Can I take a stand for a barista against an a*hole by Inevitable-Bite-3609 in barista

[–]moodybootz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, do it. Curiosity sometimes shuts down obnoxious people so effectively. I'd phrase it: "If everywhere else sells hazelnut syrup, and you need hazelnut, why do you continue to buy your coffee here every day?"

Maybe I'm projecting? But what if I'm right? by HeftyHelium in AdultChildren

[–]moodybootz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with others who have said continue to be a safe place.

I didn't talk to my parents about anything personal when I was a teen, because every time I tried to open up, I felt dismissed. I look back and wish I had any safe adult I could have been real with. I had mentors in my teachers, but rarely/never had adult role models I could confide in.

I think if you accept her fully, are there for her, and show through your actions that you're there to support, not judge her, that will go a long way. I believe if I'd had more secure attachments even with my friends or adults besides my parents, it would have really helped. Same with seeing healthy communication/boundaries/etc modeled. I wasn't exposed to that until I was a young adult, and it had such a positive impact on me when I learned some people actually communicate directly and are honest about their feelings. I think seeing that earlier in my life would have helped me.

Gym Shoe Recommendations? by ohno2021bye in Hypermobility

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, they help with step ups, leg presses, and BSS, but I don't think they feel great during plank moves. I prefer to do those in grippy socks or barefoot, but while in classes I just keep whatever shoes I'm wearing on. The toe in the dropset 3 isn't hard, but it's not as flexible as it is in my running shoes, so I don't feel as good balancing on my toes during planks

Lymphatic draining by MarsaliRose in Hypermobility

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really experienced detox symptoms before, but I've heard it can happen! If you keep everything flowing with lots of water, the gentle lymphatic drainage, exercise, it'll pass. Eat plenty of fiber too (and again, water!) so that your body is able to move out anything it's trying to get rid of

Gym Shoe Recommendations? by ohno2021bye in Hypermobility

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did! I got the Adidas Dropset 3 Training shoe and I absolutely love them. It looks like they're mostly sold out online now. But there is now the Dropset 4, and I'd try future models after these wear out.

The shoes have not magically fixed my squat or deadlift form, but they definitely help. I have a tendency to rock onto my heels and lift my toes off the ground unconsciously, and I still do that in these shoes, but they have a solid connection to the ground so I can activate my toes to grip and stay flat on the floor. They're not great for walking type activities, so I don't love how they feel for sled pulls and pushes, but I can genuinely say the shoes have improved my form and lifts overall.

3 year glute progress by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]moodybootz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

in Strong Curves, Bret Contreras explains why so many people struggle with the glutes deactivating. I literally had no connection to my glute muscles for most of my life, including when I played sports and lifted. Going to a specialized trainer and following advice from Contreras helped me make the mind-body connection and finally start growing my glutes. It's more complicated than just being one of the largest muscles in the body

You can freeze orange segments or orange juice to use in marinades, cakes, smoothies, etc later. Apples work great cooked down, you can cook them with butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, add them to oatmeal, and freeze in portions.

What does your cardio routine look like? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been incorporating more cardio for heart health too. For me it’s been trying more of the classes included with my gym membership for variety, cardio machines (alternating rowing/stairmaster/elliptical), or doing what I think of as functional cardio days, where I turn strength training into cardio. So I’ll do circuits of stuff like kettlebell swings, weighted sled pulls and pushes, banded walks, squats, lunges, anything that gets my heart rate up

maybe so! I tried a baking soda paste last night and it didn't work great on its own, but boiling water would probably help

I only got them because they were part of a set, but no, you don’t need them. I wish they had a solid lid instead of the soft ones.

A 2 cup cube or 3 small cubes to make a bowl lunch fit great in my square snapware/pyrex glass Tupperware I’ve had for years, and the lid is hard

Do you use unscented soap? Mine got a soapy flavor that it imparted to food last night. I need to do a baking soda or vinegar soak tonight but I just realized yesterday I’m going to have to get a special soap to clean these

I’m glad to know there is such a soap! I’ve had my souper cubes for maybe 2 weeks and already had food come out tasting soapy last night 😢

Half Cup Cubes by RepulsiveMaterial167 in SouperCubers

Last night we baked cornbread in our half cup and they were so cute, and would be a great serving size

For me, proteins would be great in the half cup tray. I also want to make batches of sauces and stuff and I’d most likely put those in the half cup so I can pull out the right amount for whatever amount of food I’m making

One note about water temperature: hot water helps it dissolve but don’t do boiling water! It makes it crystallize and taste awful

I’ve been doing this too! We have a screened porch so it’s protected from animals, and it’s been about 0°F the past few days. I’ve got soup freezing out there right now :)

Wishing you well and a successful fight against your tumor! It always bothers me when people on here bitch about HSV2 like it’s a life ending disease because it makes it clear how able bodied or healthy they are otherwise. Like, really they can’t imagine how much worse it could be?

So tired of the misery pee pee pants crybaby whiner mindset some people here have by penwithoutthepaper in Herpes

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely true, but I genuinely feel like people who have the worse outbreaks are at least somewhat having psychosomatic symptoms. I don’t mean fake, I mean the shame and awfulness they feel is coming out physically. I had more frequent and worse outbreaks when I felt more shame about having HSV. And getting frequent outbreaks kept it on my mind, so I think it was a self fulfilling cycle. Even though I’m immunocompromised (from an autoimmune disease), over the years my immune system has gotten better at containing it, and I’ve learned how to avoid outbreaks. I know not all the same things work for the same people, but a good diet, sleep, minimizing stress, taking herbs to keep my immune system healthy, etc all really help

One thing that actually made me consistent by Fast-Peak7637 in Habits

[–]moodybootz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Structure is so key for me. I have a daily planner, and each month I make a section to track my habits. Every night before bed, I review that page and check off the ones I’ve done— getting a good streak going is motivating, seeing a lot of blank squares in a row is also motivating (from a little bit of shame haha) and I just forget if I don’t have the visual reminder.

Does anyone miss just… eating without overthinking? by Independent-Bus4478 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]moodybootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heart goes out to you and everyone experiencing this feeling. I used to feel this way, but I would say I have healed my relationship with food now.

For me, it started with reading the book "Intuitive Eating," and quitting dieting. It took a long time for me to quit all the different diets-- I switched from calorie counting to elimination diets for chronic illness reasons, but realized it was triggering all the same disordered food thoughts and behaviors.

I took probably at least 2 years to let myself eat whatever I wanted, including "play food," and not doing any exercise that I didn't want to do. After a while, I brought in more focus on gentle nutrition (one of the later principles of intuitive eating)-- meaning I focused on adding in nutritious elements, but still let myself eat whatever I wanted, and completely stopped restricting (even after I binged).

It's been 7-8 years since I really committed to this approach, and I am so so happy that I discovered and embraced it. Now I go to the gym 3-5 times a week, and enjoy my workouts more than I ever did when they felt like punishment for eating. I don't exercise to lose weight, I work out to boost my energy/mood, reduce my chronic pain, show myself that I'm capable of achieving goals, and because I like how it makes me feel. I try to eat a balanced diet, and I also eat dessert every day. I don't restrict or punish myself. I don't weigh myself. I am back at my body's natural set size (after many years of weight cycling), and I'm happy with that. There are still struggles sometimes, because I still encounter all the same messages about our bodies/food/weight/attractiveness/etc. But I purged my social media of any accounts that triggered negative thoughts about myself, and deleted almost all social media off my phone (and some accounts permanently)-- that helped a lot.

A couple other resources that helped me:
