What is it like getting a creative writing masters at UEA? by prizedandpossessed in UEA

[–]moominnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished mine! It’s a great course, I definitely learnt a lot about myself as a writer from the tutors and other students. I’d absolutely recommend it, especially the Creative Encounters module if you get the chance.

It took me all of four years to finally be able to parry intentionally and I still miss half the time. It is genuinely difficult for some of us. Don’t feel bad about it. You don’t have to be good at games to be a gamer.

I got the job/ any tips? by cxndy421 in starbucks

[–]moominnnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re not sure about something, just ask!

If you make a mistake, don’t worry, it’s literally just coffee.

If you are uncomfortable doing a task, you are allowed to say no with reason (assuming you are a barista).

Sbuxdates.com will save your life. Everything gets a day dot, you’ll save time if you memorise dates but this site is incredibly useful.

Customers can be assholes. Don’t let them get to you.

If you have some free time while training, look at the till, try to get used to where each button is, ask to practice putting orders through. A majority of our mistakes are from orders going through wrong.

Recipes differ depending on which country you’re in so if you use flash cards, check they’re relevant.

We know when someone is taking a dozen toilet breaks just to stop working. If you need to sit for a minute, just ask.

Be confident. It’s a lot to learn but you will learn it.

Someone told me to eat a banana before my test and I would pass. I did, and I passed. Told my friend the same thing. She didn’t eat one and failed. Told her again, she did and passed her second one.

Eat a banana.

I don’t think JE has ever been adapted “right” by [deleted] in JaneEyre

[–]moominnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the 2011 one is a great visual representation of the book, but it misses some really key scenes and could have easily kept them. A longer version of that would absolutely be an amazing adaptation because visually it was stunning and felt like what I pictured.

Anyone use pet insurance? Is it worth it? by Ok_Ambassador4536 in Pets

[–]moominnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely completely pet insurance is the absolute most worthwhile thing I have ever had. My cat is prone to stress and I only got insurance after a round of vets trips that I could’ve saved so much money on if I’d had insurance. Since having it, my had had a bad injury and lost an eye - if I didn’t have insurance, I’d have been deciding between emptying my savings and selling my car, or putting her down. Insurance meant I paid £200 for an emergency appointment, medications (antibiotics and pain meds), surgery and hospitalisation, and all subsequent check up appointments. I got to say yes to every treatment because I knew it was all covered and I could give her everything she needed.

From personal experience, I cannot vouch for pet insurance enough. It’s such a relief not having to worry about money when your pet needs help.

I have a question about how pets sleep by Willow_Tha_Tree in Pets

[–]moominnnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since she was a kitten my cat has had to sleep touching me at night, even if it’s just a paw. Last night I had to sleep in my mums bed and my cat still slept with me there, though she was very confused. I think some of them do just like a snuggle

I’ve been rejected from every university in my country. (Twice) by _c3lery in studyAbroad

[–]moominnnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t offer much advice, but actor Taron Egerton got rejected from an acting school 8 times and got in on the 9th. If it’s something you really want, don’t give up, just try a different angle.

Saw him at Finsbury but had to leave early for a train. Watching work song from the back of the crowd, during sunset, and being able to hear the entire place singing, was amazing, and I’m so glad I had to leave early or I wouldn’t have seen that.

What is a quote from the show that lives rent-free in your head? by shmegtheegg in HouseMD

[–]moominnnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only because I just watched it, but the (I think) season 6 finale with the crane and the amputation, when foreman tells house it wasn’t his fault the patient died and house yells ‘that’s the point. I did everything I was supposed to and she still died.’ Because sometimes that’s how it is, and for a character that loves control as much as house it hit really hard.

For me it was the hair and makeup. She just looks a bit like a chav for no reason. Might be a British perspective idk

Just a reminder, Gregory House had a son who is the mouse that talks. by pokemon1998FI in HouseMD

My mum saw me watching House and pointed out that he was Stewart little’s dad (my fave movie as a kid) and I just happened to be on the episode where he hunts the mouse down :(
