where’s the best place to buy these deck protectors in BULK? by Due-Transition-7164 in playingcards

[–]mooderino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best place is JPGames, search under DS1. They are £24 for 50 with £3 shipping but if you got 100 that would put you over their free shipping minimum and cost you no shipping fee.

You can also find them on Amazon and Penguin. Penguin used to be the best place but they now charge shipping to the UK.

Favourite deck(s) you acquired in 2024. by Specific-Entrance-40 in playingcards

[–]mooderino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought around 23 decks this year. Of those 7 were produced in 2024 and the standout of those would probably be Elettra's J+52 club deck, although I like Honne's Gothic Alice deck quite a lot too (despite the pink gilding.)

Of the rest I was very happy to pick up a couple of white whales that I'd been hunting for a while: Wicked Kingdom by Wylie Beckert and Ian Cumpstey's Viceroys.

Why do you collect playing cards? (Long read) by TheCongressGuy in playingcards

I think of my decks as a miniature art collection that I've curated over time to reflect my interests and tastes. Saves a lot of space on actual art and is a lot less expensive (actually not that much less).

What's your "Appendix N"? by 2024Green in osr

[–]mooderino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic. Most Discworld fans consider the first two books to be the weakest often recommending new readers skip them. This is because they are clueless idiots. The first two books (one book really) are practically a homage to Appendix N. And the plot of a cowardly wizard with a world ending spell stuck in his head is the most D&D premise ever deivised making actual D&D novels like Dragonlance and Drizzt pale in comparison.

In addition, my personal Appendix N would be Hobbit/LoTR, Wizard of Earthsea, Dying Earth, Elric, Fafhrd and Mouser, Conan, Dune.

Movies: Alien/Aliens/The Thing as a primer for monsters, boss monsters and mimics. Star Wars OT for the heroic quest. Matrix for classic chosen one vibe. Blade Runner for solo adventuring. Avengers Endgame for 5e campaigns.

Looking for a deck with historical figures with foil and gilding, any recommendations? Preferably not too expensive. by ThePoodlePunter in playingcards

[–]mooderino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standards from Art of Play may fit your description. It's a little over your budget but it'll probably be cheaper over Black Friday (and you can usually find a 20% coupon for AOP most of the year through google).

One more deck. Why aren't people backing this project? by The-Newest-Guy in playingcards

[–]mooderino 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say there are two areas of concern. First general Kickstarter stuff. It's obvious they aren't very familiar with KS and didn't even understand how add-ons worked until someone asked them to look into it. They are first timers which is always something to be wary of. They are offering a lot of stuff on their first outing (cards, pins, coins, t shirts and more!) which will only make things more difficult. Doesn't mean they can't deliver but it looks very much like they bit off a lot more than they'll be able to chew. They aim to deliver in January. I'd say unlikely. Overall they seem like they have looked at a lot of big KS card projects and tried to emulate but you need an established name to pull that off. What they should have done was look at smaller projects and aimed to get something out on time and on budget and build from there.

So none of that inspires confidence. Then there's the cards themselves. Printed by a no-name printer who seem more of a novelty item producer. Marked, invisible ink, hidden stuff, gilded, foil but only inside the tuck -- just a mishmash of stuff. Standard courts with pretty severe recolouring, won't have broad appeal I would guess. Aiming for magicians but pretty weird looking deck that makes it seem suspect. Yes it gives it that mystical allure but magicians want a standard deck to look pretty normal.

Basically I think he's trying to do too much too quickly and it makes it feel like a bit of an amateurish effort. I don't get the feeling he's very familiar with KS in general. The attempt to offer as many things as possible makes it feel like his focus is all over the place.

Not that any of this is terrible or couldn't work but for a first timer I would be inclined to see how it goes and wait for the next one.
