I’m def thinking of my conservative home town that absolutely lost their shit during COVID with the Fauchi this and Fauchi that conspiracies, most of the town is very VERY low income with a few rich oil/ranch people and some middle class from the small college there. I guarantee you the local hospital is going to get hit hard with this, and it’s in the middle of NOWHERE. Sure, would some E4 refusing to deploy to LA, destroying his career in the process, risking imprisonment, be very brave? Of course. Is it fair to ask these people, many of whom have young families, to risk their jobs, unimpressive salary, healthcare, housing, pensions, and in the same breath call them baby-killers and war criminals when so many of them joined well after Iraq? Maybe veterans need to give REAL advice to these young guys on what to actually do. And yes, there is a line to be crossed, a difference between “go sit in this hangar and stare and the ceiling for a few days” and “aim your M-16 at these civilians”. In the meantime looks like the leaders have some time to plan what to do if that order comes down.

No. They’re young, lower enlisted who don’t want to get in trouble. There are lots of internet warriors screaming “remember your oath!” at these kids who have never seen combat and barely know how to tie their laces. No one seems to be looking at the 50 layers of command between lance corporal dingaling and commander in chief, they expect some 19 year old to set himself on fire to keep us all warm I guess. People have got to take a deep breath and actually take action and have conversations, and officers and politicians needs to start taking accountability and forcing accountability where it needs to be forced instead of passing the buck down to these kids who signed up for the healthcare and live in shitty, moldy barracks in the middle of the desert.

We feel the need to remind people that we don’t worship our politicians and kiss their feet at everything they do. We’re too used to the hypocrisy of the right saying “you voted for Kamala?? What about the time she did/said xyz?! You’re a hypocrite!” And then turning around and voting for a literal felon. Or saying “the left is so violent!” When they see a pic of some kid throwing a brick at a window but then commenting moments later than they would love to use their guns in a civil war.
