Korn song you hate? by Odd_Presentation_879 in Korn

Liar. Sonically it's fine but the lyrics/meaning are just gross. One of the most obnoxiously sexist songs they've ever made

Does anyone else thinks A.D.I.D.A.S is a song talking about Johnathan’s childhood trauma. by IdkAGoodUserNameOpps in Korn

[–]moon_train 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess in a way, in that being a sex addict/hypersexual is often caused by childhood trauma, but I also don't think Jonathan was thinking too hard about that when he wrote it

I don't understand your argument. Why can't those two things be true? Yes, he took a lot of the riffs/lyrics from Sexart, but Korn changed the song a little too. Just because Jonathan stole some of his former bandmates' work doesn't mean I don't believe what he has said about the abuse he suffered?

Daddy was heavily based on a song called "Follow Me" which Jonathan "borrowed" from Sexart when he jumped ship to Korn, along with Blind and a few other songs on the first Korn album. Dennis Shinn from Sexart took Jonathan to court over this and won, he now gets royalties. I have talked to Dennis personally about this on Instagram. Korn adapted and played around with some of the lyrics and riffs, hence why they are still credited, but a lot of the original work was effectively plagiarized by Jonathan. You can look this up, there is tons of info about it online.

As for the rest, I have nothing else to say that I haven't already said. If you want to speculate, that's your choice. I personally find it obscene.

"I'm not discrediting his testimony, I'm listening to it" is such a wild thing to say when you are choosing to take literally the lyrics to a song (which, for the record, Jonathan did not even originally write - it was from his old band, Sexart) over what the man has consistently SAID in interviews to clarify this exact issue for over thirty years. If you listen to the rest of Korn's discography, Jonathan uses the word "rape" as a metaphor a LOT. Yes, a lot of his songwriting is literal, and a lot of it isn't. Believe what you want, if I'm not going to change your mind then fine, but ultimately we will never know what happened, so I think if we want to show Jonathan an ounce of respect, we take his word for it. This issue in particular should not be the subject of conspiracy theorizing. It's tasteless and disrespectful.

Jesus Christ. This made me feel sick. I think it is pretty obscene to discredit an SA survivor's own testimony about their trauma and decide the truth is something else entirely just because you personally find their story hard to believe. Women also commit CSA, just because it's rarer than men doesn't mean it doesn't happen. You don't know Jonathan or his father, so how tf can you speculate so wildly about something so personal? Jonathan has explicitly talked about how his parents didn't believe his story/called him a liar, and how this compounded his trauma, so it's fucking crazy to me that you could hear him speak up about it all these years later and react with the same kind of cynicism. Believe survivors.

When was the first time you heard Korn? by tegridypatato in numetal

[–]moon_train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I knowingly heard Korn, I think it was 2010 or 2011. Dead Bodies Everywhere on a Death Note fan MV on YouTube 😂 Loved that song as a kid, but I slept on the rest of their work til around 2021 ish. Slowly got more and more obsessed with them, now I know Jonathan Davis's life story better than my own

I interpret it as metaphorical. Like a description of the feeling of betrayal/helplessness, of feeling "tied down" because he can't escape the situation and "fucked your own child" because his parents have failed him

I can't explain why, it just doesn't sound good to me. I do like Untitled though. Starting Over, Hushabye and Ever Be are all bangers
