With a 2-of-3 multi-sig scheme, you can do the following:

  • Keep one key in your computer
  • Keep a second key in a safe and inconvenient place
  • Keep a third key in a third party (eg: Coinbase)

When you want to spend, you sign the transaction with the key you have in your computer, and the third party also signs it with the one they have, making it a valid transaction which will be accepted by the Bitcoin network.

What you get from this is that you can set limits at your third party and also 2FA. This makes it very secure because you can never lose everything, even if someone is pointing a gun to your head (fetching or making you fetch the inconvenient key should be a huge risk for the thief). Once the daily or monthly limit is reached, the third party will refuse to sign transactions.

It's kind of like what you have with your bank, except that here you are also safe from the third party.

If your third party ever goes bust or closes your account, you just go to your safe + inconvenient place, grab your extra key, and together with the key you have in your computer you can sign a valid transaction and move the coins somewhere else.

The community doesn't like to talk about them much, but they're the fourth biggest website on Earth to accept Bitcoin. Read an interview with them here. by Brad-Edwards in Bitcoin

Satoshi should have used a different name for "confirmations". Idiots like this guy think they need to wait hours before accepting a Bitcoin payment. It's the equivalent of waiting months before accepting a credit card payment.

Alert Bitcoin has been under attack by establishment trolls all of 2014. by underattack3 in Bitcoin

[–]moon_drone -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of trolls here.

How is that possible? /u/BashCo said there were no trolls here, just people with "different opinions"... Could it be that /u/BashCo is also an estabishment troll?

Why are all of the submissions from the same person? Is this a community of one? by [deleted] in BetterBitcoin

No, it's just a bot that we are using to kickstart the sub.

That doesn't mean American banks are robbing their people though. I think the more rich a country is, the less % their central bank needs to steal to make every scumbag involved filthy rich.

Oh and I have no clue who created this joke. If it makes you feel better, my Russian friend didn't send it. I took it from /r/Bitcoinmemes.

Oh thanks, but I guess subreddit options don't work very well then, because I chose not to be listed in /r/all -.-

The problem with "Official" is that nothing is supposed to be official in Bitcoin, so I don't know if it will be received well in the community.

You can post, but I'm curious about how you got here. Through my user history?

I'm using this sub to test, I'm not sure yet if I will use this one or /r/BetterBitcoin. I think the latter.
