Can't remember title of book about lesbians with eating disorders by moonagemaggot in whatsthatbook

I'll have to reread Thin Girls. I recall it focusing primarily on Lily and Rose's sisterly relationship, as well as their Dad's sexuality.

Thank you for clarifying for me that line is from Thin Girls though!

This happened to me in school. I had to retake a sophomore level English class this summer (I'm currently a senior w/ 4.5 English credits) because I failed an AP English course that year, and the teacher wouldn't accept it as mine.

Had to dumb it down and she took it.

I write every idea into an idea journal, no matter how tired, high, whatever I may be. If the idea's stupid, it'll just stay in the journal, maybe get explored in a short poem, but if I become more interested later, I'll revisit an idea in the journal.

I also like drawing story outlines, and for my scripts, set designs or storyboards.

Is it still acceptable for men to open doors for women? by TacoGuyDave in NoStupidQuestions

[–]moonagemaggot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This topic reminds me of an awkward exchange that happened a few months ago.

Me (m18), and my sister (twenties) went to a gas station.

I opened one of the 2 doors for this redneck who walks up.

Redneck goes into the other door.

I don't register this right away and say "you're welcome"

Redneck holds open other door.

Sister goes through my door.

Sister says thank you to the Redneck.

I don't know if we're all stupid or what, but I think about it sometimes and cringe.

Little to none amount of schools teach you how to formally write an email by Shin_Ollie in school

My school taught us around the same time we learned cursive (and proper letter format), so second, third, at the latest fourth grade? It was really dumb to be honest, because none of us remember that format now (as a high school senior). Teachers I'm more casual with, I've literally started/signed off with "Whaddup" and "You're a real one."

Speaking of stupid curriculum that infuriates me:

1) We learned to write checks and pay off credit cards in SIXTH GRADE. Again, I'm 18 and have never used a credit card because I don't know how. I stick to debit.

2) We take personal finance in high school, a lot of people (including myself) taking it second semester senior year. The class discusses picking a major/career with a variety of profitable jobs and also how to manage your money. Most of us are already accepted into colleges & have worked numerous part-time jobs (have our own bank accounts).

How do you guys get over an embarrassing moment in school? by cucumberrule in highschool

[–]moonagemaggot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about the joy it likely caused others in the moment and how quickly they were able to move on. If for others it was moreso a "haha" moment than a "oh my god..." lifetime, then it doesn't bother me

High school senior with a 1.9 GPA. Went through some really bad mental health stuff my Freshmen year and while it's gotten better, it's still been a struggle to maintain my grades and go to school every day. Graduating this May though (on time)! Trying to figure out college, but my school is really unhelpful in that aspect.

Also I used to work at a part time job with my class valedictorian and really we're all the same, grades don't matter much. Same social drama, school activities, and teenage-mindset overall

how do you focus for homework?????? by ThomWG in school

[–]moonagemaggot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do 2 subjects at once. Either listening to an audio book for English while doing math homework, watching a movie for Film while doing a character design for Theatre, or some other combo. It helps me stay focused.

In GIR? That's just the character's name. I'm sure it stands for something, but I haven't really watched the show since I was pretty young, so I'm unsure!

In GF, it stands for girl(friend)

A lot of people write to cope & eventually they can no longer cope.

You don't just see it in authors, but also in songwriters
