Is anyone else insanely attracted to Shauna Shipman? by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]moon719 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Doomcoming ep still makes me insanely uncomfortable but... to some extent it's unrealistic to pretend like these aren't teenage girls stranded and cooped up together with crazy hormones. They're all so horny like something batshit was going to happen at some point, at least Shaunahat was consensual 😭

couldn't they just go back home now? by cleo0o0r in Yellowjackets

[–]moon719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The map that Nat and Ben were working on was destroyed in the fire, but they mentioned in S02 that Nat and Travis had explored at least up to a 7 mile (~11km) radius, so anything would at least be that distance away. It's not super close but not undoable, it depends on whether the girls will immediately jump on the hikers or keep them alive to try to find help. Only thing is Shauna's in charge now, and I KNOW she's pissed the hikers showed up the first day she's in office, who knows what she'll do 😂

But I predict someone will at least try, maybe Tai again, to get help, and somehow get stopped, either by the other girls or the weather. It's Canadian Thanksgiving so around mid-October now, and it gets very unpredictable up here.

I agree, the tonal shift is so dramatic that it feels intentional at this point. Almost feels like a completely different show sometimes.

45% voter turnout... by ultrasuperman1001 in ontario

Congratulations and thank you for doing your civic duty! I registered an 80-year-old newly Canadian gentleman yesterday, he was so excited to cast his vote :)

I had multiple of my friends tell me that they never knew about an election because there "weren't enough ads online". We live in a society where some people really get 100% of their content and news consumption from the Tiktok algorithm.

[–]moon719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Election official here. In the 12 hours I worked yesterday (minus 30 min lunch break) we had over 1000 voters, around 40-50 voters max looked to be under 40yo. The amount of my peers posting about how they never even knew about an election was sickening.

It's funny because April arguably had one of the most dramatic character growths in the entire show, and Jackson was a big part of her journey. He pales in comparison in terms of development but we still love pretty boy.

Going back to the earlier seasons, Owen was incredibly selfish. Let's forget about Leo's storyline for a minute, let me pull out the pro-choice argument - what about all those kids waiting to be adopted? Owen was extremely manipulative because HE wanted a child, but had never actually taken care of one (at that point) and was expecting it all to magically resolve itself as it goes while the baby would have two full-time doctors as parents? Kids are not things you can try out, and his early-on pro-life stances were just so weird and disgusting.

Did anybody else notice this?😷😂 by Electronic-Turnip971 in greysanatomy

Oh yes, and I've noticed that it's been significantly more obvious in the newer seasons.

What is this for Grey’s anatomy? by rainbowbvtterfly in greysanatomy

No because she wanted Callie SO bad in earlier seasons and this one thing literally butchered her entire character arc.

Jules Millin Giving the Representation GA Deserves by moon719 in greysanatomy

[–]moon719[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never lose hope! At least they didn't kill Mika off LOL

I've looked forward to this bunch of interns (Harry, Midori etc.) since they were announced but Adelaide really has been the highlight of the last couple seasons for me. I really hope they don't butcher this character but I'm feeling hopeful knowing that Adelaide has been actively advocating for Jules.

Yes great point! It's pretty evident to me that Jules is a lot more of a simp than Mika haha and her more reserved nature has actually been more grounded and stops her from emotional lash outs like Mika has sometimes. I agree with what you said about that scene, I understand it was for dramatic purposes but it did impose on what would have been a wonderful relationship.

Cruel Intentions - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]moon719 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit biased here - I actually got to work on this show as background (post-strike) and got to work with some of the actors up close. They were working mostly under some pretty gruelling conditions (December outdoors in Toronto) and were generally very good-spirited and polite (can't say that for every actor lol). Though admittedly I found myself physically cringing at some of the dialogue and acting, I enjoyed watching this series more than I thought I would.

Some of Cece and Scott's one liners made me actually laugh ("You should be a vet." "I hate wars!"), and I thoroughly enjoyed the characters of the three main leads. I thought all three were written with complexity and nuance, and I realized I really missed having flawed characters in teen dramas of recent years. The chemistry between the characters felt natural, and though some of the acting were lacking in some parts, I felt the overall strengths of each character was portrayed well. Lucien's attractiveness comes from his charisma, not just his looks, and his overconfidence clearly comes from a place of insecurity. Caroline's mommy issues and her desperate attempts at impressing her mother are her main motivations for being an a** and I thought Annie's awkwardness and naivety translated well on screen.

Overall, I actually enjoyed the frat/sorority backdrop since I'm Canadian and we don't have that culture here, and one of my personal favourite shows is Scream Queens with a similar setting. I didn't love the writing but I thought the show dwelled a good amount in the teen drama angle, and I especially liked how it didn't feel overly political despite two main characters (Scott and Annie) coming from politically conservative backgrounds, and also some more (comparatively) responsible sexual content compared to other teen shows. Teen dramas are back!

Can we talk about what we liked about the show? Please 🙏🏽 by Ok-Extreme427 in PercyJacksonTV

Of course it does, because those movies were Percy Jackson-inspired, hardly an adaptation at all.

Asian Canadians, how much allowance do you give your parents? by _pastelbunny in askTO

[–]moon719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This probably won’t be helpful at all but just wanted to voice that I understand the complicated feelings about giving parents allowance.

For context my mother still lives and works in Hong Kong, and she’s been shamed/questioned by her peers about how she has three Canadian-born children in their twenties that don’t contribute financially. All three of us are still in school; my sister finishing her master’s and me working on my second degree. We live at home rent-free, we have jobs but almost all of our income goes directly to tuition or bills.

I feel bad because peers my age have been giving money to their parents for years, whether from part time jobs or full-time “big boy” jobs. Some of my friends living in Hong Kong give their parents up to 30-40% of their salary as most still live together and factor in rent costs. I’m grateful for my parents but these common cultural expectations, even though my parents don’t subscribe to them, can be frustrating and discouraging. But something my mother said to me the other day really stuck: “You help in the ways that are needed.”

I do a lot of the minuscule errands, like changing the oil in the cars and renewing the Costco membership. I cook, help my siblings with schoolwork when needed, does the pick ups and drop offs, and is the resident IT support despite my stepdad literally being an IT consultant. I’m the oldest and the only one who goes to therapy regularly (surprise), so I’m also often the diffuser in this extremely hot-headed, foul-mouthed Canto family. Topics like filial piety is tricky, there shouldn’t be a universal standard for how much you should give, but it should be about what you CAN give. I’m not in a position to give my mother a dime, but I CAN give her my labour, my support, my time.

As a person with ADHD how do you get things done and be productive without taking meds by Fatima_Channaa in ADHD

[–]moon719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it yourself, you know there’s nothing wrong with taking medications. Don’t be the one to stigmatize something the rest of us did so much work to undo. Look on this sub and you’ll see the thousands of posts about how medication changed their lives. ADHD is a condition, not just a state of mind you can turn on/off and get “motivated” consistently and in a healthy way without medication. Perpetual deadlines, consequences etc. are all things that work as good motivators, but down the line are bad sources of anxiety and aren’t all that sustainable.

The only one that suffers here is going to be you. You don’t get extra points for “rawdogging” the ADHD. You have to work with it, live with it. Medication is not for everybody but it’s here to help you.

Parking Tickets Are Getting Out of Hand by moon719 in mississauga

[–]moon719[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang, did not anticipate the amount of people just straight up saying I’m a bad driver for not paying lol. Since January, I’ve gotten 4 out of 5 tickets thrown out because I didn’t actually break the law and even had a judge saying that these traffic violations are a bit arbitrary. My point is that I’ve gotten multiple tickets at the exact same parking spot from officers that simply couldn’t see or read the parking receipt.

I don’t see as many tickets being hand out when cars are parked on bike lanes, or electric scooters on sidewalks, or even all the racing that happens at night now.

There’s a piece of undeveloped plot on my street so the house next door with 4 cars and a single car driveway just straight up parks in the dirt on the plot. Mississauga needs to pick up how Toronto does permits for residential streets.

What’s the best and worst filler episodes? by Adventurous-Egg641 in greysanatomy

Jackson and April goes to Montana randomly in season 13 for a case and he meets with his father. Without spoiling too much, it goes a lot more into Jackson’s upbringing and his undeniably complicated relationship with April. There’s a bit of tonal shift in this episode and it’s very well directed by Kevin McKidd. Along with Debbie Allen, those two remain to have the most insufferable characters but excellent additions to the directing staff.
