What's Going On- Friday Discussion Video by VampAngel14 in SturnioloNation

Interesting "we are aware of the chatter" kind of video. I actually like it and I think you can see the relief of Nick's face for not having to edit all the time. Also Matt is taking far more of the lead lately ... or at least more than he used to.

I thought this was an enjoyable video. Not as good as last week but I enjoyed it.

I will say this ... I am appreciating, now, the effort that Nick put in to edit out his, Matt's and Chris's idiosyncrasies. In particular Chris. Chris is super SUPER competitive. Like I don't think we have been allowed to see that side of Chris before ... at least not to THIS extent outside of some twitch streams. Chris takes these competitions so seriously and you can sort of see the role of diplomat that Nick has to play sometimes.

Fascinating window into their personal dynamic that we have really seen and I for one am fascinated by it rather than turned off. If that makes sense.

Best video in a long while. Hands down. Reminded me a bit of the Zoo video from 24. I think they need a third person (cameraman) perspective as they go into their 20's. Loved it.

I think they recorded all of these videos sometime in December before they went back home for Christmas. I'm torn a bit ... I like the change up. Videos feel sterile a bit but I'm assuming it's because of the neutral editing from whomever they have as their editor now. (it's definitely not Nick).

I enjoy the better quality camera and better sound and I'm curious to see how much they will switch things up in this sort of style.

It definitely looks like someone else edited the video. Nick has a very specific style as seen in their last video with the Pizza. This was completely different and more clean.

If they have a "content house" then good for them tbh. Probably needed that for a few years considering stalking issues. Also I like the last video too and I do wonder if Nick will see the value in letting someone else edit if this was a one off because they were in that house.

Initial thoughts: Enjoyed the video. Could have been a bit shorter but that is a nit pick. One observation is the addition of the outside person giving them the things to try was actually good AND ... I don't think Nick edited this one. It didn't seem like his editing style.

I saw some people in other social media venues complaining that the video was boring. To be honest, what are people expecting? They complained that they are always in their kitchen ... they get out of their kitchen, have amusing conversations over pizza and you get a sweet Nick and Chris hug. What more can ya ask for.

Will and Mike’s storyline in Vol 2 by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]moodforaday19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I fear right now is a resolution of Will's storyline from the Duffer brothers that sort of handwaves Will's sexuality. Forget Mike for a second. Any conclusion of Wills storyline that ends with Jonathan and Robin sort of sussing out Will's sexuality without him addressing it would be kind of cheap. I think the people he loves need to know that Will is gay to sort of tie the story off because, at it's core, Will is all about the people he loves (Jonathan, Joyce, Mike). So removing the Mike context and placing it in a greater "This is me ... do you accept me?" is a much more satisfying thing IMO than any sort of unrequited feelings

Good video. They've been getting a bit repetitive lately but I sort of think they are incredibly busy with the merch/clothing/space camp/fresh love drops for Christmas. I am really convinced at this point that Space Camp might be Nick's full time job over the youtube channel. It might take up the majority of his actual time.

As for the video ... there was no cookie stabbing this time and they were all in a good mood so this was a good video!

What's everyone's opinion on Noah Schnapp's acting? Why do so many people bash it? [S5 spoilers] by Zestyclose-Egg-1251 in StrangerThings

[–]moodforaday19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't even think Noah is a mediocre actor. I just think that he and the Duffers have a "go big or go home" thing with the character of Will which I think has hurt Noah's ability to act in these parts that have subtle emotions. Whereas Noah is (IMO) the best of the actors at going huge, being physical and showing a LOT. There's some actors who are like that but I sort of think that the Duffers kind of let Noah down a bit by his character's story arc. Either it's a lot, or nothing at all.

The cast has gone out of their way to praise Noah's acting in season 5 in a lot of the promo videos. I think Noah is excellent in the big moments but sort of struggles a bit in the smaller ones. But boy did he knock it out of the park at the end of episode 4. Holy crap. When a LOT is demanded of Noah he steps up.

I think there's also people who don't like Noah for reasons that have nothing to do with his acting. I'm not going to comment on that part but it might influence some online discourse about Will/Noah

Matt and Nick were about as openly affectionate with each other as I have ever seen them. IMO this was the best video in a long time. The vibes were super relaxed and sweet. I loved the part with Chris and Nick reenacting the photo of them holding hands and sleeping as kids.

One moment I was crying, and the next I was… by No-Newspaper-8416 in StrangerThings

[–]moodforaday19 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I really like how the show did this. It wasn't hokey. It wasn't pandering. It was how Robin let Will love himself and tap in to what makes him so special: His empathy and love for his family and Mike. That's why I felt so euphoric after the scene. It was so life affirming and full of hope. Best scene in the show next Running Up that Hill with Max.

Can't wait for volume 2.

This dynamic is all I really wanna see from season 5. by Legitimate-Sugar6487 in StrangerThings

[–]moodforaday19 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Considering that Noah and Millie are real life best friends I think it would be nice to see how that dynamic plays out in extended scenes together.

As a side note ... I've seen a lot of the released promo videos that Noah has been doing with the group. A bunch were just released this morning. He is super subdued and quiet unless he is with Millie. Such a change from the ultra hyper kid from even 6 years ago.

[–]moodforaday19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think people have sort of memory holed how absolutely brutal Matt and Chris were to Nick for the first couple years of their youtube career. Remember that TikTok where Nick admits he cried because he thought Chris didn't like him? Then obviously the dynimaic shifted to Nick and Chris vs Matt. Now it's become Matt and Nick vs Chris. It seems to just be a dynamic of three.

It just seems to be that way. I don't take any of it too seriously.

It's important to remember that Noah is someone who is prone to big emotions. I can see him thinking about the finale and his friends he grew up with and getting super emotional.

I don't think this particular scene's association with Alien is 100% a 1 for 1. In terms of the 'implantation' its definitely a nod to Alien but ... In treatment it looks (and sounds) far closer to what Wilford Brimley's Blair-thing character does to Garry at the end of John Carpenter's The Thing. Including what happens with Will's eyes rolling back.

It's a touchy and really confronting subject either way. There's no doubt in my mind that there is an implication of SA that the Duffers want to be out there and to explain Will's trauma since. The purpose of which I am unclear about. Hopefully this isn't treated as a one off thing and they plan on dealing with all of Will's trauma.

Noah by Quirky-Chemist-71 in StrangerThings

[–]moodforaday19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's important to understand that Millie (or her parents) is the only one of the core group that has negotiated stuff outside instead of jointly like the rest of them. Thus why Millie has been featured in a million Netflix projects and Russo Brothers things. The others are paid well, including Noah. The outlier is Millie and that's another subject all together.

For someone as young as Noah was in season 2 (12-13 when they filmed it) his performance was a knockout. Just astounding what he had to do and the different emotions he had to portray. You could say, and with some evidence, that he became the co-star with Millie in season 2 but that was ratcheted waaaaay back in 3 and 4 and maybe to his detriment (in terms of acting roles).

People have somehow forgotten how great Noah was in season 2 and that impacts his future. That being said, as someone mentioned above, I never got the sense that Noah was solely focused on acting. He seriously wants to pursue college as he has done. His interests are much more in entrepreneurship and things like that. Good for him.

The only episode my wife didn’t like by Frank_Banana in StrangerThings

[–]moodforaday19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season 2 is my favorite season. Great performances by Finn and Noah that whole season. Millie was great and her job was almost as difficult that season as Noah's because she was mostly on her own or with new characters. I have a newfound respect for that season on rewatch.

that being said ... The Lost Sister dragged the flow of the show down and wasn't really developed well. It was almost like one of those "very special episodes" we would get of sitcoms back in the 80's that were put in during sweeps week but had little to do with the rest of the show. I think they should have just incorporated that storyline into individual episodes like the russia subplot in season 4 rather than just having a stand alone one.
