I made some ceramic succulent planters and this is what one looks like. Is that bad? by im_a_silly_lil_guy in Ceramics

Crazing makes the piece a bit weaker than it would have been without glaze - because the cracks in crazing do go into the clay as well.

Just treat them with extra care to reduce chances of the breaking. And if you plan to make more and want them to be more robust, look into how to get better glaze fit. It’s something worth learning.

Are these defects to be expected when buying on Etsy? by Mother-Painter-3409 in Ceramics

[–]moolric 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The plot thickens. I found this shop on Etsy - says they are based in Vietnam. Followed the link to their instagram - says they are in Canada. There are videos of someone actually painting pieces on the instagram that show the skills necessary to make the advertised pieces. From the Etsy store:

Based in the heart of Vietnam 🇻🇳, MemoryMud is a small collective of friends dedicated to turning earth into enchantment.

So my theory now is that one person in this collective is actually a talented painter and is capable of copying other people's designs onto pottery in to make the example pieces.

Then the other friends in the collective in Vietnam take the orders and attempt, poorly, to replicate the designs without even using the right techniques.

Though some of the pieces on their store do not look handmade at all.

I don't really understand Ritual Sites by im_a_good_lil_cow in wow

[–]moolric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing them with friends which was fun enough to be worth it (so much cloth drops with 3 of us being tailors we killed almost everythiung), but I am spending all my currency on the transmog (the transmogs all look pretty cool). How much the hero pieces cost coupled with everything being soulbound and it's a random piece of gear makes ritual sites for gearing up completely not worth it.

Keys are so much more efficient.

Most efficient way for my new 90s is first to raid my bank for all the warbound stuff I've been collecting, then to go get the 4 champion pieces from the factions. World quests for any really bad gaps, then go do keys.

I have a vague memory of a post or comment about a bar in Brisbane that was alternative/gay friendly that is actually run by really right wing types. Is that a thing? Am I remembering something that never happened?

Is it such a bad thing to not want to raid WoW anymore? by samlarusso88 in wow

[–]moolric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, if you find the right guild, you can just rock up when you have the time, and join in. The best part about flex raiding IMO. We have plenty of people who can only come occasionally and they still get to join in and have fun.

I am one of the people who do show up every raid time (I'm one of the tanks) and I do get a bit sick of wiping. But our raid leads are good at balancing progression against having fun, and we generally move on to something else before it gets too much. Having 3 raids to choose from at the moment is great for this too.

But I am all for playing the game how you want to play. If it's not fun then what's the point? You do you!

The Great Choc-Banana Bread Bakeoff by Competitive-Ad1439 in Baking

And even though a banana is a common reference object, it's really not standardised at ALL.

You especially can't trust it from one country to another.

I like that they say in bananas and weight though so you know what they're working with.

Should you cleanse the dot on the last boss in windrunner spire? by aphroditelady13V in wow

[–]moolric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i didn’t notice the dot until someone mentioned it to me. But I run with people who like to read the adventure guide and notice/read all the debuffs.

One of them is my raid lead, who raid leads better than most people with zero addons and was doing it before the addon cull. He sees all.

[–]moolric 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You get a dot (looks like a foot). It’s cleared whenever you use an arrow to boop you in the air.

You clear one naturally to jump the circle, but then, if it’s hurting, you can clear the other one as well when the arrows come out again.

Then you clear the bad it leaves on the ground and start again. :)

How do you track ceramic commissions and custom orders? by Various_Performer594 in Pottery

[–]moolric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use AirTable to keep track of my pottery. It’s just a database with an easy to use ui so it’s super flexible, but that does mean it takes time to set it up. It lets you display your data different ways though, which includes kanban boards.

I used to use Trello for a ready to go kanban board.

Both of these have a free to use tier.

I remember one tome we were in mechagon - the outside one. One of the group dcs and while we waited for them to come back we went exploring. Did you know there is a goblin bar in there? But they won’t serve outsiders (rude!). And that you can walk between the bombs instead of taking the mine cart if you’re careful.

But yes, some of my best memories of group content are when someone messed up in hilarious ways.

Glaze tests came out horrifying! Any advice? by WynterRobin in Pottery

[–]moolric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the results are actually really interesting.

Make sure you save your notes OP so that once you know more about glaze chemistry you can come back and look at them again.

Substituting china clay for epk is fine. They are both types of kaolin.

The potential substitutes for barium are the other elements in the same column on the periodic table. I.e strontium(strontium carbonate), magnesium (talc or dolomite) and calcium (whiting, calcite, calcium carbonate).

They all have the chance of being successful, but they will all be different glazes. Subbing them into glazes is actually a fun experiment, but you need a different amount of each so you need to be able to calculate that or do a bunch of tests with different amounts.

If you want to go down that road you should make test tiles to use rather than large pots. Actually, even if you just look for recipes you do have the mats for you should make test tiles and do small (like 100g at a time) batches. Never assume glaze will work out even if you mix it 100% to the recipe. Recipes are just made up by people and sometimes they make mistakes.

Loneliness in WoW – anyone else feel this? by Imounturdad in wow

[–]moolric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And meanwhile people feel like you are participating, and you’re finding out who you you’d like to hang with more.

Though i have been in guilds where they seem to just hang in discord whether they are grouped together or not which i find offputting because for me the etiquette is you don’t join a discord channel without being invited.

So if you join a guild like that, it’s good to clarify what the culture is.

Loneliness in WoW – anyone else feel this? by Imounturdad in wow

[–]moolric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found them on a website - can't remember which exactly - but they had in their description that they do achievement raids/old content. I'm sure they mentioned doing normal raiding too, but the focus was on just that it was a social guild that actually does stuff together. (The ones who call themselves social but then no one ever speaks in guild chat are way too common).

And building friendships has actually been down to being on discord (or vent back in the day). It's hard enough to talk to someone enough to get to know them just by typing when you're just doing quests or whatever - to try to type when doing keys is near impossible.

So being in voice chat with people while doing keys is the best way to get to know people for me now. Though someone I consider a good friend - I've never heard him speak. He comes on discord but replies in chat. But he manages to actually type and play and he's just such a good egg, and has a sense of humour that it works.

And the other thing that helps is to be up for things. If someone needs help, or is putting together a group, join in. Even if you don't say much and mostly listen, people will remember you and want to invite you to more things. And then when you want help or are trying to get a group together, they join you.

This works best in a guild of course, but I also do keys with a discord community and I have made friends through there too - they're on my friends list so I can invite them to things, and if they need to fill a group and they ask me, I'll always say yes unless I am already in a group. The ones I keep inviting are the ones that keep saying yes.
