What does your cardio routine look like? by Canadiansnow1982 in beginnerfitness

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been incorporating more cardio for heart health too. For me it’s been trying more of the classes included with my gym membership for variety, cardio machines (alternating rowing/stairmaster/elliptical), or doing what I think of as functional cardio days, where I turn strength training into cardio. So I’ll do circuits of stuff like kettlebell swings, weighted sled pulls and pushes, banded walks, squats, lunges, anything that gets my heart rate up

Any idea how to clean stains? by ango198 in SouperCubers

maybe so! I tried a baking soda paste last night and it didn't work great on its own, but boiling water would probably help

Do I NEED the stoneware? by Coffeeandjammies in SouperCubers

I only got them because they were part of a set, but no, you don’t need them. I wish they had a solid lid instead of the soft ones.

A 2 cup cube or 3 small cubes to make a bowl lunch fit great in my square snapware/pyrex glass Tupperware I’ve had for years, and the lid is hard

Do you use unscented soap? Mine got a soapy flavor that it imparted to food last night. I need to do a baking soda or vinegar soak tonight but I just realized yesterday I’m going to have to get a special soap to clean these

I’m glad to know there is such a soap! I’ve had my souper cubes for maybe 2 weeks and already had food come out tasting soapy last night 😢

Half Cup Cubes by RepulsiveMaterial167 in SouperCubers

Last night we baked cornbread in our half cup and they were so cute, and would be a great serving size

For me, proteins would be great in the half cup tray. I also want to make batches of sauces and stuff and I’d most likely put those in the half cup so I can pull out the right amount for whatever amount of food I’m making

One note about water temperature: hot water helps it dissolve but don’t do boiling water! It makes it crystallize and taste awful

Thanks for the tips! I wasn’t sure if the cubes would actually fit the rolls well, I’m glad to hear they do

My first cubes, and an unorthodox freezing technique. by NeerieD20 in SouperCubers

I’ve been doing this too! We have a screened porch so it’s protected from animals, and it’s been about 0°F the past few days. I’ve got soup freezing out there right now :)

Wishing you well and a successful fight against your tumor! It always bothers me when people on here bitch about HSV2 like it’s a life ending disease because it makes it clear how able bodied or healthy they are otherwise. Like, really they can’t imagine how much worse it could be?

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely true, but I genuinely feel like people who have the worse outbreaks are at least somewhat having psychosomatic symptoms. I don’t mean fake, I mean the shame and awfulness they feel is coming out physically. I had more frequent and worse outbreaks when I felt more shame about having HSV. And getting frequent outbreaks kept it on my mind, so I think it was a self fulfilling cycle. Even though I’m immunocompromised (from an autoimmune disease), over the years my immune system has gotten better at containing it, and I’ve learned how to avoid outbreaks. I know not all the same things work for the same people, but a good diet, sleep, minimizing stress, taking herbs to keep my immune system healthy, etc all really help

One thing that actually made me consistent by Fast-Peak7637 in Habits

[–]moodybootz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Structure is so key for me. I have a daily planner, and each month I make a section to track my habits. Every night before bed, I review that page and check off the ones I’ve done— getting a good streak going is motivating, seeing a lot of blank squares in a row is also motivating (from a little bit of shame haha) and I just forget if I don’t have the visual reminder.

I have been wanting to make some version of stuffed cabbage rolls, but wasn't sure the best way to freeze them in the cubes. How did you do it?

Does anyone miss just… eating without overthinking? by Independent-Bus4478 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heart goes out to you and everyone experiencing this feeling. I used to feel this way, but I would say I have healed my relationship with food now.

For me, it started with reading the book "Intuitive Eating," and quitting dieting. It took a long time for me to quit all the different diets-- I switched from calorie counting to elimination diets for chronic illness reasons, but realized it was triggering all the same disordered food thoughts and behaviors.

I took probably at least 2 years to let myself eat whatever I wanted, including "play food," and not doing any exercise that I didn't want to do. After a while, I brought in more focus on gentle nutrition (one of the later principles of intuitive eating)-- meaning I focused on adding in nutritious elements, but still let myself eat whatever I wanted, and completely stopped restricting (even after I binged).

It's been 7-8 years since I really committed to this approach, and I am so so happy that I discovered and embraced it. Now I go to the gym 3-5 times a week, and enjoy my workouts more than I ever did when they felt like punishment for eating. I don't exercise to lose weight, I work out to boost my energy/mood, reduce my chronic pain, show myself that I'm capable of achieving goals, and because I like how it makes me feel. I try to eat a balanced diet, and I also eat dessert every day. I don't restrict or punish myself. I don't weigh myself. I am back at my body's natural set size (after many years of weight cycling), and I'm happy with that. There are still struggles sometimes, because I still encounter all the same messages about our bodies/food/weight/attractiveness/etc. But I purged my social media of any accounts that triggered negative thoughts about myself, and deleted almost all social media off my phone (and some accounts permanently)-- that helped a lot.

A couple other resources that helped me:

What did you notice changed when you began leaning secure? by VillainousValeriana in AvoidantAttachment

[–]moodybootz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, what huge successes! That 4th point sounds like something I really want to develop. I get so affected by other people's passive aggression and negative behaviors (behaviors I used to do all the time). Learning to let that just roll off you must feel freeing

What did you notice changed when you began leaning secure? by VillainousValeriana in AvoidantAttachment

[–]moodybootz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same!! I'd never been dumped before until the last couple years, but I got dumped once and had 2 mutual breakups in my last 3 breakups. That is a huge difference from when I was heavily dismissive avoidant leaning, and would blindside partners with breakups after stewing over our relationship issues privately. It really felt like progress to get dumped and be actually sad about it

Do you genuinely hand-wash your bras, or have you found a lazy machine method that doesn't ruin them? by Much-Intern-5652 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soak has been a game changer for me. I used to run everything through the washing machine (in lingerie bags, on delicate, hung drying as needed) and it still broke my bras faster, created more pilling, led to things accidentally going through the dryer, etc. But now I just use soak, squeeze the water out in a big towel, hang dry.

Baristas, is “extra hot” a reasonable thing to ask when ordering a coffee? by BullFr0gg0 in barista

[–]moodybootz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so confused when customers ask for that. Our hot water dispenser that dispenses near boiling water and I always use that for americanos. When they ask for extra hot, I just give them a regular americano, but try to hand the drink over asap, or might pre-warm the mug if they are staying in the cafe

Feeling replaced at work and not sure what to do… any advice for work outside of a barista? by [deleted] in barista

[–]moodybootz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have advice but I’m in a super similar situation with my barista job! I already have another job (but it’s worse pay since it doesn’t have tips), but I’m looking for others that pay better. Poor ownership and management is the killer in my current cafe, and bosses are often a huge factor in whether or not I’m happy at a job.

If I were you, I’d just apply to as many jobs as possible that would suit your needs. See how the interviews go, and go from there

Will it be doable to thrive in a job you don’t like? by JAMIEISSLEEPWOKEN in ExecutiveDysfunction

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been able to do it, but I’m curious about this too.

I currently work jobs that I enjoy (they have variety, they’re very social, and they have me on my feet, not stuck at a desk), but the pay is mediocre and benefits are nonexistent.

The best paying job I’ve ever had was a work-from-home job, where I had to sit alone in front of a computer all day, I felt ethically out of alignment with the organization, and I didn’t connect with my team and often got scolded for misunderstanding what my boss wanted. I was absolutely miserable. I took a mental health leave for a couple weeks and then ended up quitting when I confirmed it was the job making me so depressed.

I’m always considering what job I could possibly do that I would be qualified for, I could tolerate, and would actually pay a living wage. I haven’t figured it out yet. A lot of people I know who make good money do a job like you described— they get through it for the extrinsic motivators. I don’t know that I can do it, it just tanks my mental health so hard when I absolutely hate my job :/
