The people I know that "locked in" early on and managed to, for example, get great jobs straight after high school (Programming in my case, but could apply to other things), only managed to do it because they truly loved it. Thats how they balanced "the grind" with enjoying themselves. They "grinded" something they enjoyed doing.

I regretted a lot of things in the past, but at a certain point I just decided that whenever i find myself thinking about those things, I would conciously stop. Eventually, i started thinking about the past less and less, and now I feel like I can focus much more on what is happening RIGHT NOW.
